Ônibus 174 (2002)
Compelling Film, totally unreal to me
I watched this on IFC last night, I came in towards the middle, this film was so compelling, my heart was racing, I was glued! The high level of anticipation is unreal in any film I've ever watched. I am continually stunned at how people are living in other countries and what they go through, these people were just on their way to work and school and were fighting and pleading for their lives in the end. I kept asking myself, "could this happen in the US' and would our police have allowed it to have gone on so long. I pray that a sharpshooter here would have taken him out. I highly recommend this film, I can't call it a movie, it's a wrenching look at an evil moment in human history.
Madagascar (2005)
Good kid flick
We saw a screening of this last night. It was me and my 5 year old, who was very excited to be seeing it, from viewing all the commercials about it's release coming up. My daughter loved the music and dance sequences. She also like how "sassy" the Hippo Gloria was. I felt the movie moved very quickly. The animation was good, what one would expect from Dreamworks. There was a lot of funny dialogue between the characters. I felt the Giraffe Melman character was a bit annoying and nerve racking. I would recommend for kids 5 and under. The music made my daughter want to dance at the end. She enjoyed the experience. I enjoyed Chris Rock's character the Zebra. He had many humorous lines. Ben Stiller didn't really come across as being the best voice for the Lion Alex.
Napoleon Dynamite (2004)
classic
I did not see this film in the theaters, but over the holiday I saw it on DVD. At first I was confused, but as the film went on I realized how classic this film is. It is so basic, yet the characters are so interesting in a bizarre kind of way. I watched the film, waiting to see what crazy thing would be said next, I can see this film having a core audience and becoming a "cult" classic. I would recommend this film for anyone just wanting to see something different. I hope the writers come up with some more of these quirky story lines and get them out to large audiences. The frustration the main character has is evident in everyones lives at some point.
The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004)
Good family movie
I am a huge fan of Spongebob, so I've been looking forward to the movie. My five year old loves him too, so I was a little disappointed in the movie. I felt that Squidward and Sandy should have had bigger roles in the film. The series is so good because all the characters are usually utilized, so the movie lacked this aspect. But good movie overall for the younger kids. There are the usual escapades that Spongebob and Patrick usually go through and adding David Hasselhoff was different. The music was good, I liked some of the new characters that were introduced and hopefully they will now be written into the series.
Two Family House (2000)
Great Movie
I just saw this movie on IFC and I loved it!! It has a great story line and the character were well developed and I could really relate to them. I'm glad I came across this, I hope to see it again soon. The story is well developed and I like how the ending turned out. I feel like it is another classic love story, and I'm not one to really like "mushy" films, but this is one is really a classic. I could just feel the main character and his dreams and wanting to 'break out'. I hope I can find the film on DVD or VHS. I like how the story touched on racial issues in the 1950's. I wonder if this is based on a book, because it has alot of focus on characters.
Cheaper by the Dozen (2003)
Good Overall Family Movie
I saw this film today and really liked it, I had my 4 year old and a mix of adults and teenagers. It was nice for all of us to laugh and really enjoy the story together. Steve Martin was great, loved Bonnie Hunt. All of the kids were good too.
The Cat in the Hat (2003)
Confused Movie, Not a 'kid' movie
I went to this movie with a group of adults and kids, and I could never figure out if this was geared toward the kids or the adults. This movie had so much potential, but is marred by inappropriate sexual innuendo. The producers should have stayed with it being a kid movie or and adult movie. I was extremely disappointed.
Finding Nemo (2003)
great film!
I just got back from seeing Finding Nemo and Loved it!! The Pixar team has done it again and the story had very funny moments, the theater on more than one occasion was laughing hysterically and clapping. I went with my 3yr and she loved it, laughing and following the story. The only 'bad' thing was it went a little long, the ending could have come a little sooner, and some of the chase action scenes are a little intense, but overall a great movie!!
Daddy Day Care (2003)
Really good Family movie
I saw this movie with my 3 year old, she got a little restless, but I would recommend the movie, will make a great movie on vhs or dvd. The kids were really special and I liked the whole idea of Dad's taking care of the kids.
