Movie ??!!??!! (Spoiler!!!!!!)
3 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Is there anyone who has written a review for this movie ? It might be a movie where people are trying to go from one generation to another. But, as a reviewer, i had to view it multiple times to completely watch it. Not only did it say that women weren't given equal status, men were pathetic who couldn't get jobs on their own and depended on money of women's parents(dowry) and they were so poor that they were thrown out of their BIL's marriage and were given rights to beat up their wives. If i had seen this as a man, i'd become a MGTOW and if i saw this as a woman, i don't know how i'd rate the men. Overall i'd say the movie is obnoxious. How the producer gave money to make this is difficult to understand. Some of the best actors acting in this movie must mean they wanted to make a difference at that time but didn't want to touch the director's artistic view and just went along with it !!!!!! Kudos to the actors, but none to the director.

Worst topic to take up
13 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Just like every director who's going through a tough time, the simplest topic they can take up and beat around the bush and get money, Mr. Bhagyaraj has also taken up the brahmin hatred topic back in 1988 and made sure that he has come up with a movie. When i see it in 2023 now, i see that "Tamizhan muzhuchikittan about brahmin hatred" topic and wherein brahmin women will also love non-brahmin men. When, the brahmin father has thrown his daughter away from home, why would he even care about what they do? Be it going around and making sure that they don't live it ? It seems ridiculous now when i watch it in 2023.

Worst censored movie ever
29 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
When I watch 'Vikram' current generation movie by Kamal during the first 30 minutes, I couldn't get past it coz it consisted a lot of drugs in them. I felt it was trying to push the boundaries of what is considered common or accepted by the villains of Tamil movies of current generation .

As a person in 40s currently, when i watch the movie nayagan as a middle-aged person now, i'm not able to get past the first 7 minutes of the movie because i feel as a nice person, this movie might have pushed the boundaries of what is considered normal during those times couple of decades back. This shouldn't have come through the censor board during those times itself.

It might have been what is considered by critics as a good movie, but when i see it as a normal person who's a typical middle-aged person who's born in 1980s, i feel this movie gave permission to movies like 'thevar magan', 'sethu', 'paruthi veeran' and even 'Baasha' to be accepted by censor board to be watched by society due to such stupidity in this movie.

If we all think that 'Godfather' is a great movie of Hollywood, even in that movie, there weren't any beating up as much of people as there would've been in Nayagan. And in current USA, there are a lot of people getting shot with guns and people who come across such news in papers just flick those without giving any importance such news these days.

I'd consider even Rajini's movies which doesn't portray so much of hatred in them and just do fancy fights as normal in them coz there is only hero worship and nothing more. TBH, even 'Baasha' had a lot of fun in it. Such movies might not get across critics, but they'll be considered normal by people of Tamilnadu.

So called comedy !!!
14 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Some of those times when you really wish there was a rating below 1 is this one. Replace in the beginning and in the end when the main characters who are women, if made as men, will the movie be watchable ? If the cunning, conniving characters, who even kill their own father and sell off his organs, are let go scot free is considered as comedy is India or Tamil Nadu, then this movie is for you.

Just answer when the movie is being watched, if there is any scene is comedy ? There might be a lot of scenes where the women are smart or over-smart is this movie. But beyond that, there wasn't much to watch in this movie.

Start by making movies which try to boost the youngsters/oldmen or people in general without shouting or using bad words and can be watched by people across generations is what is desparately needed now.

Ps : people(directors/producers) should watch MGR movies which always say good things and should make those kinda movies applicable to current generation.

Drama with a lot of issues
20 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As someone who's born during 80s and watching it four decades later, i can see how/why the movie the movie has made it into such a successful movie. It did make me think that the synopsis of the movie could've been used to be remade into a movie for the city life and has been provided for all of us as 'mouna raagam' with a positive/happy ending. One difference was that the lover wasn't there to compete with the husband and the only thing which was offered was the divorce, wherein the lead would've had to face her life all by herself and not without a male to support her.

Movie also had a lot of worrisome issues in it such as support for euthanasia, which is not even supported so many decades since the movie appeared. Some of the scenes such as heroine trying to escape from her parent's eyes from her lover's place could've been easily portrayed as lover using his collection of dhotis instead of using the clothes which they were wearing then and there. In my eyes, these scenes make it not just 'R' rated, but something which would/should not have escaped the censor, but i'm seeing it now so many years later.

Expectation vs reality
21 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I came here expecting a masterpiece and am going back after seeing a showpiece. The story starts off with a lot of promise and has a lot of leads from which the story could have taken off in a great fashion, but till the last minute, there seems no such effort has been taken.

On what basis did Anne Hathway make the decision that Ben's (De Niro) role as an intern seems to be working after getting him transferred is beyond me. To be honest, If anyone who's handled an entire team for over 40 years (based on which he was chosen as an intern), is not observant(to get him transferred), then the person who's making the decisions(Anne Hathway) is taking baby steps in handling business and has a lot to learn.

Pushing the boundaries of U
16 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
As a person who has seen the movie once, then i couldn't answer the following questions with a big yes.

1. Can i bring my family with a 10 year old kid to this movie to view this movie ? If so, then censor is pushing the boundaries of 'U' certificate.

