Bon Cop Bad Cop 2 (2017)
10x better than the first & I loved the first!
OMG OMG OMG OMG I would never believe that a sequel would be so much better. I admit that I am a French Canadian living in Montreal that speaks English more. The script in both films is so accurate that I hear it in every day life here. This film has really blown me away. Sorry (Canadian tradition) to the American authorities for the obvious stereotype. It does fit though. DO NOT SEE THIS FILM IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE FIRST.
Chappie (2015)
Should have been and could have been, but sadly it fails....
I thought I would condense a few of the more truthful comments made in the reviews.
The big problem with this movie is that none of the characters are likable -laughinggiraffe0 from Madison, WI
....so many flaws and plot holes in this film.... -kuuk3 from United Kingdom
Are you kidding me? -Jesus M Diaz from Spain
Disastrous. Juvenile. Insulting. -DJRMewzique from Canada
I can't describe how bad this movie is. -jonathanmark-77048 from United States
Lucky I saw this on half price day -Vim Fuego from Australia
Half the viewers walked out. -Barclays Bainc from Canada
....rampant with bad acting. MediaPanther from United States
I think you get the gist of it. This could have been a great movie if time was taken to craft a more believable story line for the concept.
As it is though, if you watch it as a Saturday morning cartoon series it comes across okay.
BTW, I have suggestion for an alternate name for this film: 'Number 2'-e.
The Drop (2014)
Watch it! NOT a disappointment at all.
I really get a kick out of reading most of the reviews here on IMDb.
A huge percentage of people actually think that their reviews are life changing and everyone will either watch or not watch a movie based on what they say.
Please ignore any review.
Just watch the film.
It was a totally unexpected story for me.
The acting is great. The story is great.
A totally refreshing surprise of a movie.
TREAT YOURSELF!
The Theory of Everything (2014)
Why the high rating?
I think this film is highly OVER-rated simply because it is (supposedly) the story of Stephen Hawking and his wife. Funny, I never knew he was married until this film came out.
I do not intend to take away from the brilliance of the man (I say that only because this is what I have been led to believe), but rather to reiterate the over dramatization that Hollywood thrives on with "true" stories. We all know that a very small percentage of the film could actually be fact.
Give the man his due. Don't make him into some kind of God.
Btw, he is funny on the Big Bang Theory.
Godzilla (2014)
Talk about a total lacklustre movie
I'm giving this a 1.
I remember much better times watching Saturday morning Godzilla vs "whatever" 30 minute programs that had much more substance than this.
And if you're in the same age group as me (56) then you will understand that those Saturday morning programs had basically no special effects at all. Heck, if I had seen a few strings holding up Godzilla here and there I might have given this movie a higher rating strictly for nostalgic reasons.
This movie is not even worth the "I have nothing to do for this evening" rating.
DO NOT bother. If you did, then I'm sorry.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)
Very lame
Obviously I watched this because I have seen the first. After not being too overly impressed in any way shape or form with the first I thought it was good enough to watch the second.
My mistake. Or better expressed, my bad.
This movie and it's ratings simply show me the powers of persuasion and advertising. Kind of like sheep that love to follow.
I did not entirely waste my time watching this however. It kept me amused enough until the wife got home.
Watch this if you don't want to be too bored waiting for a loved one to come home.
Btw, I couldn't give it a zero with the choices available.
I Declare War (2012)
I may have missed the entire point of this
I'll have to admit that going into this film my first thought was that maybe while playing an innocent game real weapons were found and it turned deadly. (In hindsight, too bad this wasn't the fact).
I really don't have too much to say about this at all. The children, I guess, did as well as they could and maybe even two or three of them will make a career out of acting. Only the future will tell. I do not remember any outstanding scenes at all.
I think though that I can honestly say that the two lead characters in this most definitely had some kind of psychological problems. It does become apparent in at least one of them and with the other one, as an armchair psychiatrist, I would find some kind of therapy for him. If this was real life, these two boys would definitely need professional help.
I just don't have any idea of what to take away from this story. I give it a 3 only because it really didn't insult my intelligence and the kids I think did their best with what they had.
