Without Remorse (II) (2021)
8/10
Didn't read the book and absolutely liked the movie
3 May 2021
I had to look up my login credentials to be able to write this review. I was kind of shocked to see so many negative reviews for a movie that I absolutely enjoyed watching. Although I've never read any of Tom Clancy's books, I am familiar with his work. Many movies are directly and indirectly based on his work. So yes, Without Remorse might not bring anything new to the table, but does that matter?

The setup and script of the movie were good, as well as the acting and the fight scenes. Add the camera work and music selection and it all adds up to a movie that is worth watching it.

If you are a fanboy and can't take it that they deviated the script from what was written in the books, then the movie might not be worth your while. Of if you're an absolute nitpicker and feel the need to give it a 1-3 rating because they used the wrong rank on the sleeves once in the movie, it might not be worth your while either.

Suicide Squad (2016)
7/10
A lot better than the critics make you believe
5 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Reading all the official reviews from the critics, I assumed Suicide Squad was going to be as awful as BvS. But on the contrary, this movie doesn't have big gaps in the story like BvS and it's fun as well. But they could've done a lot better though.

I really enjoyed the character introduction. Especially for viewers not so familiar with DCEU, this was a nice touch. Personally, found it a little strange that they didn't introduce Slipknot. Even though he got killed in nearly his first scene, it would've made a bigger impact when he got his own introduction as well. After the introductions, the movie slowed down a bit and got slightly more serious.

Will Smith and Margot Robbie were clearly the stars in this movie. Will Smith as Deadshot, as always, portraying el savior and Margot Robbie did an amazing job as the psychotic Harley Quinn. The chemistry between Harley Quinn and the Joker were great to watch and I can't wait to see if the two of them are getting their own spin off. According to the rumors, many scenes of the Joker were cut out off the movie. That's a shame, because although the screen time of Jared Leto was too short, he positively contributed to the movie. Then there's Enchantress... Out of all the villains in DCEU, they chose her... Her story was too obvious, the CGI wasn't that good and it kind of reminded me of the final scene of 2015's Fantastic Four when they fight Dr. Doom. Not a movie you want to be compared with. Choosing another villain and creating a better story around the villain would have easily added another point to the total of this movie.

So all in all, the movie is not bad at all. Some jokes may come over a little too forced, but others will have you going. Some decisions should've been altered, as putting more of the Joker in the movie, choosing another villain and maybe go R-rated like Deadpool instead of PG-13. They are villains right?!

And oh, please make up your mind for the next movie, either give Killer Croc a smaller head or give him a bigger body. This way, he kind of looked like... well you know what.

Zootopia (2016)
9/10
Very entertaining for adults too!
24 February 2016
Went to see this movie with my girlfriend yesterday. We saw the trailer and had high hopes for it, and boy did it deliver.

The characters are well thought through and the visuals are beautiful. The whole idea behind this movie is great. It doesn't involve any human characters, just animals that all walk on two feet and live their lives like humans would. Disney has created a whole new world where everyone has a job and does its daily activities.

Of course there's a deeper moral to the story like any other Disney movie. To see how it all works out, I'd say just check it out, you'll like it.

Heroes Reborn (2015–2016)
7/10
Bye bye good memories
2 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
How excited I got from seeing the teaser during the Superbowl, how frustrated I am now from seeing the first episode. Five years have passed after the last season of Heroes. So you would think they would have had enough time to come up with a story as original as season 1 and 2. Instead they proceed on the same level of story telling as season 3 and 4. For the ones that have not seen those seasons, I can tell you those weren't any good.

The first few minutes start off quite nice. It's good to see Noah Bennett again, hear the theme song and see some of the strange powers come into play. But, after a big explosion he appears to be the sole survivor. Quite convenient isn't it. Only a few minutes into the new show and this already struck me as odd.

As other reviewers have already pointed out, there are more 'oddities' to this show. A 15 year old girl working in a ice cream parlor and already conducting the job interviews. A boy in the same ice cream parlor sees a business card of that same parlor and immediately knows that's the one he left in the place where an explosion took place. Although it had the same smiley signed on it, it still could've been a random card. And of course, pom poms are literally everywhere. What a cliché.

But the thing that nearly made me switch off my TV was without a doubt the Katana girl. I don't even want to say too much about it, since everything has already been said. But seriously come on, after five years you come up with a girl that morphs into a video game to save her dad. That's the best you can do?

The only thing that keeps me going in this show is the mystery of not knowing what Noah apparently has forgotten and what is 'coming'. That and maybe some cameo's of old characters. For everything else, all I can say is thank you Tim Kring for ruining our last fond memories of Heroes.

Update Nov 11: Having seen ep 7 and 8, I have to change my opinion about this show. It's really picking up. The plot is unveilling and although at first I thought it was only getting worse, it's very interesting now. They finally give explanations to who is Katana Girl, why is Joanne trying to kill all the Evo's, why does the world need to be saved again and by who. Hopefully they will keep this up towards the end of season 1. I am changing my vote and can't wait for ep 9.
