Bob Marley: One Love (2024)
Capturing
Bob Marley was full of soul, he sent his message to people through music and his good will.
Heart of a lion and starred fear in the eyes and always tried to do good for his people and the world
If anyone deserves a movie making about them then Bob does.
I wasn't expecting much from this movie but I found it to be a really emotional story that captured the man and his struggles, journey and striving for a better world .
The only criticism I have is that the Jamaican accent was not tamed down and I struggled to understand in parts.
Some good songs played throughout and was glad to see simmer down included .
Must see for any Marley fan.
A Man Called Otto (2022)
Refreshingly different
This movie is the only movie I can remember seeing that made me both laugh and cry all the same time , quite remarkable how emotive this story is.
Tom Hank's as always smashes the part and makes the character Otto come to life.
Ottos story will be relatable to
Many who see this and I'm sure it will give people who are lost some hope .
Believable and relatable this story grips you from the start.
It leaves you thinking about your role in life and how when times get bad, there is always more to live for,, you sometimes just need to look a bit harder .
I really enjoyed it and think it will be enjoyed by many.
No Time to Die (2021)
Masterpiece
Been to see this twice and could easily go again.
Powerful emotional storyline with unbelievable locations, special effects and action scenes.
It's funny how sometimes we don't appreciate things until it's the end.
Took my Mam to see it and she was brought up watching Connery as bond
My Mam turned to me at the end and said "I never thought I would say these words but he's better than Connery.
Must be seen on the big screen to capture the beautiful cinematography and fast paced storyline.
Rise of the Footsoldier: Origins (2021)
Good Solid movie
Massive fan of the original ROTFS movie and the whole story around it, so was really excited to see this on the big screen.
I didn't have high expectations because I haven't been impressed with some of the follow up movies, but I must say it did pack a punch and left me wanting to go see it again because that much happens in it you feel like you have maybe missed something.
The acting was solid from the whole cast and Vinnie Jones played a great part, nothing like the real character BOM but never the less he played a good part and his performance was very good.
I would have liked to have seen some deeper dimensions to Tony's personality and story and I don't think the last few movies have been very fare on his memory playing him as a down and out and joker.
From what I know, Tony was a successful business man and had good sides to his character he had more to him than these movies portray from the years of research I have done but hopefully this will come out some more next time and it's only my personal thoughts.
I would like to see this in the next one where he goes through the journey of friendship with Carlton.
Overall though - good soundtrack, funny scenes, good acting and a good solid story line that keeps you interested from opening to closing.
I would highly recommend that people who have watched the original go see this.
I will definitely be revisiting this one.
Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing (2018)
Warms the heart
Love this show, it's easy watching and just does something for me that other shows don't, sort of warms the cockles like a good port .
Two old friends coming back together to spend quality time in the greatest countryside in the world, fishing, cooking and having a good old laugh .
Makes me want to take up fishing again and reminds me why I fell in love with the hobby and all that's good about the freedom of fishing
Joker (2019)
Brilliant Insight into mental health stigma
Very challenging movie to watch.
Shocking ,disturbing and brilliant are all ways to describe Joker .
Phoenix will get nominated for an Oscar for this performance.
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
Just didn't feel right
The last episode in what has been an amazing journey just didn't feel right .
It was almost like watching a comedy version that was put together as a piss take .
What a great shame and wasted opportunity .
I feel this show was on the road to been the best of tv show but I guess the Wire has won its 1st place price back .
