Katt Williams: 9 Lives (2010)
Interesting look at the comedic legend!
I'm a huge fan of Katt Williams! I definitely find it interesting to be able to get inside the head of such a brilliant comedian. You learn a lot about him from this DVD. For example, you learn that he has eight kids (7 of whom are adopted). Can you imagine that household on a Saturday morning?!? I'm sure that's pure comedy in its own right.
Some things I found interesting on this DVD were the late-night TV appearance clips and some old unreleased stand up footage. I thoroughly enjoyed the DVD and think it's a must have for any Katt Williams fanatics out there! Just be aware that this is a documentary and not a new stand up DVD.
Why We Laugh: Black Comedians on Black Comedy (2009)
About time this was made!
Awesome film! I've been waiting for the DVD release after seeing this wonderful documentary at the Sundance Film Festival! This is a highly informative and entertaining documentary! Why We Laugh offers great insights on the evolution of Black comedy from the like of Chris Rock, Bill Cosby, Cornell West, Franklyn Ajaye, Paul Mooney, and more! The performance clips they edit it are hilarious. Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, all the great! This is a really great watch and it was about time someone address the way Black comedy has affected the Black experience. From the names i already dropped you know you are getting insights and opinions from highly credible folks!
Laffapalooza! (2008)
Fast Paced Laughter All Night!
This DVD is absolutely hilarious!! I'm already a huge fan of Lavell Crawford and Earthquake (from Shaq's All Star Comedy Jam - Live from South Beach) but Corey Holcomb was brand new to me and he had me rolling on the floor crying! I swear I lost a couple pounds after his routine. His humor is kind of crude and men will get more of a kick out of it but ladies can definitely find the humor in it too! Overall this DVD is great!! No one really disappoints. It moves at a real fast pace though! It's great for hosting guests even with young children around since there is no foul language! I will definitely be adding this to the DVD collection!
The Stick Up Kids (2008)
More than a Crime Flick!
This film really impressed me! I thought this would be just another NYC based crime thriller but they actually tackle some real deal issues that New Yorkers are experiencing in several of the newly gentrified neighborhoods (Harlem, Williamsburg, Ft. Greene, Bed-Stuy). This movie also taught me some stuff I did not know about New York City's first settlers (hint: it was not the Dutch). Overall the cast if pretty solid. Bryce Wilson and Mel Jackson are stand outs, they did an excellent job in this one! Aside from some odd and corny scenes this DVD is pretty good all the way through. I'd recommend for a night with the fellas, kicking back and playing dice!
