2067 (2020)
Everything but the story is good. Don't waste your time with this. I did it for you
Filming is perfect, music is beautiful, scenery and art is not bad, new actors very respectful and not too bad acting, fine.
But the story, logic, the unnecessary , inhumane and illogical drama, emotions and actions are so terrible that it overrules all the rest. So much that I give it only one star. Really a waste of money. I hope the music can still be enjoyed as soundtrack.
Don't watch this. Save your precious time for something better.
If a good writer and thinker could have fixed the story and psychology this movie would have been a jewel:
Happy to have been at your service and watched it through with disgust.
Voyagers (2021)
Badly developed "Lord of the flies" rip-off
* Plot spoiler but no ending spoilers *
This movie just shows how children (which the really are because of protection) develop into monsters if not cared for and educated and given power.
It's the old "Lord of the flies" theme, only very bad developed, just like the last season of "Games of Thrones", and no real plot except the main boring one. OK, it has some tense moments and some good immersion point and the acting is not so bad (for the most part), but nothing to brag about. If you haven't seen "Lord of the flies" yet, rather go see that movie.
Titans (2018)
Frustratingly bad
The storyline isn't true to itself.
The characters are awfully non-consistent (and I'm not talking about some of them that are meant to be, because even that fails). Adults become childish; annoying teenagers become suddenly adults without any reason but for drama or just as filling. Feels like they just put together emotional drama like from other movies, but without it making sense. No humans behave like this. Some of the good guys are killing innocent cops and guards and then some of the "good" antagonists have emotional self-doubt from just kicking ass of the real bad guys. Are you f** kidding me?
The mysteries are plain ridiculous and don't hold up.
Sometimes the scenes and their order are non sensical and break immersion.
And everyone that is hiding (good or bad) is found all the time, as if there is no safe haven and everyone can find everyone else (through technology, world cameras hacking, spy work, etc..) but then other times one is in plain sight and cannot be found and they even say they are safe now. What the....?
And then there is this weird re-occuring background resentment against vegan food or something, but really inconsistently across all characters. Feels like a frustration of the writers put in, but without adding anything and again breaking characters and the story.
The acting and the film quality is not so bad though. Not great, but pretty good. Why I kept watching until S1E8 untill all the rest got me too nerved to continue. A pitty the toddler story and characters waste the acting and filming.
A.I. Rising (2018)
Failed attempt at recreating meaningful beauty. Waste of art and music.
The writer(s) clearly didn't understand what made those movies great in the past, of which they try to recreate the moods or where influenced by, like psychology, symbolism, etc...There is very good music and art present, but there is a very clear lack of understanding why and how these things work together and how it fits with a story and the reality that outlines it, whether it's the story that develops in front of our eyes or a deeper message. None of them connect with the art.
I really feel deeply sad that these things were wasted. It felt like a baby got access to godly powers of creation, but the baby is just pushing buttons and doesn't know what it's doing because it's a baby. (And not an Odyssee 2010 baby either. Just a baby.)
On the other hand, maybe I just missed it...
The one thing i liked within the story is the admission that sex and lack thereof, can be very important for one's psychology and love concept of the protagonist. Something a lot of movies are much too snobby about.
Nanny McPhee (2005)
Maybe well intended, but typical conservative fairy tail and full of bad values.
Don't show this to your kids! Although the music sweeps you away and the story is pretty typical "princess on the white horse" with some mischief, which is pretty attractive for children and well made, it is however full of bad values for children. And because the movie is so well made for the eyes and ears of children -though a bit too simplistic for for adults- it has high potential of making your children believe and behave as if there are some people who don't deserve respect in this world and we all live in a big hiërarchy, pyramid system, where "bottom" people deserve only misery. Although the world is more or less like this, it doesn't have to be and films like this only contribute to it. Even some of the "good" people of the story are clearly put aside for the merit of the main characters. This is one of the typical old style, conservative fairy tails we need to shy away from. There are much better fantastic, more clever and contemporary fairy tails than this.
The Kingdom (2007)
Good production, feels like propaganda, but good ending
This has all the perks of a good production, acting, etc...But to me the whole movie feels like US propaganda, like an excuse for all the bad it did and still does, but I must admit that the ending gives a good message and offsets that a little bit. It's a bit more than worth watching, but don't expect greatness, especially in realistic storyline..
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
Torture!
Saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Huge disappointment! 3/10...
Feels like the good guys are from America's empire, pretending to be good, but killing every storm trooper with joy, not even when it's necessary. And all these pyramid systems (also with the good, but less obvious, like our society toady.)
And why did Han Solo had to leave Leia again? He has gotten 15 years or so to live with her and enjoy her company. Oh, this movie crept up at me, like an alien from Body Snatchers, only I noticed even when they touched my little toe and they didn't snatch anything.
Further on, not contemporary at all! Feels even more outdated than the originals! (Unless.. see childhood remark.)