The Theory of Everything (2014)
Utter Brilliance, sadness and inspirational storytelling at it best
WOW, I went to see this film tonight, along with my wife, it was 2nd choice to another movie showing at the same cinema, how glad i am that my wife has the last say so. It is an astounding story, this man and his wife went through such a journey together and beat the struggles together. I have been ignorant of Professor Hawking up until this point but will certainly research his work after seeing this movie. This movie tells the story of Stephen Hawkings life up until the present day and does it with perfection, it is a must see, the acting is top notch throughout and is surely to get Oscar nominations. Go see this amazing story on the big screen, NOW>
'71 (2014)
Top class movie
This movie stars the powerful but man of few words actor Jack o Connor (starred Up ) its backdrop is Northern Ireland 1971 in the dawn of the troubles , it tells the story of a naive young soldier threw in the midst of warfare and how he fights to survive through the bloody unforgiving streets of Belfast. I personally , have never took the time to look into the history of The Northern Ireland troubles much, call it ignorance or whatever you want . However this film really does make one wonder what the Hell went on over there and what was it all for? it has been slowly forgotten by many people but many men women and Children who did live through it would never be so lucky to forget . This movie doesn't get caught up in any of the politics nor does it take a side, it mearly uses the chaos as a scence and boy does it work. Must see, in my top 10 of 2014. (easy)
Fargo (2014)
Awesone
Awesome, just awesome. Never seen the Movie but intend to watch it after just switching off the TV to this, i can honestly say Billy Bob Thornton character in this must be the scariest character i have ever seen on TV. He gives me the spokes especially in the final scene Season 1, episode 10.
Anyway watch this when your off work one day pretending to be ill. Its a great 10 hours of TV, in fact, no its not a TV show but more a 10 hour movie. Fantastic. Only one fault and that was after ep 5 the story line seems to stall , it soon picks up again and gives you one more go off the roller coaster.
Calvary (2014)
Powerful
I thought this was an excellent movie, have doubts that viewers from other countries other than the United kingdom will get the dialect in it. Thought the acting was superb and the directing was spot on.
It really rings home with me how this Priest feels , the job i do although not religious is somewhat similar and often the negatives out-way the positives to the point of nearly loosing hope in mankind. Overall i would say go watch this, it may well be one of the best movies of the year. I have seen this advertised so many times and didn't fancy it until today when a friend recommended it. Didn't like In Bruges so maybe that put me off this , however i am sat here writing a review so that means i was really disappointed or loved it and i can say the latter is the winner.
Jersey Boys (2014)
Good but not as good as i had hoped
The story of Frankie Villi and the four seasons is nothing but extraordinary tale that is sad, happy, emotional, funny and full of great music, however i feel Clint missed the magic here , when making this and its a shame because a little more work and it could have been the hit of 2014 rather than, "just another OK movie". It may well do better on DVD but i very much doubt it, the way things are with DVD sales these days. The main character was played by John Lloyd Young who wasn't to bad but wasn't to good either, he came across as a pitiful man and didn't have the vocals to make you go cold like the real Frankie and the amazing Ryan Molloy who played the part for 6 years in London England's version on Broadway, his vocals should have been used because some of vocals where not good, Ryan molloy was i believe told that Clint Eastwood may use him for vocals only but it never came about. Vincent Piazza played a good part in the role of Tommy devito. I enjoyed it but like i say it just missed something. I hope this movie is made again because i think it could work if done better, or maybe its just one of them strange things about Broadway that because its so good it cant be matched or beaten on the big screen, please go out and watch it , but if you get the choice go see the Broadway one first.
The Iceman (2012)
Great watch
Great watch: Another fine performance by the boardwalk empire actor,"Michael Shannon. This guy really is brilliant at playing these roles.
I have seen the real Iceman interviews and i can see the work Michael Shannon has put into getting this right, very scary character. I, for some reason , couldn't help feel sorry for Richards character, which is weird because he was a cold blooded killer, however i think he had been pushed around and just was damaged goods because of his abuse If you get to see this then get ready for a great movie and remember " you know what they say"? , that's what they say.
Bonded by Blood (2010)
bonded by blood is terrible
I am so disappointed just travelled 65 miles to see this garbage. The movie has some good actors in it yet none of them show a ounce of any of they true talent. The story is poorly put together and doesn't really follow a theme or character from start to finish. The main focus is sniffing drugs and swearing and believe me there had a good true story to work on,Tammer Hussein who is a good actor when he puts it on was crap as pat Tate,Craig fairbrass makes him look like harry potter. This film makes you cringe at nearly every scene.
Overall not worth a 2nd thought. When will someone pull there finger out and give us another ROTFS or the business type film.
To be truthful i think never......
