Gossip (2000)
A film for the ages
Gossip, in my opinion is one of the best films ever, one for the ages. Now I realize that most people don't really like this film, for one reason or another, however this film has some of the most amazing qualities that filmmakers neglect to acknowledge in today's filmmaking. One of which is the anatomy-and assemble of the cast. The main and supporting cast alone is one of the reasons that I first wanted to watch the film. James Marsden gives an absolutely enthralling performance that should be more recognized in his career. I see no real holes in his acting and his character makes me wish that we could see more of those characters in films today. When James was in this film he was just getting his career going and, what some might say he was somewhat young in that stage of his career, we should hope to see such hard work, attention to character and determination in today's 'upcoming stars', as he did then.
Derrick Webb is a character, I for one, hope to see more often in thrillers in the near future. Derrick's interesting appeal to women, and the fact that he is rich, makes it so much more enjoyable. Not to mention his character's thrilling change and turn of events; where at one stage we actually feel sorry for the guy for being a different type of 'freak'.
Travis, played by Norman Reedus is one of those characters that I love, to delve into his artistic expressions and talent, and not to mention Norman's gripping performance as yet another type of 'artistic freak' in the film. So basically I love almost everything in this film from Joshua Jackson (and his performance) to the actual storyline as well. Furthermore, the camera lens and series of close ups at thrilling points of the film are absolutely brilliant, which again I wish filmmakers put into today's movies more often. Say what you will about Gossip but I completely love this film, and find myself watching it over and over again for multiple reasons. So it all comes down to great acting, and not only good looking actors (that we don't see as much today, as we should), great storyline, great camera shots and angles. One for the ages in my opinion (that should really get higher ratings than 5.6).
The Faculty (1998)
one of the best films ever
The faculty is seriously one of the best of its genre. But what really makes it amazing is the actors, Josh Hartnett gives an unforgettable performance even though that it is his third role. With amazing performances from other actors such as Robert Patrick from the classic Terminator 2 whom plays one of the best villains i have ever seen.
This film is an instant classic that brings a story unlike the rest of the film written from Kevin Williamson, he makes us believe that he can actually make a film that is similar only by the way the characters are written and not based on a insane slasher killer like his other film which are still incredible by the way. Robert Rodriguez brings what the film actually needs; action, suspense and evil teachers. It has an excellent soundtrack that actually fits in the film and creates the high school universe. Kevin Williamson also emphasizes on how much teachers can suck and that all teachers could be aliens.
You will not find a teenage sci-fi, horror, action, thriller, high school movie like this one in the 21st century. They don't make films like the faculty these days. No actors these days apart from a very small group of actors could ever be even close to the performances in this film. So bravo Kevin Williamson, Robert Rodriguez, Josh Hartnett, Shawn Hatosy, Clea Duvall, Robert Patrick and Elijah Wood On making an unforgettable classic film.
Ginger Snaps (2000)
Ginger snaps, one the best horror films EVER!!!!!
Ginger snaps is one of the greatest horror films ever made even though it is low budget, with the great performances by both Emily Perkins as Brigitte Fitzgerald and perhaps one of the hottest Canadian werewolves ever Katharine Isabelle as Ginger Fitzgerald. The phenomenal story of two sisters The Red and the Black, the red getting bitten by a werewolf and the other appearing dark, shy and morbidly disturbing. What this film really needs is nothing because it is properly one of the best Canadian films ever made even though that it is almost 11 years old it still makes a big statement for itself in the film industry and provides very big competition for any filmmaker that wishes to create a werewolf film.
Ginger snaps is a truly legendary film, although if hot and very talented actresses like Katharine Isabelle and Emily Perkins were not in the movie then i properly would not think twice about seeing it.
The characters are very well written, the very embarrassing yet funny dominant mother, the father who says virtually nothing all throughout the film, the depressive looking daughter and the very attractive but still very scary (in a hot way) redhead, creates the audiences understanding of the contents of this film.
I even felt sorry for Ginger's boyfriend after they had slept together. (the bathroom scene, but it still was very funny) and half the audience that watched that scene still would say that it was worth it.
So in conclusion I give this great and horrifically awesome movie 9/10
Pandorum (2009)
Unexpected greatness
Before this film came out here, i heard of the title Pandorum and read the plot and instantly thought that it was another crap film attempting to be as good as a movie like alien or pitch black, but as i watched it the first time only because i heard that actors such as Ben foster, Dennis Quad and Cam Gigandet (Never back down was awesome) were in it, i was astound at how great it actually was. I was so shocked at its greatness that i actually had to watch it again and again.
Not only did this movie have unexpected greatness included but it also had an unexpected story line and ending. I mean the ending scene with the pods emerging from the water and also who better to play the bad guy(s) other than Cam gigandet and Dennis Quad, it was amazing. And if you haven't seen any Cam Gigandet films you'd better do that before the next one. My only criticism is that it didn't have a better soundtrack and a better suited actress to play the girl (no offense). So if you're ever in class and the teacher surprisingly asks you what movie to watch in class, say Pandorum it will be worth it.
