Petite maman (2021)
One of the most beautiful films of the year
I think "miraculous" is the most accurate word i can use to describe this movie. Petite Maman is incredibly simple in its story but at the same time incredibly impactful and utterly beautiful. Reminded me so much about how it actually feels to be a child in a way that i had never felt with any another movie.
Kôdo Giasu: Hangyaku no Rurûshu (2006)
This is the work of Genius
Code Geass is almost a miracle. I cannot begin to imagine how a story this complex could be put in anime with such grace and elegance. Mixed in with the common tropes in anime such as giant mecha robots that fight, high schoolers taking up unrealistic roles in society (the vast majority of the main characters are teenagers taking up active roles in politics and nation forming philosophies) and fan service, is a very well thought analysis and commentary on various incredibly important topics such as free will, what is justice, what is a good government and are atrocities against humanity excusable if the ultimate end is to achieve world peace. I could literally sit for days trying to analyze everything this mecha anime has thrown at me and it is amazing!
Midnight Mass (2021)
Brilliant!!
One of the most original stories i have ever seen put on the screen. I really could not have imagined that i would have been invested in a vampire story as i was with midnight mass. I had always thought that vampires in fiction were some kind of cult/religion but i had not imagined that they had so much in common with the Christian lore, like almost everything that happens here is explained with some verse from the Bible and the juxtaposition of vampirism (which is commonly associated with satanism) with christianity was just Brilliant because it all made sense in the context of the series.
Fun with Dick and Jane (2005)
One of my all time favorite comedies
I find this movie so funny all throughout its runtime. All the actors are doing a great job and the pacing is perfect. The first time i watched it, i was literally in tears and at times unable to breathe because of all the laughter. This also provides some kind of temporary relief to those that are pissed at how the economy works and the impunity with which the wealthy go around.
Brüno (2009)
Crazy fun!
This is one of the most offensive movies ever made, but strangely enough, it is offensive in the most clever way, exposing the biases of people and just having the craziest amount of fun possible out of the most ludicrous situations.
Minari (2020)
Wonderful movie
During the first half of the movie, it felt as if the movie was aimless and was going nowhere but all of the sudden, i found myself tearing up with the events that were being displayed. This movie excels in representing real people and the real struggles of trying to start something in a foreign land whilst trying to maintain a family.