And, O my! I could predict every scene so that it was painful to watch. Do they really think that dropping some contrasts in there to the originals are so smart and unexpected? (Holding me back to insult the writers//directors now. Sorry. But please go and meditate, find the force again and mend your creativities!) And when are we going to get "normal" people into cinema? I thought this would be the chance...
I wonder if the first movies were also like that. It must have been my childhood or ánd then it was maybe kind of contemporary.
Some things were so old, so American and so stupid, I would like to shout: "Wake up! It's these kind of creeping up, feel-as-normal, but totally f*ked up scenes that f*ks with our inner ethical system! ..while enjoying it."
I want my money back! (And I did! But I still feel abused.)
Adaptation. (2002)
Philosophic and light, parodical and conform, sad and humoristic and you know what? It works! Scr** film rules (but don't).
If you haven't seen this, you haven't seen a movie about itself yet, or its own creation, ..though it may all be fictionn most probably is, but realistic enough. Confused? That's the point, or is it just to amuse us, or fill our spoiled desire? This film is underlying with so many messages, philosophic, wit humoristic, even film- en screen-writing technic (yes in the movie itself) and parodical on that and back... I will have to see this one again, there must be things I missed. It's just LOADED! And I hope you all do watch it. It has been a while since I gave 10 stars. The best thing on which I laughed my socks of and really LOL'ed -literally laughed out loud and I am not that kind of guy- was that the very basic things this movie is playing a parody on, are being used non-parodically, zspecially near the end, just almost not the end itself. Breaking sweat at the end for parody lovers. But everyone should get it. For film critics, this is a MUST!!!
Supurigan (1998)
Good production and impression of good movie, but so much wrong with it for mature viewers
This movie is very good in its production and in impressing the viewer with deepness of things and mystery and tantalizing emotions and so on... just, like some other reviewers wrote, like Akira. However, there are some things so wrong with it, I could not agree less with the praise in total. For me, this movie was a waste of time. This is why: - It's sci-fi, but it doesn't apply to its own rules of reality. For example: whenever there is no solution for the good guys to win, something miraculous happens around which the story clearly put boundaries before (like sudden loss of enemy abilities without reason), just to make the good guys win. Actually not even miraculous at all, right? Clearly an example of lack of imagination or time put in the movie. - It's the typical movie where shooting goes on in all directions and everyone is shot except the main characters (good and bad), which could happen with super-strong powers, but suddenly when the main characters fight, they need to protect their faces and weak spots, some even get killed with weapons from the "weak troops" before, only now held by the hero. These sacrificial troops obviously couldn't even shoot a target with 50 to 1 men ratio... Wow, they must have hired the worst soldiers ever! Wait, maybe that was also in the plot and all planned by the bad guys? Yeah, right.). - The story and the ethics don't make any sense if you pay attention. It's as if the writers forgot how good they were and just copied their former stories, only without consistency. Well, maybe the target audience are children, but still..
The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013)
You can't just mix everything together and expect gold, you need a wise alchemist for that!
The plot doesn't make sense, timings are wrong and it's just a mixup of moments and goodies of other movies thrown together, and even that completely fails. As if the director or writer is a child that never understood anything about those goodies or good movies in general. It also has that big mistake of the good guys not caring about each other unless you are in the select group of main characters; the rest is scarified without need or murdered without any regret. And this goes even as far as a general inability to show any understanding of human relations throughout the movies. I can go on and on and on....but I won't. Just save your time and go and see something else. I still gave 2 stars for the filming and the music. Though cliché and conservative (in a film-sense), at least not as childish and clumsy (though even there a few flaws and overload appear, that maybe wouldn't be noticeable if the rest wasn't pushing your attention away).
Another Earth (2011)
Not as simple as it seems (my view) (SPOILER MARKED INSIDE)
It's not the best drama; it certainly has nothing sci-fi or scientifically clever. But this movie daringly psychologically (and spiritually) illustrates my opinion why space exploration should not be a main priority and why we, ourselves, should be a much higher priority then we make ourselves today. It might be hard to get this out of this movie because even for a lot of viewers it will be hard to understand that everyone (and I do mean him ánd her) deserve happiness, deserve to be released of the past and our negative emotions towards ourselves and each other. It probably was not the intention of the creators, I don't know and it has a lot more to it than just this. *****SPOILER SENTENCE BELOW THIS - DON'T READ; READ FURTHER AT THE NEXT STARS IF YOU DON'T WANT IT SPOILED ---> Hell, it even turns out happy ending without release of the past (or at least the easiest suggested ending), <<------ *************** ...but this (my own?) "ourselves before space" is why I gave it a 9/10!
In other words, if you don't have a lot of free and clear mind, leave this one for a better time! :-)
Your Sister's Sister (2011)
Talk movie - watch when to watch
This is a talk movie where there's almost only talking in the movie. I would rate it a 5 or 6, but that's because I saw it when I was not in the mood for a lot of talking, no concentration, not right mind-set. When I would've been, I know I would like this movie much better (hence the 8). I don't give it higher than that because it's a bit over-dramatized and it doesn't have new movie elements. I am someone who really needs some unseen creativity in a movie. Also, sometimes the acting is a bit, well..not good. But somehow I wonder if that's not the director's fault for not letting these scenes be re-acted than the actors' inability, because the acting is sometimes very realistic, probably even real-life-like, uncommon in other movies!
