The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
Love in the time of Cordyceps
A mostly, very well done episode, with a memorable character from the game, Bill's past and back story being fleshed out. Although it seems far fetched that a reclusive, self proclaimed 'survivalist' or prepper would be treated by fate to a person of the same orientation landing directly on his door, the episode mostly carried off the story well anchored by Nick Offerman's, quietly subdued albeit stoic performance. The production values, are as always with HBO, top notch, but Bella Ramsey's portrayal of Ellie; atleast to me is still not as endearing or interesting as her counterpart in the game.
Voyeur (2017)
An unbelievable tale told in circles
The documentary generates nothing but unease through its runtime ,and frustration by its end due to its lack of inference and direction.
The story however, is as interesting a peak into insidious realities that exist in this strange world of ours.
Il posto (1961)
Neorealist Poetry
Like all things worthwhile, the film appears simple, on the surface that is. This facade of simplicity fades when one begins to notice the exquisite performances, and the pathos lurking underneath.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
The definitive feel good masterpiece
Based on the King short story 'Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption', this Frank Darabont masterpiece has etched itself in the minds of viewers ever since its release as one of the most beloved films of all time. In the beginning of the short story, its alternative title is revealed to us: 'Hope Springs Eternal'. This in essence is the message that the film is trying to convey to the audience, and what a wonderful way it is revealed!
