How do I describe what an important, entertaining, amazing, and inspiring film The Red Shoes is? Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger do a perfect job of creating one of the best loved films in history.
Essentially about a girl who wants to be a ballerina, the film turns into a film with elements of romance, thriller, horror, and, of course dance, all carefully guided into a flowing mix by the Archers. I was never bored while I watched this film and I was constantly in awe of the brilliant use of color, which stands out even more with the Criterion release.
This film also has, in my opinion, one of the best scenes of all time, by which I mean the main dance scene. Spanning twenty minutes, the scene flows so fluidly with the music and the cinematography is absolutely incredible.
Needless to say, I love this film and I highly recommend that you watch it. And guys, don't avoid it because it's a "dance movie", because it is so much more than that.
