The Red Shoes (1948)
10/10
Without a Doubt, the Best Archers Film and the Best Dance Film
21 April 2011
How do I describe what an important, entertaining, amazing, and inspiring film The Red Shoes is? Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger do a perfect job of creating one of the best loved films in history.

Essentially about a girl who wants to be a ballerina, the film turns into a film with elements of romance, thriller, horror, and, of course dance, all carefully guided into a flowing mix by the Archers. I was never bored while I watched this film and I was constantly in awe of the brilliant use of color, which stands out even more with the Criterion release.

This film also has, in my opinion, one of the best scenes of all time, by which I mean the main dance scene. Spanning twenty minutes, the scene flows so fluidly with the music and the cinematography is absolutely incredible.

Needless to say, I love this film and I highly recommend that you watch it. And guys, don't avoid it because it's a "dance movie", because it is so much more than that.

Twilight (I) (2008)
2/10
A Review from a Film Buff and not a Reader of the Books
21 April 2011
Keeping all cynicism about the popularity of the series aside, this film is honestly an extremely stupid movie. The production values are horrible (you would think that they would make the flying realistic) and the acting is nothing more than looking into each others eyes. The script is but a few throw-away love words that are meaningless and corny that, had it not been based on a bestselling book, no producer or director would have ever made.

I tried, truly, to keep an open mind, but it was hard when the script and acting were so weak. Twilight was a very, very bad movie. The only reason I gave it two stars is because the director at least tries.
