They can't be serious!
31 May 2023
I've been on this planet for eight decades. I have been a movie fan for just about all those years even working in a theatre for a time and I've seen the best and the worst, and this was surely one of the worst. Most of these reviewers must have had some money in the film. There was nothing funny about any of it and all those who think otherwise should check their funny bone. I have undoubtedly seen most if not all of Hope's on screen work and there have been a few with very little comic appeal and this one's at the top of the list. Why and how his leading lady got herself roped into this one is equally surprising. I would think a lot had to do with pushing the propaganda value having been released in '43. View it if you like, but funny it ain't even with Bob Hope in it.

Very, very bad!
7 November 2022
I've been watching movies for seven decades; I've seen all of the Martin & Lewis films and enjoyed most of them. Jerry can be funny when he's got a good straight man and Martin pretty well always filled the role adequately. When they broke up Lewis tried to be both, and failed miserably. This was his worst. I do not know what folk found funny about this one. Most of his so called humorous sections were anything but. The two brothers did not fill the role at all, and Judith Anderson must have been going through a rough time to take this one on. At the end they had a beautiful young lady that could have done a great job as a romantic lead, but they gave her nothing but standing opposite Lewis's crazy antics. Watch it if you want, but if you have any taste in comedy you will come away very disappointed.

Mockery!!!
24 September 2022
I have been a Christian, Christian pastor and Christian mission representative over the past sixty years. I have been through the Scriptures both intensively and extensively over those years including the account upon which this film has ostensibly been built. The only similarities between the truth of the Word and this "story" are the man Noah, a large body of water and a huge boat filled with animals called an ark. The rest is all mythology. If you are not a Christian, that's fine; if you are then don't waste your time as we did. The special effects are good and are commended, but everything else is pure imagination.

What's happening to a good action series???
10 May 2022
I've been watching all of the NCIS series from day one including L. A., and it's the first time that one of them have gone from action and catching the bad guys to almost literally a visit to the "Brady Bunch". If this is the best that the writers can come up with perhaps a solid "30" should bring it to a close.

Gives Hospital system in the US a very bad review
15 January 2020
I must admit that I found this episode very annoying. Morris Chestnut I have really enjoyed in other series, but in this one his character, Cain, is repulsive at best. Any one this egotistical shouldn't be allowed any where near the medical profession, and when he gets Conrad fired, I found that to be almost unbelievable. If this can happen then there's little wonder that medicine in America is in bad shape. It's good that all of the other doctors and nurses are in the jobs for the health of those sick and dying. I'm going to have to leave off for a while, but may be back in a few weeks.

Very bad episode
10 December 2019
Been watching all the NCIS: LA from the beginning and have enjoyed most of them, but this was, to be kind, quite pathetic. City of LA on the verge, we are told of a major terrorist attack and the whole team sitting around discussing their personal lives and the problems they feel they're facing. In a word, who cares? The threat received about 1% of the program and quickly cared for at the end. The rest ... well, little sense in discussing it for it has already been discussed ad nauseam. Let's hope for better writing in the coming year.

Where, when and why?
2 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Have been faithfully watching this series from the get-go, and while some of the episodes have fallen off the tracks a little, this one went way wide. There was no cohesion present throughout. The opening was a huge gun fight that there was little or no explanation for. Calen was wounded and wound up taking care of a small boy throughout the episode. The newlyweds opened with trying to figure out if they were really meant to be in business. The two analysts went off as he was being considered for a new job in San Fran which had no relation to NCIS at all, and Sam with another face we've seen irregularly spent time trying to find some guy who was supposed to have betrayed a gang, and the gang had kidnapped his wife. What has any of this to do with NCIS? The writers had better get their act together or this season will be it's "30". Even my "4" rating is generous.

This may be moral, but it's not Christian
26 February 2014
I am sorry, but I must have been out of the room when the term "Christian" was re-defined. To be a Christian is to be one who's been to the foot of the cross in the realization that one is a sinner and that nothing short of repentance of that sin and full and unequivocal surrender to the person of Jesus Christ will ever do in the life from that moment on. It means a life changed and forever after sold out to the Lord Jesus in everything. It means a great deal more than the few paltry statements of pure unadulterated lip service that are contained in this film.

Being a follower of Jesus is more than playing the latest contemporary music in a church worship team, it means being his, twenty four seven, in all that we do. Walking in ways that please Him not striving to have one's way because it satisfies the flesh. There is never any indication that the young lady in this film, or her father either, have got any more than a "little religion" which has made them somewhat different from those around them.

The new birth, regeneration, as specified by Jesus in John 3, and later in the NT in the book of Titus is a whole new way of life, because it's life that God has given not simply a new way of doing things. "Christian" films today are marginalizing what it means to be a child of the King. And it's so disappointing to see professing Christian brethren give them high marks simply because sex and bad language are being omitted. Our standards are being lowered each time a film of this genre makes its appearance.

