Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)
Massive disappointment
To start my review: yes, I have seen all of the previous movies leading up to this piece of s***.
And yes I have enjoyed those previous films.
This movie, is a letdown on multiple fronts.
I'm just going to sum it up in bulletpoints no need to write too much to make my point.
- it tries to be funny, but fails miserably to land any joke or pun.
- cgi is sloppy. When you have too much monsters that means too much cgi. Which means budget has to be divided.
Result: fake looking action.
- the actions scenes are not involving at all. Looks stupid, does not take you into it.
- when huge monsters as kong or Godzilla roar, you don't hear anything. Yet when they walk the sounds trembles enormously. Reason; the music on these moments is waaaay to loud.
- it is just dumb, so dumb.
You can get away with it when all of the above points are no issue. When they are, the movie fails.
Which it did.
Really disappointing.
Shotgun Wedding (2022)
Pure garbage
I have this movie a good hour of my life, and I regret it. Here's why;
- stupid setting
- dumb script
- bad casting (actors really don't mesh well, no chemistry whatsoever)
- bad acting
- not funny at all
- action is both stupid and childish
- even when people die, you don't take it seriously
- stupid music / sound effect to emphasize a certain scene (really annoying)
- did I mention it's not funny, like in; NEVER -
- sometimes I thought this was a parody, but I don't believe it to be, which is even worse
- really bad effects, as in action looks fake (explosions look really fake, not to mention the stunts)
Andor (2022)
So so
I don't get all the positive comments.
I've watched the first three episodes and find it to be dull, boring and sometimes even acting is dull.
I think it's visually stunning, certainly the best of the Star Wars series that are out there in that regard.
But there's just not that much happening. After every episode I hoped; "ok, the build up is done, let's get into it". But unfortunately that doesn't happen.
Maybe it's more of a drama series within the Star Wars world rather than an action packed series.
If so, this might become better and more interesting moving on to the next episodes.
I just hope something will happen that grasps you and keeps you wanting to see more.
At this moment that's just not the case (in my opinion)
Day Shift (2022)
Not good, not terrible. Just bad.
I wonder what the actual goal of this movie is.
It's not funny, yet specified as comedy. (I did not laugh once).
It's not scary, yet specified as horror. Yes there is blood, there is gore. But that does niet mean horror. There's not a single drop op suspension present.
It's not serious, yet specified as a thriller / drama. The way they shoot in broad daylight, without any cop or other person in sight really is strange. You would think that if you here gunfights in the house next to you, that cops would come by to take a look.
Also, since when does a gunshot to the body makes you fly away for (literally!) meters !?
It is action, however not the kind of action that takes you along the ride and keeps you entertained or in the movie till the end.
You also already kind of know what's going to happen and who is going to live or die, which make you not really care about characters or events within the movie.
1 last thought: J. Foxx didn't really do a great acting job in this movie. He's not funny, not really to be taken serious either. Sometimes even comes over like he did not really want to be there.
He's really been cast in the same sort of 'empty shell' movies time after time. Which is kind of sad.
When I think back to collateral or Ray and how amazing he performed, it kind of seems that he lost his touch, vibe, motivation or whatever.
The Reef: Stalked (2022)
Decent
To start my review; It is my opinion to rate a movie by its genre and for the purpose it has been made.
That being said, I really do not understand all the low scores that have been given to this movie.
In its genre it's a really decent and overall good entertaining movie.
There has been made use, in a clever way, of real great white shots with well timed action shots with the actors.
Causing a realistic showing on how it must feel to be stalked / attacked by a great white.
Only in one case is there a REALLY BAD cgi moment. I'll let you as the viewer decide when that is :-).
I also believe it's a pretty realistic film. There is no over the top moment as in other shark movies, which is really great to see.
Yes, it may be unbelievable that all these things with 1 shark are happening. But viewed separately the definitely could happen.
In my opinion it is not as good as the first 'The Reef'. That one really stands out in many ways.
But this is a good movie in its genre and I am glad I got to see it.
Do not believe the 1/10 ratings, cause it makes no sense.