2. Is it possible to narrate the story of this movie to a friend ? Coz, there is nothing in this movie. To be honest, I'd not be willing to view this movie once more.

3. The only positive thing in this movie is the acting of karthi coz he has gotten loads of screen space as a first movie to make a good first impression with the tamil nadu people, but beyond that, there is not much to drive home about.

There's only one thing which i can answer with a big yes.

Is there a lot of negativity in this movie which will fill me with a lot of sadness coz i've seen a great movie at the end of it with loads of drama, yes !!!!!

wastage of talent !!!!
12 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This movie might be a good fun based movie and might keep you occupied for the time you've invested in it, but to expect some sorta storyline might be as good as deceiving yourself. What surprised me was to see someone like bindu madhavi in this movie not even utter any word or occupy any screen space as a part of the story. To be honest, she didn't even come good like the astrologer or even as good as the dancer. As someone who could be as good as a second heroine, to be only a part of a movie as an extra character surprised me a lot. Ditto with a lot of characters in this entire movie, with a lot of actors !!!!

A story which is full of wrong things
5 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Two people who do wrong things to people, one(Surya), who does wrong things in a small margin, but doesn't cause any harm to the people whom he does to and also gets paid for it by going to jail, the other one(the one who sells ganja), not only does sell ganja, but also causes harm to the people, essentially, the rate of harm/wrong that he does is higher, apart from that, there isn't much of difference if u look at it from a different angle.

Sitthan, whom he is loyal to, changes based on who is very close to him. And also, Manju, just because the guy has gone to jail, falls in love with him and all is just poorly written on my part, ditto with simran's song. All these could've been avoided/rewritten.

Acting is great by actors, especially by Vikram, screen space given to him is less, despite that, he has impressed me a lot. For the first time, i came to know the amount of acting that Surya could produce and was really impressed by him, ditto with Laila. Doesn't mean the story is all that great.

How to be single movie review
22 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It should've been named "How not to make a movie". Some of the actors have been wasted for no apparent reason. Unless and until they're in desperate need for money, i don't see them acting in this movie.

It does contain a few lessons which can be taken from it.

1. Basically, World treats you based on how you treat the world. Very well portrayed by Tom's character towards the end

2. Even if you're a person with a lot of brains and everything, each profession(like being a doctor) comes with a lot of dignity.

If you don't project it well(Based on Rebel wilson's character), it will not be considered seriously.

3. Some of the people who stay single, remain single based on their idea of what it provides instead of actually knowing about it.

A fairy tale from two decades back
27 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
After watching this movie after more than two decades since it was made, i was forced to review this title based on the current trend/times and situation. I watched Meena forgive karthik multiple times throughout the movie and was forced to reflect on the real life of women of current trends. Women are divorcing men who are teetotalers and who aren't asking for any dowry but just because they don't comply with their wishes these days and when i see this movie, it looks like a fairy tale without a doubt.

"I've got a skin condition"
10 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Seems like the writers went out of their way to make the lady seem out of place in this show so that they can chuck her out and make a completely new theme with the bar and assorted set of characters.

Makes you realize that it's not the class that matters, but how well it gets utilized by the writers

Even frasier who's a psychiatrist ends up cleaning the bar by sweeping and ends up in the show, but the casanova's lover ends up getting humiliated and gets chucked out. This particular episode is an excuse for an episode

Late thy name is "Just friends"
19 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
There's a saying in our country that instead of going with the folks you like, go with the folks who like you. If I were the director, I'd have finished the movie couple of minutes earlier when Chris goes to his L.A. life where he's adored and he's got a woman who likes/stalks him for who he is !!!

TBH, if Jamie comes to chris now, there's a lot of chance that she'll be doubted for coming to him when he is popular and rich instead of being with him for who he is.

musings
28 December 2013
These are some of my thoughts as i see the movie. It might not be cogent though.

After watching most of the movie, i'm wondering why it is categorized under "comedy". There is nothing fun about this movie. if anything, it is the anti-thesis of anything that is fun.

I've to say, the best part of the movie that i really enjoyed was the voices done by the girls. it drives home the point to everybody who thinks they are perfectionists out there. unfortunately this includes me as well.

it also made me realize that when somebody questions our choices, instead of accepting it that it might be wrong in hindsight, the first thing that comes out is attacking the other person's choice.

when i see that the two main characters can't get themselves out of each other's minds, it made me think why is this not called recidivism.

despite still in their early thirties, the lead actors look much older. is this how the script demanded it, GOK !! overall, this movie does drive home one point. Instead of wondering, do i leave the theater or not, make a choice and act on it asap.

phrrhic victory
5 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
i never understood the meaning of the word 'pyrrhic victory' till i saw this movie. at the end of the movie, everybody loses something. colonel loses his job and is arrested, country loses a high ranking official. if i was in kaffee's position i'd not have been manipulated by joanne into questioning the colonel. kaffee won't be given any more chances by putting a colonel in jail and thats the reality. if he wasn't able to see it before all this court room drama then its his fault.

some open questions remain.

1. if santiago was a weak link, there r 2 ways to solve the problem. either by making him tough or by letting him go and ensuring he is not the weak link in protecting "the wall" as they say. why didn't the second option never occur to anybody? 2. how santiago eventually died is never discussed. they put a sock in his mouth and he spurts blood and dies? was it poison or not? open question
