Killer Looks (2018)
Nice retro detective story with a 90's vibe
Great 90's type detective story with some laughs. The lead girl was funny as the wise cracking Alex. The detective was good in a Billy Bob Thornton/Walter Matthau kind of way. The supporting characters all had motives so it made it a really interesting "who done it".
Match.con (2016)
John Waters would love this.
I saw this at the IFS Film Festival. The audience was cracking up. It's over the top like a Russ Meyer or John Waters film. Tammy dumps her boyfriend and needs to find a new one. Her 80 yr old cougar mom gives her advice. And has disastrous dates where everyone exaggerates or just lies about themselves, including Tammy. Will she find love? It's on youtube so check it out.
The Lone Road (2020)
Great for what it is.
It's no budget movie so I grade them on a curve. It's a trapped in a small town movie like "Breakdown" and "The Hills Have Eyes" except the main bad guy is upper-class. There are a few local yokels though like the Nub and the extra creepy dad. He made my mom's skin crawl. The bad guy's wife is straight out of a John Waters or Russ Meyer movie. She is creepy and hilarious at times. The female leads are like a younger version of "Thelma and Louise". They're in trouble and try to runaway but can't so they must face their fears to survive. There's some surprises along the way too. If you enjoy low-budget movies then you should check this out.
Asphalt Angels (2014)
Girls, Guns, and Switchblades!!!
It's an homage to exploitation and made-for-TV movies from the 70's & 80's like Switchblade Sisters and Born Innocent. If this were made back then it would've certainly had Rainbeaux Smith in it. There were some nice references to those movies. It's got the all-girl gang, the Asphalt Angels and their rival gang, Cookie's Cutters. It also has the female prison scenes with some references to the Japanese movies starring Meiko Kaji. It also has the evil lesbian prison guard in it. It was a nice throwback to some of those grind-house movies from that era. The production values aren't the best but neither were those movies. They weren't for everybody but if you like them, you'll probably like this.
