Absolutely terrible

Seriously bad dialogue with really bad acting.

Save yourself the trouble and go and watch paint dry instead.

God Save Me !!!

The UK version was a great piece of television.

This American incarnation, as usual, relies mostly on overpowering background music and some of the cheesiest scripts that man can create.

There shouldn't be any need to rely on expensive post-production if a series is actually good in the first place. All that the expensive post-production does is to cover the flaws of the original product.

A massive thumbs-down from this discerning viewer is about as good as this review gets.

Try to get it better next time America!

The Smoking Room (2004–2005)

The best (and driest) comedy in the UK in the last decade
22 November 2009
It's not often that i find myself almost pi**ing myself when watching a very dry comedy such as this, but "The Smoking Room" gets me laughing my ass off every time (sorry for the Americanisms).

As a sit-com, with a very narrow set of locations (i.e. the smoking room) it can only ever rely on the characters and the script, no big budgets for explosions, morphing into other creatures, blood or CGI in this show :) It does very well with what it has.

Like a Leprechaun that manages to get to the pot of gold and becomes the CEO of a multi-national conglomerate, "The Smoking Room" achieves everything that you want from a comedy. Good characters, a great script and amazing acting that makes the script and the characters come to life.

Without the characters, script and actors to make it all possible, "The Smoking Room" would merely be a poor attempt at comedy, but when they all come together, as they do in this TV series, comedy genius is created.

The Vampire Diaries (2009–2017)
Music

The series could be good. It could even be amazing. But my problem with it is the fact that they do the typical American thing of having lots of popular songs overlayed onto the top of the episodes from start to finish when the episode would stand out so much more if the "music" was removed.

We don't need to here the latest song from James Blunt while we are watching a series about vampires. I'm not watching MTV. It's just not necessary, and it's the main reason why i don't watch a lot of series which could be good otherwise.

America ruins it again...
