The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006)
Not worth seeing at all
I am a huge fan of movies, especially horror films. But this one was not a horror...it belonged to a genre all its own, which I would probably call "disgusting, pointless, overrated gore and blood". Don't get me wrong, I do not have a weak stomach and I do not close my eyes because of gore. I enjoyed Saw 1 & 2, which had a lot of blood and pain. However, those movies had a story, which this one is rather lacking. This movie was extremely predictable and boring, and I did not get scared even once. I did not scream or flinch or anything. I was mildly disgusted by all the random blood, but mostly I was glad when the movie was over. I recommend saving your money, and not seeing this film. It is glorifying senseless violence (I know, I know, what else are horror films for, but this one was just a waste of time and money) and you will be a happier person if you choose not to see it. I don't mean to offend people who like this movie, but I just want to point out that a serial killer+sick ways of killing people+blood does not equal scary. Scary was what I wanted, and it was definitely not what I got.
Shark Tale (2004)
Awesome Movie
I am so sick of everyone comparing SHARK TALE to FINDING NEMO. Finding Nemo was a good movie, but when did it suddenly set the standard for every other Dreamworks or Disney movie that came out after it? This was a great movie. I saw it when it came out, and my whole family liked it (and believe me, my parents are very picky when it comes to movies). I even dragged my friends to go see it and they loved it. It is funny and clever, with lots of great songs and humorous moments.
The acting was well done...particularly Jack Black and Renee Zellewegger...and the animation was good too. The music was fun, the characters were great (especially the Jamaican Jellyfish, mon!) and overall THIS MOVIE WAS GREAT! DON'T LISTEN TO THE BAD COMMENTS! GIVE THIS MOVIE HAVE A CHANCE...AND YOU MAY BE SURPRISED!
Until then..."Don't worry...about a thing...because every little thing...is gonna be all right..."
A Ring of Endless Light (2002)
Pretty Good
I am in the middle of reading the book, but the only reason I am reading it is because I saw the movie on TV one day and I thought that I should read the book because the movie was so good and interesting. Granted, I missed the first twenty minutes of the movie, but what I saw was really good...and it was a nice, light, easy movie. Mischa Barton was a great choice.
I might be biased because I LOVE DOLPHINS AND MARINE BIOLOGY, but it would have been a good movie nonetheless. Anyways, it made me more interested in dolphins.
By the way...the book is great! You should read it!
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
Best Movie Ever! Johnny Depp is amazing!
I have seen this movie at least two dozen times, and I love it. It is my favorite movie ever! Johhny Depp does an amazing job acting the part of Captain Jack Sparrow, and the rest of the cast is great too.
Pirate movies have never been that popular, but this movie was AWESOME! I became obsessed with pirates after seeing this movie, and I even bought a huge poster of Johhny Depp to hang on my bedroom door.
This movie was everything. It was a hilarious action/romance with great costumes and actors and visual effects, and though the storyline was a little confusing at first, after seeing it a couple of times, I fell in love with this movie. I bought it on DVD right after it came out, and I watch it all the time.
A wonderful, awesome, amazing, great, fantastic, fabulous, MUST-SEE!
White Chicks (2004)
Different people are going to have different opinions...
I saw this movie yesterday with my friends Jess and Mandi. I usually go to a movie every couple of weeks, and so far I have seen Mean Girls, Harry Potter 3, Shrek 2, The Day After Tomorrow, Thirteen Going on 30, and of course, White Chicks. I enjoyed most of the movies, but I didn't really like White Chicks that much.
Different people are going to have different opinions. For example, Jess loved it. She thought it was the funniest comedy in the world, that even the rude and racial humor was hilarious. Mandi thought it was pretty funny, but she wished that there was a little more (understandable) storyline, and she got a little offended. As for me? I thought it was so-so, okay, whatever, not a movie that I will ever want to see again, not something that I will probably even remember. There were a few cheap laughs, but the humor was, well, not my style. It could have been a lot better...but that's like saying I could have been $5 richer if I hadn't bothered to see the movie in the first place.
Overall, you HAVE TO SEE THIS MOVIE FOR YOURSELF TO DECIDE! Because I've read a lot of mixed reviews, and depending on who you are and what type of movies you like, you will either love or hate this movie.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)
Not great...kind of disappointing...
When I saw Harry Potter Three, I was utterly psyched. The first and second movies had been so good so that I thought the third would be awesome (especially because of the Dementors). Turns out the Dementors were quite different then in the book. I mean, they're not supposed to fly or freeze things over...and why did they skip so much other important stuff? Unless you've actually read the book, the movie makes no sense. In fact, I've read the book numerous times, and I was a little confused.
It was not a bad movie. It was pretty good, actually, just not nearly up to par with the other HP movies. The directing was not great, and the transition from book to movie was TERRIBLE! They skipped some of the best parts, and frankly they should have done a better job. The acting was pretty decent, but the Hermione-Ron love thing was way too pronounced and defined at this point.
One final word...if you've seen the Prisoner of Azkaban and you didn't like it, don't shy away from the books (if you haven't read them). In fact, read the third book! It will give you a whole new appreciation of the movie, and of the whole Harry Potter craze as well.
Edward Scissorhands (1990)
Amazing Awesome wonderful Movie!
I am a huge Johhny Depp fan, but even if I wasn't biased by his blend of looks and charm and amazing acting skills, I would still love this film. It is a great movie with some really memorable scenes and quotes. My sister owns this film, and one day my brother and friend and I sat down to watch it and we all loved it so much! It was really great, and we were all laughing our heads off at the scene where Edward (Johnny) punctures the water bed. It is a really awesome movie, a must see, that everyone should watch. Whether you are a Winona Ryder fan or you're in love with Johnny like I am, you really should rent this movie and watch it.
So next time you're at the video store and don't know what to rent, listen to that little voice at the back of your head saying, "Go for Johnny Depp! Get Edward Scissorhands!" I guarantee you'll like it!