The Lone Ranger (2013)
The Lone Ranger - Re-Invented (A real gem)
This has got to be one of the best films that I have seen in years. I'm 55 and this portrayal of the Lone Ranger was the furthest away from the original than I expected. I loved it.
DO NOT go into this film thinking that you will see some simple rehash of a very old character, but go into it as a 10 year old child that will be seeing the very first introduction of this character.
I added a spoiler reason for one simple fact. You will not hear the William Tell Overture (Lone Ranger Overture) until the end of the movie. I think it was brilliant for the director to place it here.
Think of it as a simple original campy Lone Ranger TV episode brought into the 21st century (especially the ending). Go see it and enjoy people!
AND of course, Tonto was great!
Knowing (2009)
Really not much to say except for DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME
I'm a Nicolas Cage fan by far.
Do not waste your time with this movie. Do not waste your time with this movie. Do not waste your time with this movie. Do not waste your time with this movie. Do not waste your time with this movie. Do not waste your time with this movie. Do not waste your time with this movie. Do not waste your time with this movie. Do not waste your time with this movie. Do not waste your time with this movie. Do not waste your time with this movie. Do not waste your time with this movie. Do not waste your time with this movie. Do not waste your time with this movie. Do not waste your time with this movie. Do not waste your time with this movie.
Enough said.
Death Race 3: Inferno (2013)
I promise to hunt & track everyone down that had anything to do with the filming of this movie and bring them to immediate justice..
I do not even know where to start.
This can only be "generously" classified as a major debacle.
I just don't know what to say................
I began to watch this with my usual suspension of reality, but it was only 5 minutes into it that I realized that I needed to get drunk real quick if I was going to last for another 20 minutes or so.
After 20 minutes I went into brain freeze and decided to keep it on for the background noise. I suffer from tinnitus.
If you want to put aside some time then give me a call. I have better home movies then this piece of c _ _ p!
Please do not see this travesty. If you do.....you were warned.
Django Unchained (2012)
My ratings on how the actors did with their roles.....
Main actors:
Jamie Foxx - nailed it! 10; Christoph Waltz - nailed it! 10; Leonardo DiCaprio - nailed it! 10; Kerry Washington - nailed it! 10;
Samuel L.Jackson - nailed it! 10
Supporting actors:
The rest of the cast that were in this film - nailed it! 10
Sit back and enjoy. That's really all I could say.
BTW. Don't let the length of the film scare you away. I was caught up into it during the opening credits. What an awesome movie!
SO go for it now. Set aside reality for about 3 hours and enjoy. As I read in one review this is by far the best Spaghetti Western (wanna-be) ever filmed. (My apologies to Clint of course)
Killing Them Softly (2012)
kill me quickly.......please!
I can actually say that I did enjoy a number of scenes in this film. I thought they were well done and interesting. As far as attaching them to the rest of the dribble that made up the entirety it simply does not work. The storyline is quite simple and it should have been a much better standard hit man movie that could have been filled with all the necessary blood, guts and action that go along with this genre.
When I see a film I like to suspend reality and be entertained. I actually cut my fingernails during this one. So boring. Without spoiling one scene (the robbery), I will say that even in the world of make believe there is no way that the two crooks should have even made it out of that one.
Do not pay to see this one. You may well regret it. Watch it though on DVD (or better yet, TV) just for killing some time one day.
Flight (2012)
A good film. NOT great. NOT awesome. NOT perfect. NOT his best performance.
I enjoyed this film. Really. But to place it as high as many reviews here do simply does not make any sense to me. When I go see a film I want to be entertained. It doesn't have to be simply random violence. It doesn't have to be full of sex. It doesn't even have to be a true story.
Without giving away any spoilers I find the film comes across with a very simple and overused formula. Man with addiction. Man causes death. Man struggles with addiction. Man can walk away from the incident without harm, but man decides to be noble at his own risk of harm. Quite boring actually.
Like I said. I enjoyed the film. It could have starred ANY other and even unknown actors and it would have been the exact same. The stars in this version did not add anything in particular that would make it memorable.