Even when taking into account the sometimes bad acting, or other stuff you might dislike, there's definitely enough to like about it.
Again: judge by genre, do not compare it with a big Hollywood production or an Oscar worthy film.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Huge disappointment
If I look back at all the movies I've seen so far(at least for the once I can remember), this movie has to be the most, or one of the most, disappointing experiences in cinema.
When I look back at the whole franchise, the first Jurassic Park, really stands on top. Certainly in originality but also in story telling, acting, effects (for that time),....
The second one, the most world, was not on the same level but still enjoyable.
The third movie, was simply said; pretty stupid.
So when Jurassic world came, I was sceptical, yet pleasantly surprised at how I enjoyed watching it and was surprised how they managed to revive a long gone franchise.
The second film, in the trilogy of Jurassic world, was in my opinion enjoyable and really had good moments. Not the best, certainly not the worst.
So when I knew that this Jurassic world dominion would be the last one ever!, I was exited and I looked forward to it.
But oh my, what a letdown has this been.
This movie was so stupid, so predictable, so badly acted at times, so incoherent, so over the top (the Malta scenes, are you kidding me !!) and oh so enervating that I'm wondering why this was even made.
I can start listing all the things I've hated in detail but it won't do any good or provide an added value.
If you want to go see it, see it. But just know that there is a good chance you'll be hugely disappointed.
1 last thought.
When, oh when, are movie makers going to start respect the cinematic public by acknowledging that we are bothered with always the same sort of reactions when big events happen.
Example;
- a big explosion happens. Let me keep watching to the point where I almost can't escape anymore and then start running for my life
- a huge flesh eating dinosaur, let me keep watching in awe until I'm practically eaten by it and then start running for my life.
- you get my point right? (At least I'm hoping, cause it would mean you share the same frustration/ feeling).
Lastly, and sorry it's a spoiler; ALL these actors come together current and previous movies combined, but no one dies or is injured.
Are you kidding me! People die all around this movie.
But not this gathering of paleontologist super heroes. Smdh.
Stranger Things: Chapter Nine: The Piggyback (2022)
Boring finale and somewhat annoying
A 2 hour!!!!! Bore fest episode.
A real letdown compared to a fairly strong season.
The way it builds and end is so predictable that it becomes annoying.
But what really bothered me is that, even in a season finale, against the strongest villain as well as insanely strong beasts / monsters, every body dies. Except of course all the characters that had more then a couple of lines to say.
Even when you think that Max is actually dead, think again.
-> that's what makes it so predictable and hard to get into and take the series seriously.
Cause let's face it, none of the real main characters since the first season die.
When you think about everything that happens and the amount of monsters, villains and other worldly beings that came on screen, it's just silly that a bunch of normal, regular kids and 1 girl with powers save the world from collapsing.
Hope season 5 brings some real seriousness to the show.
Traffik (2018)
Bad acting
How bad of an actress is Paula Patton!
It's ridiculous how is it possible she got the main lead...
It took me completely out of the movie so I can't even comment on the movie itself.
Choose or Die (2022)
Just bad, really bad
I just watched this movie, hoping to experience some form of entertainment. Unfortunately this seemed to be impossible. Therefore my thoughts about this film in bullet points here below.
- Not scary at all. Not even for a brief moment
- Bad acting. Even by the actor who plays a major role in sex education.
- Bad editing and camera work.
- Really bad sound effects. Instead of adding suspense, it takes away possible suspense / jump scares
- It's just really stupid. Both the story and plot
As a general thought I can conclude this was a complete waste of time.
Where I ask myself the question; why, oh why was this movie made? When as bad on all levels of bad that this movie is, there's just no point making it...
Moonfall (2022)
So annoyingly stupid
I knew before I started watching that this would be a no brain, just stupid fun movie.
And even with me knowing that, I did not enjoy my time watching it. Like at all!
This was one of most frustrating and annoying movies I have ever watched. It was:
- Stupid. Like not just the story, but the characters in the movie were also dumb, stupid etc.