Planetes (2003)
Unique!
I thought I'd seen and read too many stories and nothing special would move me in this special way anymore. I was wrong!
I'll skip what other reviewers already told and would like to add that in the philosophy- or humanity-part of it all, it's very seldom that left and right, or good and evil, or whatever ying and yang you have are so overlapping, so vague as in this story. The personal goals, experience and decisions from all sides, just make sense. So which side is the good side? This is how reality is. And I won't spoil it, but one highlight to this for me was near the end of it, where the anime has also a very nice resolution* between the dilemma "elite space exploration and solving things on earth first".
* Although I wouldn't really call it an "overall" resolution -are there even ever any, also in real life?-, let's call it "progress" but it sure makes an example to some of the world leaders, rebels, freedom fighters, ego-wolfs, troubled souls and what have you, including to myself.
Thanks to all the people involved in making this unique and motivating space flower!
Mad World (2010)
Not pimped up. --Spoiler marked in here--
I thought in the beginning that this was going to be a kind of B-movie. Bad actors, bad filming, bad directing.. but I kept watching because a little voice in my head said "Maybe I should watch a bit more; I am too used to pimped up movies where everything is fancy and neat with perfect language and non-erroneous conversations. Real life isn't scripted." It turns out to be a worthwhile movie, if you can set your used-to-pimped-up-movie-life expectancy a bit aside. I know from experience bad stuff happens to some of young people while nobody defends them, even spit on them further without realizing it or being afraid from social misfitting (and often they don't realize it). So, I think it was a wise choice not to take too famous actors and pimping everything up. I think it's good that not everything is like a script-life, where "f***" and "s***" (literally) comes up. There still is a bit of pimping up though and I don't know if that's good or bad until I would see it otherwise, but well... ****SPOILER ALERT******SPOILER FROM HERE ON**** Unfortunately the story still feels a bit "forced". But the worst part of this movie, I find that there are a bit too many conform-stupid-people (forgive my language inability) and a bit too conform/stupid. They could have gotten the same effect with a bit smarter to even smart people -smart people also suppress things and can be very conformistic- but well it's closer to reality than most of these kind of movies are. I am also glad for a non-happy ending! You know why? Because THIS S*** IS STILL HAPPENING!
Hanna (2011)
Good footage, but not realistic.
This is the kind of movie that bends reality in all kind of ways and doesn't meet its own story in that aspect. Not that I dislike fantasy, but in this kind of CIA movie (combined with some hot science topic of today which I won't spoil) a realistic setting is part of the story (or should be). So, if you are someone that can't ignore all that and can't welcome a maybe some-necessary-own-added illusion to the story, you will probably be like this during the whole thing: "OMG, and this is so ridiculous, and that is so not realistic, and that is so stretched and what the ..euh..hel?" .
On the other hand, because of the good footage, nice faces, various and sometimes beautiful environments and some variation in characters, this just makes it worthwhile to watch.
Sarai-ya goyô (2010)
Apart, realistic, romantic, mysterious
A very skilled, but lonely and (too) nice, but clumsy swordsman keeps losing his job until he meets the leader of the "Five Leaves". But there is much hidden from the past of this what-seems-to-be a quiet thief, it seems. And he is not the only one. A plot full of secrets uncovered in different kind-of-hero thievery stories, but with a remaining sense of mystery and doubt. (Just as life usually is?) Are these group of people heroes or lousy thieves, or maybe just people trying to survive? I think everyone watching it would think different. ----- This is not an action movie at all, rather kind of zen with a touch of mischief and melancholy, mixed with a note that would say "the sun will rise again tomorrow" . ----- The drawings and animations are fluid and artistic, rather impressionistic than colored "between the lines". Together with the mostly calm music, this series is a piece of brilliance!
Skyline (2010)
Surprisingly not that bad
I had expected this to be a typical "Hollywood kind of movie" with clichés, typical (happy) endings, incredible characters, conformist storyline and situations, etc.. And though it dóes contain a lot of these unfortunate elements, there are some things that were surprisingly good, worth to check it out at least! Here are some examples: -The extraterrestials have a lot of copied material from other movies, bút are also very unique in some aspects (and I am not only talking about their visual appearance; there are one or two unique things about their whole existence; very nice envisioned!). -The special effects are very "typical", but sometimes so realistic and rare. -The story is quite "typic-heroic" and "perfect-livish", but sometimes there are scenes that are quite the opposite, that very clearly and non-conformingly illustrate the dark side and huge weaknesses of people (in stress). -I loved the ending! (Keep watching a short while after the credits if you wish to see some more of the ending via still images, though it made the whole ending less good for me.)
