Contagion (2011)
A Build-Up With a Weak Climax
The fact that Stephen Soderbergh is directing drew me into this film. He does deliver a unique visual style with his mark on it. However, he delivered the storyline in a very literal fashion, making some scenes as dramatic as the screenplay alone. The focus was more on how the disease was spreading, less than what it should have focused more on, the fear of becoming sick. The story included the characters' and their fears, but the fear was never evoked enough to frighten the audience so much. The idea of the epidemic is frightening, but this fear is lost in the story as the characters do problem solving to fix the situation. I was glad that the film ended on this theme, but it seems as though this was making up for what the film didn't focus on. As for the structure/pacing, it was good and not so good. The film exceeded in giving the beginning a rapid pace to show the scale of the illness escalating. The rest felt the same way, giving it the strong build-up with little to no climax. I was disappointed. The score, on the other hand, was great and contributed to the suspense and edge the film required. Overall, the film looses track on what it could do well and focuses too literally on the story (by that I mean it's about what the story IS, not what it could MEAN.) --5.5
The Country Bears (2002)
One of the Greatest Movies of All Time
The Country Bears is truly a cinematic gem and the film of it's generation. Everything about this movie is amazing. From the acting, to the directing, the writing, the cinematography, EVERYTHING! This movie is the only perfect movie I have ever seen except for The Godfather. Personally I like it more than The Godfather. The movie is hilarious throughout the entire course of the film. It is an extremely smart movie and there is a very powerful ending and it had me crying for almost an hour! It's that good! This film is about life and death and Beary's fate. It is a film for kids but I think adults will enjoy it even more. If you haven't seen this movie yet, I highly recommend that you see it. 10/10
Fargo (1996)
A Film For Anyone Who REALLY Enjoys Movies
This movie was so stunning to me that the day after I viewed it I was re-watching parts of the movie in order to analyze the masterpiece. It is one of those rare films which can have you talking about it the next week. So much of the credit goes to Daniel Day-Lewis who was do devoted to his role and made his character what he was. As you watch the movie, you will start to identify the traits of his character, which may be disguised at first. In my opinion, the whole film is about this man's character. It's about what will satisfy him in the end and how cold he is. Many people will choose to ignore the meaning in movies, and if you are this kind of viewer then don't bother. This is for people who take a lot of interest into films.
