La haine (1995)
Frighteningly real
The three friends meet their acquaintances on a roof top. It's a bubbly setting - folks having hotdogs, music loud and groups interacting among themselves.
Then come the police who are uncomfortable with such meet ups happening right after the day of riots.
So, a group of police insist the group to disperse, and the group who're already charged up with the environment wouldn't want that to happen.
You can sense there is palpable tension between the two sides, with the commoners eager to impose themselves on the police. The entire setting is filled with energy and dynamic, giving us a sense of fear that anything could happen there.
The Wild Bunch (1969)
Not an easy life out there
One of the sequences in the movie is when the wild bunch cross the border and stay at a mexican village. Their time was pleasant with each of them having a good time with the village accepting their visitors with kindness and to an extent, elation. The emotions they go through while moving on from the village is immensely moving, almost as if one of their own is moving on. I get a sense of feeling that for all the hurt they've gone through by their oppressors, having a bunch of people with whom they could bond naturally might have brought them closer.
Wild bunch are such gravitating figures, while always on the edge, they know how to chill when they have to.
Sweet Smell of Success (1957)
Great Movie
When his core nature was questioned, he couldn't take it. So, his response was in the only way he knows, to whip his power and satisfy his ego.
When the other one was pushed to his deepest moral boundaries, he finds some strength to not do what's wrong. But, his desire (or weakness) to earn his kind of success breaks those boundaries.
People with a moral compass in the movie are few and far between. Out of them, one of them is weak, another is innocent. There's only one character with a strong sense of morality and strength. But the movie doesn't give us a satisfaction of a peaceful ending for that character.
Maybe, power wins a lot of short term battles with morality. But, at the end at least, would the war be won by morality?
It is anyone's guess.
October Sky (1999)
good movie, this one
October sky is a movie that brings in a feeling of pursuing one's dream. it aptly shows the satisfaction if you pursue and achieve your dream. full credit should be given to the director for taking a movie of this sought. the screenplay of the movie was the major challenge and they crafted it into a nice flick. the way each and every role in the movie was characterized was brilliant. you just live in the hero's character while the movie's running. the sequences between the father and the son are brilliant. the father's character was portrayed with excellence. the cast of the movie has just embedded into the script and they did an incredible job. the background score was just perfect for the movie. the movie is worth watching and worth remembering.
