Vishwaroopam (2013)
A good movie, must watch in Auro 3d
Kamal Hassan has done an excellent job with the movie. It doesn't have a racing pace like any other spy thriller would because of the parallel narration. The movie's cinematography is cool. Kudos to the team. The action sequences will take you by surprise. They are worth watching twice. The parallel narration would make the movie seem to be slow for a Soy Thriller, nevertheless a movie is really good. The Afghanistan part covered in the movie should be an eye opener for many. Pathetic, how young people are brain washed and forced. This movie doesn't have equal scope for Actress like Andrea which will be there in most Kamal movies, but the script doesn't warrant it and rumors are that she has very good role in V2. I loved the parallel narration to the core, for me it made the movie feel like a real one than a racy cinematic one. If Devar Magan was 10 for the Acting of Sivaji, Kamal, Nassser, Revathi, Gauthami and script, this would get 10 for Cinematography, narration Style, Technology, Kamal's acting. Climax could have been made a bit more enthralling, but the movie was really good overall.
Enthiran (2010)
Expected a lot. Too much Masala stuff
This movie has once again shown that Tamil industry is going nowhere. I mean come on, I expected a lot from this movie. But once again lot of marketing strategy marred the movie. I have been a fan of Kamal and Rajini (almost all of Balachander's) for a long time. Rajini has sure got talent but I cant stand it anymore of it being completely misused.
Aishwarya Rai in this movie is just being used to show up and for songs(the glamor factor). Of late almost all of tamil movies does it. They have no roles for Heroine. They base their movies solely on Hero and what more they add more spicy stuff to the movie.
As famous Vivek Dialogue goes "We even make Jackie Chan to speak Madras Tamil". Now we made, what should be a serious, breathtaking, feverish movie into a masala mix. Unless we stop bringing stuff into a movie just because of the external pressure to do so, Tamil Industry is gonna struggle. Probably most people would understand it's about the songs. This movie doesn't warrant the kind of songs it has.
Neither Shivaji nor Endhiran were Shankar-isque or Rajini-isque movies. Just like Kamal did in Dasavatharam, these two have made a mistake of allowing the character to compensate the plot. Hope my two greats Rajini and Legendary Kamal come back to their own.
Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
A good movie abroad but all familiar story for Indians
A really good movie for movie watchers abroad where usually you don't often expect a movie like this. Because probably they don't have a place like that in their respective countries. But this is all too familiar story for Indians. Have seen loads and loads of movies like this which dint make it big because of 'the no big names factor'. Hope many Indians would agree with that. While many Indian movies of a similar story line would have had a tragic ending this one is on the contrary.
The movie has some superb scores by A.R.Rahman who is known in India for bringing some western styles into Indian music after Illayaraja. And the music does make an impact and adds to the story line.