Ender's Game (2013)

It's all right ... but ...
31 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I was very much looking forward to seeing this film as the trailer had much in it that would appeal to anyone seeking a film with a lot of CGI effects and action sequences. From this standpoint it was very good and through most of what we see we are not disappointed. From a story point of view, however, it leaves much to be desired. Drama has never been a really strong point with Harrison Ford, though what he did with "Regarding Henry" was exceptional. Ford needs actions flicks to really shine. Here there was action but he wasn't a part of it. He played to it and as a result he appeared a weak character. No, the action was all on the part of the young people that were involved and while they were into it, sort of, even here things fell a little flat. Of course the plot centred on Ender and from the moment he was recruited to be a "warrior" it seemed as if he knew what he was and was to be about. We were never, until moments from the end, given to understand that he merely looked at the whole of his role as a mere "game" though the title should have told us otherwise. Yet when the end rolled around, and that happened far too fast, suddenly we see a young man filled with seeming righteous indignation that he should have been used to wipe out an entire "species" of life. Yet this is precisely why he was recruited in the first place. Why did he feel this way? We have no idea but suddenly he's off into the nether reaches of space as a peace ambassador. And why? I doubt we'll ever know.

Excellent
20 January 2014
There are not many "feel good" movies out there today, but this one really counts among those that fill this category. Cuba Gooding has long been one of my favourite actors. He possesses a wide range of acting abilities as evidenced by "Snow Dogs" on one hand with his somewhat bland comedic style to "Gifted Hands" wherein he brings to the screen a dramatic style that is uniquely his own. It is this latter gift that he portrays in this feature as he moves from an ex-con to a giver that gives back to the community and its young confused residents, a new hope that most had never known. He portrays the real life story of Eugene Brown, a man who'd known nothing but crime for most of his life, but once he was through serving many years for armed robbery, he dedicated his life to helping other young men to see that there was more to life than crime. It's a good story made better by the fact that it was based on real life.

Not Good
28 October 2013
I have been a Christian for over fifty years; I have been in pastoral ministry over thirty years. I believe I have a good handle on the Word and the Christian life. This film says absolutely nothing about either. From the standpoint of the "rapture" (so called) the film is totally lacking in a Biblical foundation. I am not sure what a non-believer would think about what is portrayed here, except that perhaps there is a second chance following Christ's return. This could not be further from the truth. And the last thirty seconds wherein God is portrayed by a scruffy old man welcoming someone who has spent the majority of his life in a motorcycle gang and knows nothing of Christ, absolute nonsense. Don't writers and producers of these films read the Word before producing them. Perhaps they should view a fine film like "Fireproof" wherein the Gospel message is graciously and fully presented before making up biblical fairy tales. Now please, don't think I am trying to be harsh for harshness sake, I am trying to wake up the alleged Christian film making community into putting Scriptural truth into their films and stop trying to attract the world through violence that they can get anywhere else. This is the Living Word of the Living God they're attempting to put on film. They must do it prayerfully, and reverently and honestly. God will use nothing less.

Again, it's a "story" ... it's entertainment
11 October 2013
I think that there are a host of folk out there who have nothing better to do than write ridiculous reviews. Here we have a whole host of them. Of course the whole of the scenario is far fetched and as likely to happen as finding life on mars, but so what. If they had taken time to implant more character development, and they had as much as they needed, then people would have said it was too slow and not enough action. If they had put in more story line, then they would have said it was too "talky". There's no winning with some people. I knew that it was primarily an action flick, so I looked for nothing more, and was gratified at what took place. The special effects were great, though admittedly they did make the whole secret service, military et al look a little weak, but there you have it. I believe most people will enjoy what they see and the adrenalin will keep pumping. I found the whole thing quite enjoyable.

Under the Dome (2013–2015)

Poor at best
11 September 2013
I have watched a lot of TV series over the years, some of which have been excellent, and a great many not so. This one falls into the latter category. The number of places that it falls down are almost too numerous to get into. For ex., since when has an event of this supposed magnitude not ended up drawing curious crowds from miles around ready to set up their housekeeping on the spot to watch ongoing events? Or how about the dome itself. Sure, in one episode the military shot a missile at it which, while failing miserably, did not even bring more attempts to crack this thing. The military gave up? Since when? How about weather conditions "within"? One episode showed high winds within the dome and nobody thought a thing about it. Where did these winds come from? Couple this with the fact that some of the acting is quite lame, at best. Well, the one big surprise out of it all has to be that this whole thing is going to be reprised in 2014. Judging from the other comments on this page, folk have just about had it. Sorry.
