Earth from Above (2006–2011)

Highly informative documentary-series.

Thanks to Netflix for making this magnificent TV-series available to a broader audience. Especially since this series deserves more recognition around the world. Yann Arthus-Bertrand is one the most important environmentalists and film-makers of our time.

Beautiful photography, very informative and good narration. Interesting to watch for a greater understanding of the complexity of humans effects on planet earth. I already knew much about several of the themes, but found it especially interesting to learn more about the impacts of the flower and clothing industry, as well as the possibilities in algae fuel and bio-gas. Each episode consists of two parts, each part lasting for almost an hour, but they are all worth watching in my opinion.

It's interesting to see how more recent documentaries as Cowspiracy and Food Inc. have become famous as more and more people are concerned about environmental issues, but as we learn here all the facts has already been around for many years.

I would also recommend checking out Bertrand's other documentaries to learn more and experience more beautiful photography.

Wild China (2008)

Should be seen by every Chinese!

This is a very interesting documentary that should have been seen by so many more. Thanks to Netflix for making this available for a bigger audience.

If more Chinese people were shown this in school, maybe many of them would have different thoughts towards animals and wildlife in general.

After visiting China a couple of times last year, it was fascinating to see a different kind of China from what I experienced in my travels. Of all the episodes I enjoyed Shangri-La, Tibet and Beyond The Great Wall the most. The amazing animals in the rain forest in Shangri-La and the peaceful Tibetan lifestyle living in harmony with nature are some of the best highlights.

The last episode was also important in the mind of the future of China and in fact the world in general. Hopefully the mindset of Buddhism will continue, and not be overthrown by western/eastern influences and economic growth.

As for the use of shark fin soup, it's been a large decrease the last years, much thanks to campaigns using high profile stars as the popular basketball player Yao Ming. Luckily it seems to be a better understanding of animals and environmental problems by the younger generation.

So there is still hope… but China will play a big role for all life in the future, whether we like it or not!

Madagascar (2011)

A magical island!

Madagascar, another BBC wildlife classic, where David Attenborough returns to this island he visited over 50 years ago.

All three episodes tells different stories about all the incredible animals found on this island, highlighting all the different lemurs and chameleons. The bonus episode with Attenborough and the Giant Egg is also a little gem, telling the story of the extinct gigantic bird who ones lived here. Photography and time lapse filming are as always excellent, and especially the filming of the Possas in nighttime was very interesting to see.

The series also comes with an important message. Hopefully we'll be able to discover more of all the mysteries hidden on this island before we manage to destroy it.

In conclusion a highly interesting wildlife documentary about one of the most fascinating islands on earth with the greatest wildlife narrator in history!

Sagan om Skrotnisse och hans vänner (1985)

A Swedish classic!

I'm surprised to see no reviews of this magnificent Swedish mini series.

I remember seeing this back in the early 90s on Norwegian TV when I was a small kid, and it actually scared the hell out of me. It's pretty strange to think about now, but it was something with the strange atmosphere and the weird characters.. I probably just watched parts of the first two chapters back then, because I couldn't remember much from the desert part when I watched the whole series last month. The dialogue is excellent with funny hidden jokes throughout all episodes.

Sadly, I doubt people not familiar with this show from their childhood will appreciate it for what it is. The voice acting is actually really bad, but at the same time it makes the series even weirder and more creepy.

I'll always remember this series as an important part of my childhood. Pure nostalgia.

Journey (2012 Video Game)

The Perfect Journey

This is not only a game. This is pure art. Simply one of the most beautiful games I've ever played.

The relaxing atmosphere, the ambient music, the beautiful graphics, the smart gameplay.. everything is put together so perfectly. Actually a game you can combine doing yoga and meditation as well.

The gameplay is easy, and you can finish the game in about one hour and a half if you just play it straightforward and know how to do the puzzles. However there are much to explore and also hidden objects to find, and the best thing about this game is the joy you'll feel when floating around the desert not worrying about anything else in life.

One of the best things about this game is also the possibility to meet up with other random players characters, and you can choose to either ignore or co-operate with them. You'll not know who they are until you've finished the game. I appreciate the developers to concentrate on the gameplay instead of scorekeeping, statistics etc.

Floating through the temple with the sunlight in the background and flying up the mountains through the rivers and then walking into the white light in the end were some of the best moments!

If you've played Flow and Flower, you know what to expect from this game. I'm really looking forward to what 'thatgamecompany' comesup with next... it seems they can't fail!

I can't recommend this game enough.

The X-Files: Release (2002) Season 9, Episode 17

Fabulous!

One of my all time favourite X-Files episodes.

For all those who are complaining about season 9, I recommend them watching the four last episodes (William, Release, Sunshine Days & The Truth) - they are all some of the episodes I remember best from this brilliant TV series.

This episode is not about aliens and UFOs, it's a kind of mystery/detective episode - where Dogget is trying to find a serial killer. Everything in this episode is so well made, the acting is brilliant and the story is truly fascinating. And then it's the music...

.. simply one of the best classical scores I've heard. I get goosebumps whenever I hear the classical anthem in this episode.. it should probably have been played even more. It get's you into the right mood right from the very beginning to the last emotional scene..

I recommend Release highly, even for those who don't like X-Files as well.... Full score from me. A must see!
