Fantasia (1940)
Not all that great, good for classical music fans only
I saw Fantasia for the first time when it was re-released in theatres while I was in my 20's. I was excited to see it after hearing so much about it over the years.
The animation was good, and the clssical score was fine, but since I am a minor classical music fan it got really boring really fast. You gotta give me SOME kind of action! The Sorcerer's Apprentice scene was great, but that is the only praise I can give it.
When the screen went dark and the lights came up I was happy it was finally over, then the narrator came on informing my wife and I that it was merely time for intermission. We quickly stepped to the exit and to this day remains the only film we ever walked out on.
Superman (1979)
Interesting concept, tough on Atari 2600
The Superman legend continues in this game where you fly around as Superman trying to catch Lex Luthor and his gang of thugs. It had interesting action (flying, x-ray vision, Kryptonite) but was very limited by Atari's available memory, therefore it was not graphically attractive.
This was was not your typical video game for a few reasons:
1) It was timed. The better you got at it, the LESS time it took you to play it. This made it more attractive to people that didn't want to spend hours to improve their high scores. It actually made it more sociable with friends since you could switch off every ten minutes or so.
2) It was a non-violent crime game. Probably the last of it's breed in this regard. You weren't shooting someone or something, you were just trying to round up the bad guys as fast as you can.
The one thing I hated (as a 12 or 13 year old boy) was the fact that if Superman was stricken by kryptonite, he had to WALK around aimlessly until he kissed Lois Lane.
The Fool of the World and the Flying Ship (1991)
Diamond in the rough
I saw this when it came out in the early '90's and was very impressed by the animation, voices and story. The kids will like the adventure while adults will appreciate the way each character is uniquely portrayed. And it even teaches the kids about greed and friendship.
Buffalo '66 (1998)
Not all that great
This movie was okay, but after reading the descriptions from other viewers I was expecting better. It kept my interest throughout, but I had a tough time caring about how the whole thing turned out. Christina Ricci was great (as always) but overall it deserved a 66 out of 100.
