Everything Is Illuminated (2005)
Really great movie
This movie is wonderful!
I read the very odd, yet enjoyable book and was really excited about the movie coming out.
I was not disappointed!
The script is funny and unique, the cinematography is beautifully done, the score is PERFECT, and the acting is also really spectacular.
This is a touching, strange, and lovely film. It's not creepy strange, or "in your face" strange. Just sorta strange in the quirky way that most people are strange.
I highly recommend this film for people who want to see something new, fun, well put together, and serious all the same.
Velvet Goldmine (1998)
Beautifully crazy
I love this movie because it is daring in content, partly non-fiction and partly fiction, delves into characters that would seem small or supporting, and it makes me want to wear glitter and find my sexy sassy side. Granted it will not be everyone's cup of tea, granted it's strange and dramatic, and granted it is sometimes assaulting to our senses. However, the cinematography is beautiful and memorable, the costumes are fantastic!, some of the acting is incredible, and the directing makes you feel like a stranger as well as an insider in the spectacular world of glam rock. It's worth watching just for the experience, even if you end up hating it. The first time I watched it I was thinking "Okay, too much hype and too little point." Isn't that sorta what glam rock's about though? Not entirely, obviously, but to some extent...yes. And the movie does start somewhere and end somewhere else. Several characters change drastically in the course of this film. DO NOT watch this film if you don't like films with homosexuality, drugs, nudity, or anything else interesting like that. DO watch it if you are interested in glam rock and interested in watching a film that is anything but conventional.
The Serpent's Kiss (1997)
Strange...
I found this movie to be very strange, and indeed it is! The first time I watched this movie I thought to myself "What the heck is going on here!" I completely missed the point of the movie the first time I saw it. Fortunately, I was already acquainted with some of Ewan M.'s work, and thought that surely Mr. Mcgregor would have more sense than to make a pointless movie. Thankfully I was right. I would advise anyone who doesn't understand this movie, or who has only seen it once, to watch it again. There is a deeper meaning. All of the actors and actresses were fabulous in this movie! Although the movie could have served just as well as a short feature, I'm glad that it is longer so that I can enjoy the chemistry between the cast members longer.
Nightwatch (1997)
I will never...
I will never hear the song "This Ol'Man" the same way again.
Pretty good movie. Ladies should rent this on girl's night out so they can scream and swoon.
Yay Ewan Mcgregor.
Ladyhawke (1985)
Could be such an awesome movie and is...but...
I agree with the other person who commented on this movie in that the music was no less than terribly terribly wrong. I also feel that
this movie has a certain allure to it,so that even though it feels low budget when you watch it, you are still entertained. Although Matthew Broderick's accent here is inconsistent, he is the most entertaining character in the movie. His habit of talking to himself and "Lord..." is great. Michelle Pfeiffer is beautiful & I love the drunken monk. It may have just been my love for Matthew Broderick, but I kept thinking "Okay okay yeah they're sorrowful lovers, whatever, where is Mouse???!" Maybe his character just seemed like the only one besides the monk, with any depth of character that didn't feel extremely forced. Oh well. Could be a better movie, but still amusing. If anything, it is worth seeing Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Broderick in something a little crazy. Yay '80's!!
