Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City (2012)
Another angle to Raccoon City incidence
First after playing RE2 RE3 RE4 RE5 and RE6 this game feels different. Camera angle is the same as in RE4 and RE5 and RE6. And the story. First you play most of the time villain who tries to hide evidence of the outbreak. Controls are also different. There are lot different characters to choose from and best thing is that each level you can change the character you play. Who always play as a team so that difference from most RE games. This game tries to explain what happened elsewhere compare between RE2 and RE3. There are lot of familiar characters like Leon Jill and Nicholai. But tell you the truth some plot twists didn't feel right. I felt some plots just didn't work. Like Leon or Jill.
Fighting is different compare to other Resident evil games. It's more intense and this time you actually fight not only zombies but humans too. Fighting humans was actually something I always wanted from Resident evil games in some extent. In RE games there are of course human enemies but you don't get to fight them before they turn into some kind of bio freaks. Difficulty? I felt casual and normal are too easy so if you want a challenge choose either veteran or professional.
Overall I feel this game is good extra to the Franchise. I certainly liked this better than RE6. I felt the story tried to explain too much. I also feel Raccoon City has been explored too much already and RE Franchise should move on.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
This trilogy is going into right direction
There are not so much CGI. Prequels were ruined by that along with bad acting. I liked it very much that creatures were made for real and not by CGI. I'm not going to write long review so I just list things. First good things. + Rated PG13. + old characters return + acting is good + feels more like old star wars + one surprise Game of thrones style
Bad things - feels a bit a remake of episode IV - Some characters doesn't have enough screen time - Characters can fight with a lightsaber even when not trained - Not enough background information why things are like they are
All in all I feel like this trilogy is going into right direction!
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983)
Not really an epic finale
This movie is a bit disappointment after good New Hope and Empire strikes back. This movie has at the same time one of the best moments in Star Wars(emperor Palpatine) and worst(Ewoks). I personally didn't like Jabba the Hutt. It somehow made this movie look a bit comedy. But that wasn't the main reason. Ewoks made this movie bad.
As for final battle that was disappointing too. The ground battle was terrible. Ewoks against stormtroopers. Ewoks didn't have any credibility but still Stormtroopers made to look like incompetent clowns..Ground battle was nothing like in the Empire strikes back.
As for space battle. That was disappointing too. We didn't get too see what Star destroyer could do in the battle. Actually they didn't too anything. Even the Super Star destroyer was destroyed too fast and too easily. Best scenes in the battle were Luke and Vader scenes with the emperor. But even then light saber duel was not as great as in Empire strikes back.
I hope we will get to see great space battles in Star Wars episode VII.
Company of Heroes (2013)
A war movie comedy
Well I didn't know what to expect. First the whole plot was somewhat ridiculous. Team of Americans in Ardennes find their way to Stuttgart by Nazi train and prevent Nazis to use atomic bomb.
Along the way Russian comrade joins them as well as British pilot. The Russian of course speaks fluent English although he is just a soviet sergeant. Along the way suddenly he is Polish not Russian although he introduces himself as Russian. During the mission they have to dress up as Nazis in Stuttgart but speaking English in Nazi city and telling jokes does not seem to attract any attention? As for battle. Many errors and clichés. Sniper first shoots the guy who reloads MG-42 and not one who shoots. There a weapons that was not used in ww2 and German Tiger is actually T-34(but that I can forgive). German officers use SS visor caps but tunic is Wehrmacht and NVA long coats and so on. Not to mention team of Americans kill dozens of Nazis. Main character is a superhero he can managed to kill dozens of Nazis as well as tanks. Nazis are also full of clichés and somewhat caricatures. Last 15 minutes made me even laugh. This movie tries to be Saving Private Ryan but fails big time. If you regards this as a comedy you might even like it.
Prometheus (2012)
Not as good as I hoped for
First of all the movie is visually stunning. I also liked that it was in 3D. That alone is enough for me to go and see the movie. There are lot of 3D action movies and has poor script and no good actors. This movie at least has a good director, good actors and an interesting set.
I think the idea of the movie was great. The idea that human life on Earth came to being from E.T. This separate it from sci-fi adventure movies that usually gives very little to the audience. Movie contains very important basic questions: where are we from? What is our purpose in the universe? It did gave one big surprise. Now we know more about the Engineers and what they look like.
So were did it go wrong? It wasn't very scary but that didn't bother me that much. The movie would have been interesting enough without very scary elements. Biggest problem is that the movie did not answer any questions it put to us. The movie was very interesting to the point were they went to see the alien know as The Engineer. In stead of answers there were a lot of more questions. The movie seemed to have no logic. All because they want to make a sequel. The next movie will answer all the questions. This movie hardly answers to any questions. That was really a downfall.
I also think that the character of Elizabeth Shaw(Noomi Rapace) is a bit weird. She carries a Christian cross and there are strong assumption that she is a Christian. How this fit the idea that the Engineers are creators(not God) of mankind? She is very found of them at the beginning.
All in all it seems that they wanted to make this movie less good in order to make the sequel better. I still hope they make the sequel because there is a big change it's better than this movie.
Van Helsing (2004)
One of the most awful movies made in 21th century
I'm very sorry for myself and all the others who have seen the film. It was total waste of money and time.
The plot (if there was any) was totally ridiculous and mostly it just copied ideas from other movies of the same genre. The only thing like about this movie is Hugh Jackman. The Dracula was most awful bad guy I have ever seen. It was totally ridiculous. His acting was bad and his vampires were bad actors too. It was more like comedy. And if taking as such you might like it more. The monsters didn't impress me either. It's a shame that Hollywood makes movies non-stop regardless of quality. Now I'm just waiting for worse movie than this.
Unthinkable (2010)
Pentagon would love this movie
I anticipated much of this movie. Mostly in vain. Movie length was 1h and 33min and 90% of the film there was a man who mas being tortured. It was shocking at first but boring later. It repeated itself over and over again. There wasn't even much that reminded that this movie was a thriller. Acting was mostly awful and I'm very sorry for Jackson for being in this role.
They really had some idea and really tried to make the movie work but they didn't. It seems that heroes can be violent and use any methods they see fit. You can kill few people in order to save many. But this message used in practice does not work. But the movie suggest otherwise. They could have done better movie with same idea.
The message of this film is that torture is good. Torture is right. Torture works. Torture clarifies, cuts through and captures the essence of war against terrorism. And torture mark my words not only save USA but that other malfunction corporation called Europe.