I am a big fan of Denzel, but his portrayal here is nothing spectacular as to when I compare it to most of all his other films. It was just fine.
Go see it, but do not expect the hype that this film seems to get.
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Always thought I was a big Batman fan..........
......but I just found out that I'm not.
This entire movie could have been told in 85 min, including all the action scenes at the end. For some reason it was stretched out into almost 3 hours of tedious boredom.
Now I realize that a movie has certain liberties with reality, even more so, a comic book movie, but this one takes the cake. An unrisen one at that. I won't say what as to not spoil the spoilers. Watch only if you have a lot of free time. Better yet, stretch it out over the course of a few weeks. Might not insult your intelligence as much as watching it straight through.
Please NO MORE Batman movies. Thank you.
As a footnote, after almost three hours of listening to the voices of both Batman and Bane I have had to seek therapy. Who do I sue?
I would have only gave it a one, but decided on two to show that I can be generous and forgiving to all the flaws in this film.
Splice (2009)
Splice: S_illy P_ointless L_ook I_nto C_oncocted E_xcess (of stupidity)
I love movies. They don't have to be great at all. Just entertaining. I will allow a certain amount of insult to my intelligence also. I watched this film and I felt violated.
I cannot cover in 1000 words or less about what is terrible about this movie. It is simply impossible to do.
First I will say a good thing about it. The only good thing. The first 20 minutes or so. I actually thought that this was going to turn out to be a movie that I would enjoy very much. I love sci-fi. I hate garbage.
For some reason, after the first 20 minutes, the direction and story of the film simply went awol. The story from this point on becomes a montage of pretty well every film I have ever seen in my life!. These montages last for about 30 seconds each. Needless to say that, all together, this was utter nonsense. (Like I said, I can't explain with 1000 words).
One of the worst insults to my intelligence was when they decided to move the 'splice' to the country place. Despite years of marriage the husband had no knowledge whatsoever of the wife owning this place (Left by her mother I assume). They decide to keep the creature in the barn. A building that looks as though it was constructed before we ever even heard of Billy The Kid. The property is uninhabited (uninhabitable actually) and looks to have been so for at least a generation. But, low and behold....we still have electricity....and all the lights work! I don't have the space to go into the much more solid structure of the house beside the barn that seems to be about 6 months abandoned and without electricity, of course. I wish I could of had a brain scan at this particular scene. Would have been interesting to see what activity started to shut down.
Well, I wasted time and intellectual effort into watching this movie and at this point into my review I am beginning to feel that I am wasting a few brain cells telling you about it.
I am going to be selfish now. Every man for himself. Watch this only if you have some grey matter you no longer need. I WARNED YOU!
The Dark Knight (2008)
a simple joke! not for anyone with intelligence
Well.........where do I begin? I have no idea.
Heath Ledger, given an award after he died. The man was a drug addict and simply went too far. Not such a great performance in the film actually. Mediocre. But because he went tits up, his role was portrayed as one of the greatest ever. Nonsense. Like I said. Mediocre.
As far as Batman is concerned, he definitely needs some throat lozenges. What a crock with that voice they had him use.
It was less than halfway through when I lost all interest and forgot what the plot was. If there was one. The only reason I saw the ending credits was simply because of the fact that I needed some background noise for the evening.
You want some real Batman! Watch the 60's TV show. Campy...yes. Phony...yes. Utterly ridiculous...yes. But, it was Batman and enjoyable.
In one sentence......."the worst ever".......
Planet of the Apes (2001)
OMG!!!! What a load of crap!
I am 54 years old. I watched Planet of the Apes when it was in the theaters. The original of course. I was 10 the first time I saw it. I watched it a number of times in my life and it always was fascinating to me.
This....I just don't know how to describe it. It has nothing to do with the original story. This Tim what's his name seems to think that because he directed a few notable films (never liked him by the way) that he has the right to basically.... well, rewrite the Bible! The film has no plot, no character development, no direction. It's just a simple fill in the screen for two hours of monkey business. NONSENSE! My apologies to this current generation. Please do not rate the Planet of the Apes story on this (cough, cough) film. As backwards as it might seem, watch the originals. Yea, I know that films that old may not appeal to this age of film making, but watch it as a history lesson in film then. You will not be disappointed.
