This was such an emotional and revealing episode. It shows how even when for his kids and wife, he was always the best dad and husband, he had a lot of his own issues with his parents and brother. You can tell how affected he was by leaving Nicky and his mom behind. Never visiting her definitely hit him hard after her passing. It's nice seeing how she was able to overcome the tough life they had before, but as Jack says, the small details are always there. It was also very interesting to see, even when you can tell he is mad and frustrated, how Jack doesn't breaks down and cries until his very last scene in this episode.
This episode was unbelievably touching, well written and paced, one of those gems that this show has given us throughout the years, one of the best in its entire run, in my opinion.
As little side note, I will always believe Jack deserved more time, more protagonism, like the entire show could be only about him haha. But I do understand the whole family protagonist. I just love hus character so much.
