The Old Man & the Gun (2018)
Fine for Redford Fans in No Hurry
If you've enjoyed Redford's last few movies, like me, you'll probably also enjoy this, but by the end, you may find it less than satisfying.
Despite a great cast and being beautifully shot, momentum is lost beyond the halfway mark. There's plenty of promise, but it's quickly lost and the ending is underwhelming.
But Redford and cast are clearly having fun. And there are worse ways to spend $10 and 90 minutes.
The Midnight Swim (2014)
Glad I Didn't Buy It; Wish I Could Forget It
If you're all about the feels and could care less about substance, you'll probably love this and coo about it to all your gal (and maybe certain guy) pals.
Solid film-making and acting are wasted.
For a better movie, with a similar concept, setting and an actual payoff, watch Honeymoon (2014).
Bad Moms (2016)
Fun
After seeing a guy, whose reviews I respect, give this a decent rating, I went in, optimistic.
Admittedly, guys in their 30's might not be the target demographic; but a well made, well edited, well acted movie, with a fun script, is hard to argue with.
Like I said... This is fun. Pure and simple.
It's also fairly even handed. The male characters that are schmucks, get called on it. The women, too. In one scene, where Kristen Bell's character bags men, in general, because of her negative experience, Kathryn Hahn's character gives her a look that calls her on it.
Don't get me wrong; this is not a deep movie: it's entertainment. If you go in, knowing that -- Which most reviewers seem to miss, then you might enjoy this, as much as I did.
And, hey, why not take the entire morning and see a double? This, and Sausage Party.
Enjoy.