I will, however, say that The Rise of the Planet of the Apes film is a great movie. I hope one day that a REAL director will produce a faithful rendition extrapolating from this film. One can only hope.
Please, please, please, please. DO NOT WATCH THIS FILM FOR YOUR OWN SAKE.
The Thin Red Line (1998)
okay, but not that great
I finally got around to seeing this movie. I liked it. But I can't give anything more that a 5 for it. Unless I get emotional. Then I would give it a 7. Maybe. DO NOT watch this movie if you are looking for any action war scenes. Sure there are a few, but nothing compared to even the most low budget war movies ever made. If you are, however, looking for some (contrived) emotional insight to fighting men then this might be a film for you. I have heard that the original cut was 6 hours long. (6 hours!!!!!) Now that would probably be a great torture tool if we ever decide to torture people. Watch this film if you have nothing to do and enjoy the (actual) simplicity of it.
The Pledge (2001)
What a waste of time this was!
There is only one reason why I lasted through the whole movie. Jack Nicholson. From this point on I will think about it. The whole premise is nonsense now that I watched the entire film. In the beginning it made a little sense that this retiring detective would maybe have gone through this whole scenario. But after watching it all, I no longer think this. It was simply an entire let down for me. I have no idea who let Sean Penn think that this would be a great film. Maybe he lied to himself. Don't even watch this even if you are absolutely bored! You have been warned. I really want to give it a negative 10, but can't find the link for that. I wasted a few hours of my life with this one. Don't waste yours.
District 9 (2009)
ha ha ha ha ha
Watch this if you only have a night to waste. It could have been a great movie, but in the end just a waste of the mediocre talent that they found to participate in it. There is only one thing I enjoyed in this (cough, cough) movie. When the star actor (I use the term loosely) entered into the alien (Robocop ripoff) armour. Two minutes of great action. Other than that I have had a ton of more exciting dreams and nightmares that are worth more than this dribble. Enough said. Enjoy (only if you heed this warning). I am supposed to give 10 lines minimum. If I continue, I will probably be censored. So just typing away here.
Running Scared (2006)
This film is your individual ride into yourself and your emotions
I am not going to take the time to critic the script or actors (all good) so my rating has nothing to do with that but, I can only rate this a 10 because this film will lay bare your emotions, no matter what they are, so (for any individual) it can't be less than a 10. I don't think that there is any point covered here ,whether for a moment or two, that will not affect you in some way. Strictly speaking I will never think that this entire film scenario would ever arise in any circumstance, but this is a movie after all. And with a movie, we can take liberties. Watch it and be honest with yourself. Do you want to kill your nemesis? Do you feel sorrow for your past? Do you hate or love your parents? Is the stranger next door worth any effort from you? Does life have any value? I challenge anyone to watch this film and not walk away without at least thinking of one thing very personal from their life. For myself I saw how much love as a father I can give, not getting any from my own, to an individual that needs it. Enjoy and remember, it's just a film. Or is it?
Freeway Killer (2010)
Sorry to bring down the rating, but...
I know with only two ratings before me, the average was pretty high for this movie. Not that it's such a terrible movie mind you. It does lack a lot of detail that I think should have been included. I know that you can only put so much into 90 minutes, but I think it should have been at least a two hour movie in order to fully appreciate the scope of things. Also, less time could have actually been spent with the abductions and killings which was very sparse to begin with and didn't add anything to the character development (I think the police or news discussing the murders as part of the story would have contributed more than enough details of the killings). The acting itself is definitely not Academy Award material, but tolerable. I walked away from the movie not feeling fully informed of all that happened which I thought was the main point of the film. As I said, not terrible, but then again maybe not worth watching. As far as the previous reviewer comparing the lead character to Jack Nicholson....that HURTS! (My apologies to JN if that review ever gets back to him) I got more satisfaction and knowledge reading about the Freeway Killer on-line.
