The Sandman (2022)
Great show let down by bad last episodes
Episodes 1-6 felt like a completely different separate show from episode 7-10.
First six episodes were marvellous I enjoyed every second, the beautiful portrayal of dreams, stunning cinematography, great individual stories and performances, great lore... I enjoyed all of the Endless siblings we met. Pilot episode was stunning and I enjoyed Jenna's appearance but special mention to episode 6 which is a complete masterpiece, both the touching Death parts and Morpheus relationship with Hob through the ages. Followed closely is episode 4 with Hell, epic battle and amazing performance of Gwendoline as Lucifer. I will truly remember those episodes forever.
If I was rating a show based on Episodes 1-6, and 11, I would give it a solid nine stars, it was that good...
Sadly the show took a hard plunge form episode 7 onwards I fell even the score I gave is generous. Rose was horribly written character and actress was even worse. The whole tone shifted in tone when it became all about Rose and her friends and brothers plot line, and that ridiculous convention.
All the beautiful gothic mystery and atmosphere was gone and we were suddenly following two extremely annoying kids in a show completely different in writing, tone and visuals. I couldn't even bring myself to care for Vortex storyline. Corinthian was a great character but storyline finish could've been better in a different setting...
Special episode 11 Cats/Calliope which aired later was absolutely magical and brought back all the mystery and lore and everything I love about the show. I'd gladly watch full season of Morpheus/Calliope spinoff :)
Interview with the Vampire (2022)
Stunning show!
Been a fan of the books for 25 years. When I saw first trailers I wasn't convinced on changes they made as I wanted show to be completely faithful to Anne's books in every way. But this show has proved me wrong and than some. Absolutely amazing writing, amazing acting, beautiful cinematography, sets, costumes, atmosphere.. I can't sing enough praises of this and it promises to be even better in season 2. All the changes they made were done thoughtfully and written beautifully and make total sense while still being faithful to larger story. All actors are top class as well! Jacob's version of Louis is even more interesting than book Louis to me and Sam Reid was born to play Lestat. Older Claudia surprisingly still worked. Eric Bogosian as older version of Daniel is such interesting twist and I wonder where they will go with it. I know the books so intimately I am glad the show brought some tricks to still surprise me. And Assad Zaman is a great addition as well and revelation to me. Based on s2 teaser he will be mesmerizing as Armand!
The Witcher: Blood Origin (2022)
Nothing to do with Witcher- worst fantasy show of the decade!
Nothing to do with Witcher. Complete travesty and completely invented story and world. Insult to Witcher, insult to Sapkowski, and insult to whole elven race!
The producers seam to be confused if they are making show on ancient Witcher universe, or some random Viking's show.
I expected this will be horrible judging by how bad the main show is, but this exceeded all of my expectations and then some. Holly Melitele this was so tragic, so unbelievably bad beyond all measure, both as stand-alone show and as Witcher adaptation. The people in this production are absolutely clueless and incapable. Horrible story, cringe writing and dialogues, nonsense invented plots. Absolutely abhorrent set designs, costumes and casting. This is suppose to be a world where Aen Seidhe elves rule, in height of their power, with impressive elven style cities and decorative flowy architecture, magical empire of elves.. But we got looking lame characters that look like medieval brutish swearing humans from some primitive clans and pathetic medieval human world that looks like some generic B-production fantasy attempt, and sets look like they are built from cardboard boxes and spray-painted by high school production.
This production totally fails to imagine this magical elven world so instead they made same old dreary medieval world where ancient elves look and act like men with fake ears slapped on them. These people don't understand who elves are in fantasy at all and haven't look at any lore references from either books or games clearly. The lore is all wrong and the invented nonsense of a story, omg the story!!!! The invented elven witcher and fake elder blood origins and stupid monoliths again... it's so bizarre and so bad, I won't even dignify it with critique.
I don't know what's worse, original characters or Eredin and Avallach who were totally miscast and totally changed and butchered. If I could give this a negative score I would. One of the worst things I have ever seen in my whole life.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Complete FAIL
It's is so cringe and soulless. Style over substance. Lacks and intelligence and logic. Crap sprinkled by some nice visuals... other times looks super cheap. Sometimes CGI looks so fake like a digital paining not real world. Overall really boring trope. 20min in I though I will already roll my eyes out of my head and it kept getting worse. Main known characters completely ruined! Horrible writing, cringe dialogues and monologues that try to be deep, embarrassing forced comedy, acting and narrating that feels like highchool level, horrible styling of elves, lame cheap looking costumes and armour, annoying original characters, no attention to practical details in scene and actions... I could go on and on and on.... Most of all lore wise insult to Tolkiens' works! This is not my Middle Earth!
Dexter: New Blood: H Is for Hero (2021)
Interesting twist
Of course Harrison is going in his steps, of course that s the angle show was going to take. History repeating and all that.. I should've seen it coming. Don't know how I feel about it yet but the show has certainly taken some interesting twists in the end of episode 3 and ep 4. And I felt this episode had Dexter atmosphere the others were lacking.
Dexter: New Blood: Cold Snap (2021)
Great start!!
LOVED the first episode. The cold landscapes and warm atmosphere of a small town it complete contrast to Miami vibe but still somehow had the classic Dexter charm. Michael back is Dexter role is perfect as expected. And it was so touching to see Deb being his Harry now. The fver first scene of Dexter hunting but always sparing the dear was so special to me and very telling of his values. Love the new characters as well. Overall cant wait to see more of this!!!
