Long Life, Happiness & Prosperity (2002)
Cute, Enjoyable & Rather Entertaining
Who says that a Korean actress cannot portray a Chinese character? Granted it's not a perfect movie, I was deeply moved by the human elements so true to the Chinese Community in North America.
I do agree with Frank L. though that little of the superstition exists in Chinese culture these days, but i respectfully disagree that this film would create "new stereotypes unheard of before".
After all, it's just 90 minutes of good entertainment. As a Chinese American/Canadian living far away from China Town, it opens a window for me to other Chinese's lives, and to better appreciate what i have as well as what I don't have.
Didn't know that Sandra O. & Russell Y. are from Canada! Best wishes to them both on their continued success on the big screen or small:)
Spooks: Agenda (2006)
Brilliantly Written
Sad to see Adam break down, but everything's so realistic... it's indeed one of the lovely qualities of the character & the show. The relationship between Jenny & Adam developed fairly naturally & was handled pretty well, in my opinion, even though i wish they hadn't slept together:) The church scenes were beautifully shot too, esp. those monologues, reminding me of a meticulously crafted stage play. It might not be a popular episode, but the brilliance of the writer(s) just shines thru actors' excellent performance. I agree with many other comments that the tone of the show is kinda dark & remorseful, with main characters "disappearing" one after another, but isn't this life depicted in its extreme format - people come, people go - we're just resources of a cause & everyone's to be filled eventually? Am still in the middle of Season 5... can't wait to pop in the next DVD!
