Loot (2022– )
6/10
Just not quite there.
14 April 2024
Loot is OK, but nothing special. It looks fantastic and has a good cast, but there's something missing. It's never particularly funny, and the characters somehow don't connect like they should do. To be honest, I was quite surprised it got a second season... What I've seen of the latter, hasn't improved things. I was hoping they'd have fixed the issues with the first season, but it's just more of the same really.

At least the episodes are relatively short. That's appreciated in these days of bloated, unnecessarily drawn out series.

But do we need a third season? I would say no. Loot passes the time, but that's about it.

Trollied: Episode #3.1 (2013)
Season 3, Episode 1
4/10
The start of the end.
24 September 2022
Season one of Trollied was excellent. Season two wasn't bad, but there were signs the show was starting to struggle. By the third season, all was lost. Andy and Kieran left early on. Rats deserting a sinking ship for sure. Season 3 also heralded a new trend for the show. Unwelcome new characters that debuted in the first episode and stayed all the way through to the end of the series. So you get Richard France, painfully unfunny after 2 minutes, but he was featured heavily throughout the series. Also, Gavin's girlfriend Anna. A dreadful character who never raised as much as a titter in every episode she was in. Also the fishmongers who were hopeless from the first scene they were in.

Sadly this continued to happen for the rest of Trollieds' run on Sky. Who can forget Granny Rose? Dreadful from the second she first appeared. As more regular characters left, new ones who couldn't fill their shoes were introduced. Amazingly Trollied lasted for 7 seasons. Each one worse than the last. Obviously Sky liked the show even if no one else did!

Big Boys (2022– )

Charmless and dull
27 May 2022
Maybe it's just me, but I thought the 2 episodes I watched were pretty bad. Firstly, for saying it's supposedly a comedy, it's totally devoid of laughs. It's also full of unlikable characters that have no chemistry with each other at all. Can't anybody write a decent comedy anymore? I doubt I'll summon up the energy to watch the remaining episodes. Why put myself through it?! A shame, as I thought the show had potential when I heard about it.

Lucifer: Nothing Ever Changes Around Here (2021)
Season 6, Episode 1
1/10
Let it end!
12 September 2021
I can't be the only one who thinks that when Lucifer was axed at the end of season three, that it was a sensible decision. Granted, give us a couple of episodes to wrap everything up and leave it at that!

3 overlong Netflix helmed series later, and I'm at the end of my tether. I'd like to see how it ends, but I don't think I can stand another 9 episodes of this drivel..

For the record, season 6 episode 1 has an incomprehensible 'murder mystery' storyline that bores for its whole 48 minutes. I honestly believe no one cares about this show anymore. The characters all irritate and I think the actors are just grinning and bearing it for the cash. Given their performances in this, I think it's unlikely we'll see many of them in new shows soon!

Netflix are great at giving a reprieve to dud shows. I see they've just agreed to do a 4th season of Manifest. A show that ran out of steam at the end of season one!

Anyway, back to Lucifer, this really is awful TV and this episode is one of the worst things I've seen all year. It's just absolute rubbish with no charm or skill whatsoever.

Great start to the second season...

...and quite misleading as the other episodes are mixed. And that's being polite! This is a sweet nostalgic tale that's beautifully performed by all. Minnie Driver is superb as always. I've never seen her be anything less in all the work she's done, to be honest. Even if you don't watch all the ML episodes, be sure to catch this one. You won't regret it.

Modern Love: The Night Girl Finds a Day Boy (2021)
Season 2, Episode 2

Down to earth.
20 August 2021
After the lovely first episode, the quality slips about 100 notches. Dull, unlikable characters. The story is not witty or dramatic. It's just THERE. Again, you won't give the slightest toss if these two make it or not!

This is more like it.

Great leads. Funny script. Genuinely likeable characters. One of the best episodes so far. Some have complained that they didn't get the conclusion they wanted, but I think you have to use your imagination in this case. Highly recommend this one.

Charmless.

Another dud episode of Modern Love. The leads are dull and lack any kind of chemistry. The music is horrific. Trust me, you won't care if they get together or not!

Headache.
20 August 2021
This was a torturous watch for me. It's basically 30 minutes of kids running around and talking, or more accurately, screaming over each other. Is it aimed at 8 year olds or what? There's not one character I cared out. Avoid if you don't want a migraine.

Lucifer: Really Sad Devil Guy (2020)
Season 5, Episode 1

Linday
2 September 2020
Lucifer is back for an unnecessary 5th season. The plot lumbers on struggling to find ways to prolong the resolving of the Chloe and Lucifer story. It's like an unfunny version of the Sam & Diane storyline in Cheers! So, far all the season has proved is that Tom Ellis (overacting like he's playing Widow Twanky in the local panto) really can't 'do' an American accent.

However, all this to one side, I have to say I'm totally distracted from all the 'action' by Linda's (Rachael Harris) vast unmoving forehead. I know Lucifer isn't a subtle show, but how much Botox did they inject into that poor woman? She looks absolutely ridiculous. Uncomfortable too!

Lucifer: It Never Ends Well for the Chicken (2020)
Season 5, Episode 4
1/10
The low point (so far) of a series that's had its day.
2 September 2020
Absolutely dreadful episode that seemed to go on for years. Hopelessly lumpen and totally unfunny. It's all so forced...I can't help but think Fox got it right when they originally axed this show at the end of season 3. Season 4 was bearable, but unnecessary, but all 5 has done is prove that Tom Ellis can't handle an American accent. If you insist on ploughing through season 5 (part one, for heaven's sake), do yourself a favour and skip episode 4.

How hard can in be to refresh the MIB franchise?
3 May 2020
This was a bad movie. For once I agree with the majority of the reviews. The female lead was utterly bland and charmless and as for Chris Hemsworth, an actor I usually don't object to, he was shocking in this! I'll overlook the peculiar accent, but his comic timing was way off throughout. Mind you, the script was so bad that even a 30 year old Robert De Niro couldn't have done much with the film. . The whole thing, despite the obvious cost of the movie was weak and amateurish. I'll be amazed if there's a MIB: International II.

Weak and charmless.
19 April 2020
Very poor. Not dramatic or funny at all. The leads had no charisma and it was a struggle to make it through the whole show. I realise by only watching one episode, I'm not giving it a fair go and it may improve. However, I disliked it so much I can't force myself to try it again!

Dear God.
20 March 2020
I love Modern Family, but this has to be one of the worst episodes ever. Not one of the guest stars was remotely funny. The story was like some horrible U.K. farce from the 1970s. The highlight was Luke rocking the chest hair!

Luke the genius?
24 February 2020
The show is always fun, but now we're meant to believe that Luke, who for the last 11 years has been a complete buffoon, has now dreamt up a genius idea and is suddenly able to deliver an articulate sales pitch? I know the show is wrapping up, but come on! That said, I hope there's a spin-off series or two. It's going to be hard to lose Phil at least...

The Ani Show.
5 December 2019
I swear Ani must have been on screen for 40 of the 45 minutes episode 7 ran for. I'm not blaming the actress who's just doing her job, but the writers must have been mentally ill to make a character who's totally new and has no background with any of the cast the focal point of the season. Ani is smug, annoying and loves to tell people what she thinks of them. Yet we're supposed to warm to her? Even Dylan Minnette, a decent actor, struggles to get over the fact he's supposed to have feelings for Ani. It just doesn't work. She's no more a part of the show in episode 13 than she was in episode 1. 13 Reasons Why must now hold some sort of record for shooting itself in the foot with this plot strategy. Surely Ani won't make it to season 4. They wouldn't dare, would they?!
