Dead West (2010)
A lot better than anyone gives credit
I've read tons of reviews that were way off the mark, but I haven't commented. But ONE review for this movie? 1 star??? I have to doubt that the fifty or so that rated it never saw it.
The story and script are good, coherent and have character development. The acting is fine, with no "except for" retraction. The only stereotype was the lead's ex-wife. The production values are very high, and the cinematography rocks. Truly beautiful. Gorgeous Southern AZ vistas.
It's a tourist western set which is an actual tourist/studio, Old Tucson Studios, outside of Tucson. MANY westerns TV and movies were filmed there, so it would be a natural for this type of movie. This isn't a nostalgia movie, or a true western, vampire, horror movie. It tries to be more and in my estimation, it succeeds. Loved the many Day of the Dead elements in it. True to the setting and times.
So much of DEAD WEST is dead on southwest, vampire, horror, except for the **********SPOILER******** location of the Lost Dutchman mine. Whoever didn't like this movie is probably undead all ready.