Just an example: 'look, a gravity wave that is swallowing everything and everyone, let's get out of our jeep and watch the whole event. When it comes too close, we can just outrun it with our army jeep and they actually do just that. Smh)... jezus Christ, such moments are sooo frustrating and cringy.
- unfunny
- bad cgi at times. Unacceptable for such a movie
- full of cliches. Like every cliché of the last 50 years in cinema has been gathered and applied in this movie
- bad acting all over the place
I could go on and one , but I'll just conclude with; I (almost) never ever gave a movie a 1/10. Until now...
Murderville (2022)
Just not funny
When the main actor, Will Arnett, isn't funny then the whole concept of a comedy series kind of fails from the start.
Also, the whole thing had a kind of weird vibe.
I stopped watching after 10 minutes and have no urge to start again. Which is unfortunate as I wanted to give this a chance, as good comedy series are hard to find on Netflix these days.
Jigeum uri hakgyoneun (2022)
Enjoyable
3 episodes in, I have to say I'm enjoying it.
Yes it's not perfect at all;
- whenever someone is transforming in a zombie, people just stare and stay still. While there's enough time to take action like throw him/her out of a window or bash its skull. Rather than doing that they just watch and start running when the zombie has fully transformed. I could understand that the first time. But after the same person has seen more than 10 zombie 'transformations', and still does not take action and is surprised the zombie then launches at them, you start to wonder how stupid they actually are...
- CGI doesn't look to good when there is action involved like a zombie launching itself at someone.
Saying that, I have to admit really enjoying this show. It's well acted, well written, sometimes even original and overall it's just tons of fun.
A solid 7 for me.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
Such garbage
I'm going to be real short about this: (I won't even mention the bad acting & storytelling (which I just did)) :
If you, in 2021, where almost everything is possible digitally, can't make a movie where the cgi looks remotely real, than just don't make it!!
Enough said when the original movie of !!2002!! Looks better......
The Witcher (2019)
Just not so good
Me personally, I don't get the hype, nor the over positive comments.
I watched both seasons and am still not bothered or intrigued by it.
As a whole, there's just too much that's not working for me. E.g.:
- Often long and bad dialogues that don't really add something, or are of value
- Cgi is so & so. A lot of times, the monsters seem fake, or towns seem fake. In one scene, even the birds flying over a city looked fake.
In comparisation (this is not meant to be a starting point for discussions) : the dragon in GOT vs the 'dragons' and monsters in The Witcher are miles and miles apart. I don't know if it's a budget thing, but this is a big Netflix show so it should at least be better than it is now. At the moment it's not even comparable...
- There are a lot of annoying characters. With the bard in first place. But other closely following..
- It's just not really serious, you don't really care for persons when they die.
The bard for example, without any fighting skill, always survives every fight or situation. Even when people around him are dying and getting their faces being eaten off (literally) , he still stands there alive and kicking with his annoying (singing) voice.
- back to my point of the long dialogues: it's really boring sometimes. The fights itself are well done, and pretty brutally (that's a good thing), but way too rare. There are even episodes where it's just talking and drama and some singing, nothing else.
Which is a cause for me to not care anymore when there is a fight and a random 1 or 2 episode character dies during.
- lastly, for me, it jumps from one storyline to another way too fast and without any previous setting or build up. Making it difficult to follow sometimes.
In conclusion: is this the worst show ever, no not at all. But it also isn't a good one neither.
If a 3rd season would come, and I assume it will, I'll probably skip it or watch it in fast forward.
Halloween Kills (2021)
Bad acting and stupid behavior killed it
Just a sidenote: I don't really pay attention to the previous movies or go along in the discussions whether this movie was better than the older movies or not.
I'm just looking for an entertaining movie that's actually a decent slasher.
But the bad acting, even by the main characters, the total lack of any logic or believable scenarios and the stupid dialogues took all the fun out of it.
It didn't make sense a lot of times. Nor was it very exiting when it should have been... And oh so predictable.
There's Someone Inside Your House (2021)
Mediocre
It's OK if you're looking for some brainless little slasher full of clichés and predictable situations. But it's definitely not the baddest out there, like others would suggest..
