Walk the Line (2005)
Two Things Wrong With This Movie
OK, I had two problems with this movie. It is an EXCELLENT movie, but, when Johny Cash did his concert at Folsom Prison, it was not with a bass so loud that it shook the walls. One good thing about the music of the 60's, was, the bass was not overpowering. The other thing wrong with this movie, was that it was not long enough. But, in order to do a full story of Johny Cash, It would probably have to be a 10 hour movie. So, I guess they did as much as they could, considering the time factor they had. Joaquin Phoenix was EXCELLENT as Johnny Cash. He looked like Johnny Cash, and ALMOST sounded like him. Reese Witherspoon almost had the voice down, as June Carter, but, I don't think she looked much like her. Still, she gave a wonderful performance. All in all, I'd give the movie a 9 out of 10 I guess.
The Friendly Giant (1958)
Ahhh...The Memories
I had been thinking lately about old children's TV programs. When I moved to Los Angeles in 1964, I clicked around the TV dial and was amazed at all the channels I could watch. (My family had moved there from West Virgina, where we only received 2 channels; In Los Angeles, we received at least 12 channels, and this was long before cable TV) I came to channel 28, which was, and still is, a PBS station. There I found "The Friendly Giant" and I was enamored with it. Yea, it was for "little kids" and I was 12 at the time, but it still grabbed my attention. I especially remember Gerome the Giraffe, and later, how Geoffrey the Giraffe of "Toys R Us" reminded me of Gerome, and wondered if Gerome was an influence for Geoffrey.
Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial by Fire (2005)
More like Power Rangers rather than Texas Rangers
I am a big fan of Chuck Norris, as well as a fan of his show, Walker, Texas Ranger. This new movie has a lot of action, however, it certainly doesn't need the special effects. I believe these effects ruined the movie, and made it more like a Saturday morning kids action series. Also, Ranger Trivette is missing from this movie, even tho the IMDb list him in the cast credits. 3-D transparent graphics of Dallas; clouds moving in fast forward motion; bullets fired in stop motion animation; glass breaking in the same way, seems to be stop motion animation; GIVE ME A BREAK !!!! Then to top it off, the ending leaves us with a question..... Is Alex dead? How could they end this movie like this, when the one who shot her, is also dead? Where could it lead? Only one answer. She is dead. Or will there be a sequel? If so, I do hope they do not use CGI effects in it. Leave that for the kids.
O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)
Excellent Movie
I saw this when it was released at the theaters. It was excellent on the big screen. When it came out on video tape, I bought it. But I had noticed some of the footage had been left out. I am wondering why. At one point in the movie, Everette tells his wife, that he is one of the Soggy Bottom Boys, and she does't believe him. I remember that she said, "You are not one of the Soggy Bottom Boys", and don't go telling our girls that you were" or something to that effect. Because this was cut out, I wanted the DVD version, and my son bought it for me. Well, it was cut out of the DVD version also. Does anyone know why? Anyway, near the end of the movie, as the Soggy Bottom Boys are on stage singing, Everette's wife, drops her jaw open in disbelief, as if she were thinking, "He was telling me the truth!" So, what happened to the part where he told her that he in the group? Thanks
Tempting Fate (1998)
"Sliiiders"
So, this movie came out in 1998. I don't know how I missed it then. I saw it on Lifetime Movies Network in July 04, and really enjoyed it. But, for some reason, at every commercial break, I was expecting to hear a whispering voice say, "Sliiiders". Wow ! Where was Wade, Remmy, Professor, and Quinn?
I don't care who is in the story. I want more movies like this. Many commenters compare this movie to the Twilight Zone; But, I say it was a clone of Sliders. Still wonderful tho. I only wish I knew when it will be aired again so I can tape it. I was disappointed that Matt didn't make it "home", but, I was happy to see he found new friends in the Sierras. And since Matt was given an option of a lobotomy or banishment to the Sierras, I wonder why they didn't offer the same to Ellen Moretti. Oh yes, someone mentioned the spin from Shirley Jackson's The Lottery" A wonderful story. But, then, "Sliders" had an episode based on that story as well, where Wade "won" that Lottery. And this movie was similar in many respects.
