Lonely Planet (1994)
Wonderful Travel, Food, Exotic Settings.......But the overbearing music!
I love to learn about places I've never been and more likely won't be able to see. The blend of exotic places, touring, shopping for special items to cook wonderful dishes. It can't go wrong....right? Well, my only complaint about this wonderful program is the constant loud music! Please don't get me wrong. I love the music they play. BUT...they play it constantly while the chefs are preparing the dishes and discussing what they're doing. Today's program was like others, a lovely program that I couldn't hear because of the music. How about playing it for the beginning introduction and at the end when the dishes are complete. It may be "trendy" to show hyped up guys buying cheap t-shirts in a market, but geez....this isn't what I expect from a Globe Trekker. I also expect a program that I can hear.
Fertile Ground (2011)
Infertile Movie that only gives birth to Boredom!
Wow. Didn't the director encourage this actress to take a shower before showing up on the set? In a nutshell: An unshowered boring-as-hell woman walks around the house seeing things. She is obviously on and off her Thorazine because sometimes she seems sane to the viewers of this (cough) movie and sometimes she doesn't. For the most part it doesn't matter because the movie plods along with the speed of a Turtle on tranquilizers.
No spoiler alert necessary. The entire movie was spoiled by cheapo filming that looked like it was done with an old camera with videotape still in it. The actors (choke), as stated previously, all looked and acted like they were on a 7 day drunk and didn't shower. They did show up to film this movie. Big mistake.
Tosh.0 (2009)
Example of Why Comedy Central is Tanking
This guy is so BORING and ANNOYING I wanted to scream! So many other comediennes have done what he attempts to do, but with some kind of flair. "Tosh" never says anything that can get a mild chuckle. I just sat in front of the TV and wondered how HE could get a show, any show, on a network.
He's every aggravating neighbor, co-worker, (you name it) that has ever made it into your life. The kind of guy you can't get to shut up even if you maced him because he's his own fan. Good for him that he uses a laugh track. This is one guy who needs it desperately. Sadly, it'll wear out real fast.
The computer angle isn't enough to give him a comedic niche. Especially when he's so darned dull.
Marple: Why Didn't They Ask Evans? (2009)
Good Mystery with Newcomer, Julia McKenzie
I'm a younger viewer and haven't read the books, so I have no conclusions to make about the story.
That said, I do enjoy British mysteries and this one suits me fine. There is the visual beauty of England, very good acting, and a decent if somewhat confusing story. The young couple are funny and engaging. Miss Marple is neither a fussy old biddy nor a cutesy clown. She's kind and down to earth. Yes, the story takes many twists and turns, with more "adult" themes than I've seen in older Marple movies. I wouldn't let kids watch, for sure. I was surprised to find out at the end about "Evans," and exactly why the question was asked. It's rare for me to be able to see a mystery that I can't figure out in the first 15 minutes. That's why I prefer British ones.
I watched all of these Miss Marple episodes and thought they were all very good. I am enjoying this new season with Julia McKenzie. She is a very different from Geraldine McEwan who was also very good.
