Good family fun
17 July 2016
Lighten up people! I'm writing this review just to counter all the 1 star votes. It wasn't as good as the original but it was still a good popcorn flick. They aren't trying to win academy awards for goodness sakes.

This movie was exactly what a summer movie should be. It was light, funny, and short enough. It didn't take itself too serious.

The actors, IMO, did a very good job as well. They gave our entire audience quite a few chuckles. Enjoyed the cameos as well.

The only knock I can come up with is the horrible new Ghostbusters song. Sometimes they should just leave well enough alone.

Nothing Special
30 July 2014
I saw this movie last night with some friends. I must admit the first 30 minutes of the film were simply fantastic. The pace and promise showed initially had us all very involved in the film and excited to where the film would take us. Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman were exceptional for this opening act.

The reason I gave it a 6 was pacing. The story proceeds much too quickly in the middle 3rd and Scarlett Johansson become almost robotic. The loss of human qualities proceeds much too quickly. This caused me and my group to care very little about her fate. Morgan Freeman was noticeably absent during this portion and his exceptional acting ability was sorely missed.

The final 3rd of the movie was simply OK. Some will like the ending while other will abhor it. I will not give any spoilers but my opinion is that the writers and directors tried to be too clever and failed to deliver an ending worthy of the cast.

Red Dawn - Lighten Up People
21 November 2012
This remake pales in comparison to the original Red Dwn to be sure. That said, people on this site need to lighten up! It is still a fun flick.

The movie contained the perfect amount of cheesy dialogue and unbelievable scenarios to make for a perfect 95 minutes. Grab a tub of popcorn and sit back and enjoy. The cast provides enough eye candy for both the male & female movie viewer as well. Speaking of the cast, Josh, from Drake & Josh, is worth the price of admission alone. He is simply so unbelievable as a hero it makes for great cinema.

Honestly, the rest of the cast is good, not great. The plot is not good but really makes up for is with action scenes and a great patriotic feel at the end.

Go USA & Go Wolverines!

Better than the scores show
21 January 2010
Wow, people need to get a grip when they review a kids film! Sure the premise has been used before & sure the bad guys are cheesy. They are supposed to be.

This movie has OK action, corny dialogue, and an absolutely wonderful message. Not every movie has to win awards to be great. Some movies are simply great because you get to spend time with your kids & the flick has a redeeming message.

This movie has no sex, no language, and merely comedic violence. What a refreshing idea! I loved that my 13 year old boy & 10 year old daughter enjoyed it & both got the message that family is who loves you not whose blood runs in you.

I would highly recommend this movie to anyone with children or to anyone who is sick of Hollywood "morals" being forced down our throats. A very family friendly movie.

Come with a good attitude. Enjoy the popcorn & a coke. Watch a decent flick & enjoy time with your family.

Great popcorn flick
13 November 2009
Why do so many people feel like a movie has to be a life changing event? This movie is a great way to spend 1 1/2 hours. The acting is very good. The "real" vs acting element is well done. Milla does a wonderful job drawing in the audience. The story is fun & the concept is entertaining.

Some movies are done just to provide entertainment. Nothing more, nothing less. This is one of those films.

Go with a good attitude and enjoy. There are no life lessons to learn. There is no great revelation. Just go for fun.

Enjoy!

8.6 - Really?
9 October 2009
How in the world could this get 8.6 out of 10.0 from so many people? This movie was uneventful and rather depressing.

The story of a man whose life is filled with tragedy and becomes a grouch does not do much for me.

The boy with a father who is never around. Wow, just what I want my kids to see.

Maybe I missed the point of the movie. That said, even my kids age 10 & 12 thought it was boring. We went with 2 other kids who said it was OK but nothing special. I would give the visual high marks but the story is lacking IMO.

Why?
31 August 2009
Why in the world would Rob Zombie or a movie studio allow this to be released? Mr. Zombie took a terrific horror franchise and has completely made a mockery of it.

This film was perhaps the worst horror/slasher flick I have ever paid to see. Rob Zombie's liberal interpretation made me want to leave 10 minutes into the show. I checked my watch every 5-10 minutes praying for the credits to roll.

I have a true love for horror movies & see them on opening day without fail. That said, I will never spend another dime on a Rob Zombie movie. Between the F-bomb & his wife's horrible acting it was more than I could take.

I registered for IMDb just to lower the score of this horrible movie!
