Sweet Charity (1969)
Sweet Charity needed the alternate ending
I really liked this movie until the ending. Yes, the original ending in the Broadway show and the film has an unhappy ending, but for me it just doesn't work. The character of Charity is such a sweet person and she deserved a happy ending. This is not WEST SIDE STORY. Having an upbeat motion picture and it ending like it does with Charity having no future is not what the audiences in 1969 wanted to see. In the end Charity she has no husband, job or friends. What kind of future does she have? The only ending for Charity is to kill herself. I think the unhappy ending hurt the film's box office. People left the theatre feeling real depressed. What a downer. The alternate ending was uplifting and left you feeling good.
Jason Bourne (2016)
No one seems to notice they are in an earthquake
I never liked any of the BOURNE movies, mainly because of the shaky camera work. Nothing has changed with this newest BOURNE film. Why more people or reviewers don't comment on this terrible way of filming a movie is beyond me. The plot of this latest BOURNE movie is terrible; even if it was good you wouldn't know it as the camera is always shaking so you can't focus on the story. Do the filmmakers think this kind of photography makes the film more exciting and real? They better watch CNN when the reporters are in the middle of an attack. The camera is rock steady. I blame mostly the director, Paul Greengrass, for the lousy way this movie is filmed. If they do anymore BOURNE pictures they need to get a new director.
They All Laughed (1981)
Can't Get Worse Than This
I always thought Peter Bogdanovich was a great director; what with films like THE LAST PICTURE SHOW, WHAT'S UP DOC?, and PAPER MOON. What happened to him? This film was totally unwatchable. What a waste of time and what is Audrey Hepburn doing in crap like this? Is this suppose to be a romantic comedy? There was nothing funny about this picture, unless you like seeing John Ritter falling down a lot. This movie is a total bore. Anyone who likes this picture needs to get out more. I can see why this film bombed at the box office and pretty much killed Bogdanovich's career. Didn't the actors read the script before committing themselves to this project? Didn't anyone view this picture for releasing it to the public? What a shame!
Annie (2014)
One of the worst motion picture musicals of all-time!
I thought the 1982 motion picture version of ANNIE was awful, right up there with THE WIZ, MAME and LOST HORIZON, but they are all classics compared to this piece of garbage! Who green lit this movie project? Jamie Foxx should be ashamed of himself to be in anything this terrible. Cameron Diez was equally bad. I love Rose Byrne, but I felt sorry for her being in this lousy movie. I admit I was spoiled by the magnificent motion picture version of INTO THE WOODS, so it made seeing this version of ANNIE even more horrible! The best version of ANNIE is the Disney T.V. production. Save your money and watch the way ANNIE should be starring Kathy Bates. I said this was one of the worst motion picture musicals ever made, but it is also one of worst movies of 2014.
Peter Pan Live! (2014)
PETER PAN (Live) was dead
PETER PAN (Live) was suppose to be a big event for NBC. What we got was a production poorer than some high school plays I have seen. Alison Williams was so blah as Peter Pan. She brought no excitement to the role. Than we have the biggest shocker Christopher Walkens as Captain Hook. He slept-walked through the entire show. He spoke his lines like he was holding the script in his hands. Walken seemed totally bored with the whole thing. Now we come to lost boys who were played by grown men. I'm surprised we couldn't see any hair on their chests. The dance numbers were nothing and the sword fight between Pan and Hook was laughable. If you can, watch the Mary Martin version or the Cathy Rigby production of PETER PAN. They will make you forget this truly awful presentation of a classic musical play.
State Fair (1962)
Good remake of the 1945 classic
Why the critics hate this film so much is beyond me. I found it to be a decent remake of the 1945 motion picture. This movie stars Tom Ewell, Alice Faye, Pat Boone; in great singing voice, Bobby Darin, the fantastic Ann-Margret and Pamela Tiffin. The makers up-dated the story to Texas and made changes here and there. I like the 1945 version better, but that doesn't make this film any less enjoyable to watch. The critics go on and on how they hate this movie. Why? What is so bad about it? The singing is great as are the production values. If you want to see a truly horrible remake look no further than the T.V. version of SOUTH PACIFIC or THE MUSIC MAN.
Don't listen to the critics and just watch and enjoy this wonderful version of Rodgers & Hammerstein's STATE FAIR.
Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return (2013)
Another failed attempt.
Disney tried to recreate the magic of the 1939 classic motion picture with OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL; it didn't work and it doesn't work with this latest animated movie. The posters made it look interesting, but than there is the film itself. The story line was lousy and all the name star's voices did not help the picture. Can't the makers of movies, like this, see that it isn't good? Doesn't Hollywood have screening rooms any more? And what is with all these great reviews for this movie? Come on now. The way people write about this film you would think it was the second coming!!! Today's filmmakers need to forget about messing with one of the greatest motion pictures ever made and come up with new ideas.
Frozen (2013)
Looks like a direct to video feature film
After reading all the great reviews of FROZEN I was really expecting a new classic Disney animated film. What I got instead was a movie that looked and sounded like it should have gone directly to video. The picture was slow moving and talky, lacking humor and memorable songs. The film looked good, as did PLANES, another movie that was suppose to go directly to video, but was release theatrically. The 3-D was nothing special and added nothing to the picture except the three dollars extra for the 3-D glasses. The real highlight of FROZEN was the Mickey Mouse short before the feature. It was everything FROZEN wasn't, Funny, fast paced and the 3-D was good.
Camelot (1967)
One of the greatest motion picture musicals of all-time.
One of the greatest filmed musicals of all-time. What is with all the negative reviews of this film. This is a magnificent motion picture. The performances are top-notch as are the production values. Richard Harris is great as King Arthur and Vanessa Redgrave is the best Guenevere ever to grace the silver screen. I love Julie Andrews, but she would have been all wrong for the part. Richard Burton was offered the part of King Arthur, but turned it down. Why are people so down on the director Joshua Logan? He makes stage musicals look like motion pictures. Is that the reason many people don't like his direction? Do they just want a filmed stage play? How anyone can say this is a terrible movie is beyond me. I guess those people should stick with films like "Grease."
