Elvis (2022)
Okay, Not Much More
The first 13 minutes exactly are so unsettled. The constant soundtrack and the merging story lines make for a somewhat incoherent start to the movie.
After that it settles and so it begins. The scenes of euphoria at Elvis' transforming performance are very engaging, but the storyline of how quickly hooked people became to his music.
Tom Hank's accent is an atrocity that much is true. But he navigates the narration of the film pretty decently, without being remarkable.
The juxtaposition between Elvis and Black music seems to quietly tell a story of a talent that borrowed from a culture that simply could not yet be so popular on the radio as he was.
Then there is this bizzare transition to modern day rap music which was so unnecessary. The entire fluidity of the movie was lost in the 30 second sound track that didn't belong.
And after that the pace is so fast in never settles to tell a proper story. Jump jump jump. Hard to find a 10 minute passage of real cinema.
A messy film but not the worst biopic.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Chaotic Script
Yeah.... I really am struggling to describe this movie. The level of confusion is unlike anything I have ever seen in the marvel cinematic universe.
The whole script is an absolute mess. Lacking in clarity and direction. Visually pretty as always, but my what appalling story telling.
Right now, having seen this twice, I cannot properly describe the path of the plot. Disjointed and rushed and incoherent.
I am hoping this is the last Thor movie because it feels like it's been squeezed dry of any discernible quality. Ragnorok had character and quality sequence. This is an extremely poor follow up.
Disappointing.
Break Every Chain (2021)
A Nice Plot Ruined By Overbearing Sound Track
The plot had all the makings for a decent Christian film. Both the lead actor and the wife represented a good pairing for the story telling, and overall the visual cinematography is good and with some very nice shots.
But the use of music and sound in the film borders on abusive. It completely destroyed the substance of the whole movie. Unbelievable use of sound. Not one scene was allowed to be just the fluid experience of dialogue or emotion with an accompanying soundtrack.
It became so irritating to the point of infuriating.
A scene does not need to be overwhelmed with sound at every instance.