Midnight Mass (2021)
Really disappointed
Ever since the haunting of hill house, I have high expectations whenever new work from Mike Flanagan comes out.
But where hill house was a horror drama with actual good suspense, this was oh so boring and cliché, dad I tuned out. I've finished the series, but am dissaponted.
Yes, it's well acted but full of Christian dialogue and clichés with very little horror or suspense. Even when it gets scary, it's actually not. Not once. To me, the vampire thing really killed it. Not more than a drama. Which is fine is that's what yoy like to watch. But don't announce it as a horror limited series when it's not..
F9 (2021)
Stop it
It got actually so dumb that they took the fun out of it.
Even when looking for some brainless entertainment, I find it too ridiculous and stupid to actually be able to enjoy it. Which I did in previous movies of the series.
Time to call it an end.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
What a great peace of art
This is overall a great, well made movie. Funny, great action, good acting, beautiful cinematography, amazing cgi and superb directing.
Reminded me a bit to the first avengers movie.; The style of combining action with funny lines and a good story, that felt like a genre of film.
Comparing this to the first suicide squad movie is impossible. Other than just saying that the first one was really really bad when comparing it to this one. Thanks WB to let James Gunn direct this one!
Old (2021)
I expected more
Hallo Overall I think the idea / concept is good. Give or take some strange plot twist that demand additional imagination and open mind.
However some things bothered me in this film that prevented me from having the experience I hoped for.
- it's often more funny than scary. Which is not a big deal (but actually is since the movie tries to send a serious vibe and fails)
- the acting is not that great, sometimes even really bad
- people make stupid decisions. Even in the chaos of things happening, some actions are really unexplainable or died.
Jolt (2021)
What a dumb, stupid movie
Makes no sense at all, is extremely predictable and so so full of clichés.
When they don't even bother to change the face of the stunt double (that is doing the fighting for Kate), you kind of know that they didn't really care what they were making...
I expect more from Amazon..
The Tomorrow War (2021)
Full of clichés, but enjoyable
An action packed Sci-fi movie that is full of clichés, that seems like it took I spiration from a bunch of other sci-fi movies.
That being said, if you ignore that, it's a fun movie with good cgi and good action.
The 'monsters' are well designed.
And the actors do their job quit well.
Funny note: I always have to laugh when in movies (like this one) shooting all the bullets of your automatic gun doesn't do any damage, but the handgun just afterwards does it all 🤔😄.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
It's just another saw movie
Like watching another saw movie,
which isn't a positive thing.
The way it is filmed is really annoying. All these flashy camera moves and cuts take you out of any thrill or tension there might be.
Wonder why they made this movie since the genre isn't really that popular anymore.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
Pleasently surprised
I really did not care for the first justice league movie a couple of years ago. It had bad cgi, colouring was annoying and the action scenes didn't stick.
So I had low expectations for this version.
And I have to admit that I was pleasently surprised.
I did enjoy this version. Cgi was better (although not on the level of the avengers (if a comparisation has to be made), it has a darker vibe and feels more serious.
What I did not like:
- Ben Affleck just is not a really good Batman in my opinion. He's a bit flat throughout the movie.
- a bit too much slow motion. After a while you just don't care anymore about the added value a good executed slow motion brings to a scene.
- steppenwolve's voice is really not in sync with his moving lips. That's really annoying and I don't get why. Does not seem that hard. Same goes for Desaad and the other villains.
- if you use cgi because reshooting was not possible, than just avoid the inclusion of such a scene. Ben affleck was obviously fake in the scene in his cabin in the woods in the epilogue, when talking to the Martian. Awful.
I think this movie is a clear upgrade from the first. I would recommand it to others, even if you really disliked the first version. This one is without a doubt better. The only thing I would have cut from the movie is the epilogue chapter. Did not care for that. Has no added value since there will be no sequel.
To end, could someone explain to me why aquaman always feels the need to take off his shirt before jumping into the water? Because, every time he comes out of the water, he's wearing it (again). Does not make any sense at all, but it's funny af 😄
