Pitch Black (2000)
Oh dear
Another alien film without the need to "be afraid, be very afraid". nothing here that you couldn't see coming 10 minutes beforehand. It won't frighten you but it may interest you if the video store has little choice.
Once Upon a Time in the Midlands (2002)
Adequate
Saw this film on a flight back from Florida. Flight was horrendous and this movie took my mind off the flight adequately. Don't know if I'd have chosen this as a must see film previously but would recommend it now.
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Even Better
Having read The Lord of the Rings two or three times I was hugely sceptical about whether it's transfer to the screen would do it justice. When I saw The Fellowship of th Ring I was hugely impressed. The Two Towers, however, goes beyond the wildest imagination. Stunning is simply too weak a word. Go see this movie now or go curl up in bed and die.
Ground Control (1998)
Easy watching
Having just become a fan of "24" I bought this as a cheap DVD because of Kiefer Sutherland. Although the movie isn't an all time great it is certainly worth a watch. It won't tax you mentally but it isn't bad for a quiet night in with a beer and a pizza. Rating 7/10.
The Last Outlaw (1993)
Gritty Western
Not having seen a western for some years (except of course John Wayne)I found this to be a refreshing change from the white and black stetsons. Nicely gory but some of the best actors (John C. McGinley, Steve Buschemi) were woefully under used. Verdict a decent move that doesn't require a shed load of concentration. 7/10.
Zulu Dawn (1979)
Disappointing
After the amazing Zulu I expected this prequel to be more of the same. Sadly not. Although the location and battle scenes are stunning you never quite believe that it actually happened, unlike Rorkes Drift. A must own for Zulu war fanatics but that's about it.
Zulu (1964)
CLASSIC
Quite simply the finest film ever made. Okay historically it has quite a few errors for dramatic license purposes. ie Bromhead was actually as deaf as a post, but this must be the best war film of all time. This film gave me a life long interest in the Zulu war and I watch it every January.
