A story, about a story, distracted by a Shih-Tzu, with guns
6 October 2012
My friends and I went to the San Diego film festival this past week and were fortunate enough to get into an early screening of Seven Psychopaths, by Martin McDonagh. The film was very satisfying to me personally, weaving an original story around rich characters. Story is something that I take into great consideration when viewing a film as it has lost a foothold in many films today. In terms of presentation, I felt this movie to be a combination of Guy Richie, Quentin Tarantino, and The Coen Brothers. It's hilarious, dark, gripping, precise, quirky, demented, gory, and British. The frequent narration and character introduction of the movie gives it a constantly evolving lure and makes you feel like you're sitting by a camp fire listening to something unfold. Even though their is a thick layer of narration and Peckinpah darkness, it's fun as hell, with the acting a huge aspect of that; if you want to experience a great story, that discovers a point to the whole mess these characters undertake, and have a blast at the same time, then go see this awesome movie!

Laaaaaaaame

We can expect more from the guy who directed Event Horizon. When I watch movies, I take them in for what they are, so I'm not going to compare Resident Evil to American Beauty or Mystic River. However, I can compare it to The Dark Knight, Doomsday, and Kickass, which are decent action movies with really well done action sequences and imagination. The Action in Resident Evil is really exaggerated; as in they try to make a whole lot of nothing into something. Like when Wesker is dodging bullets, hes just kind of standing there making retarded faces. My friend expected this to be a bad Resident Evil movie which most fans(those who loved the first three games, and Code Veronica) will expect, but this was just a bad movie. Nothing was explained, just shown to look bad ass. The characters are bullshit and cliché, and Chris's situation when you are introduced to him doesn't make any sense. Finally the most disappointing aspect of the movie was the action, they don't even really shoot them in the head anymore to kill the zombies, it's just shooting, and looking bad ass. Also the hand to hand fighting wasn't impressive, The Matrix, which was created over a decade ago, Kickass, Doomsday, Batman, Spiderman, Watchmen, V for Vendetta, THE EXPENDABLES, and every Arnold Schwarzenegger movie(Including Jingle all the way) have more enticing action scenes. However, the helicopters do look really bad ass, which is why I give this a 2 out of 10 instead of a 1 out of 10.

Inception (2010)

The only summer blockbuster

I have noticed throughout the film world that people tend to either have ridiculous action and no depth or vice versa. Inception keeps you entertained and offers you something to think about if you want to. The imagination behind this film is ridiculous, as it should be because it interprets the human mind into its on own universe in a nutshell; a world as your playground to some aspect. Many people tend to over look the complexity behind directing and especially creative writing. His adaption to his own script into big screen is very clever. This is the most intense movie that has been released this year. Although, many people have compared this film to an amine called paprika that involves diving into dreams as well. Also note that many of the jokers clever schemes were derived from Alan Moore's(watchmen, V for Vendetta, From Hell etc)adaption to the batman story. But nonetheless this movie is incredible, everyone has their sources, see this, in Imax.
