Superman Returns (2006)
Good, but not great (spoilers)
Seeing the preview made me think that the movie would be a let down because it would be all action and no substance or emotional attachment. I came out of it thinking the exact opposite.
I will start off by saying my biggest problem was that superman didn't really do much. Sure he saved people from a crashing plane (best part), and somehow lifted up the krypton island, but I expected to see him fight crime or do something cooler than just stare at the sky (which he often does).. After that beginning, I was ready to be blown away. Where was the action? I'll tell you- it's saved for Spiderman 3. I do like how Routh portrayed superman, and I really felt for him in certain situations. The emotional parts were very well done, but there was a lack of excitement. Once the story gets rolling, the movie does get a lot better, but still never reached it's pinnacle.
The length is no problem, and the acting was pretty good, but I expected Spacey to be great. When I heard he was Lex I thought he would excel, but he wasn't as sinister as I would have liked, and he seemed corny at times. He didn't seem like a very imposing villain.
It was an enjoyable movie, and I bet it would be amazing on IMAX, but I would have given it 10 stars and would have seen in many times if it had more flair and action and had blown me away like I expected. Brian Singer, unlike in XMEN 1 & 2 in which I loved, let me down with this potentially amazing flick.
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
Star Wars review (spoiler)
I had high expectations, and i was thus disappointed, but it wasn't too bad. My main gripe is that EVERYTHING WAS DIGITAL... well almost... Queen Amadala's chamber was all digital, most of the interior of the buildings were, all the exterior worlds were, etc. Same for C3PO, R2D2, and all the aliens and ships! Call me crazy, but I am in favor seeing real actors playing stormtroopers as opposed to some digital representation that looks awful when they show a human head! I loved the lightsaber fights, and the music was great as always. They have some memorable lines, but the main spaceship battle (the opening) didn't have the same engaging feeling as those of previous movies, and they used lines that are from the other movies as well. Every movie it seems Lucas made it more digital, starting with the Special Editions of the original three. They barely even need a director, considering most of the work was done via computer... It feels fake, and i don't feel like i'm part of the star wars universe like i did in the others. This movie is saved by the amazing lightsaber battles, the great visuals (when needed), and the superb acting by the few human actors (and yoda). If this wasn't a Star Wars movie, i'd give it a much lower rating. Another thing that i liked was the portrayal of the good vs evil, light vs dark side- Anakin's conversion was very engaging, and even though i knew what would happen, i found myself on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens. This movie and it's plot are a great adventure, and even though the digital approach hurts the movie, it is still a good movie that i will see again.. i recommend it, despite certain reasons, and i believe that the series went out on a high note, b/c this one was better than 1 and 2. 8/10
I'm with Busey (2003)
Strangely funny
The reactions of Adam De La Pena to Gary Busey's "antics" are priceless! This show is hilarious because of Busey's weird "ideas" throughout each show. If you liked Dumb and Dumber, you will like this show! I think that the idea of "no-script" is great, it works. I highly enjoy this show, especially the one were Busey tries to help Adam with his fears! I recommend it to anyone who likes comedy!
Meet the Parents (2000)
Great Movie
This is a hilarious movie!! Ben Stiller is so funny, and so is Deniro!!The dinner scene is great! I can't believe anyone could hate this movie!! Owen Wilson is also great as Kevin, Pam's old boyfriend. This movie has a great cast, great plot, is very funny, and is an overall great movie! 10 of 10 stars!!
Crank Yankers (2002)
Nothing bad about show
Xarathos:
Crank Yankers is a hilarious show most of the time, and they don't always use "racial slurs", or stuff like that to make you laugh. (ie: the Karl Malone stuff, the Birchum stuff, etc.) And if it was against the law, hten the show wouldn't still be running. Prank calls aren't against the law, unless they are verbally assaulting the victim, or are false alarms to police stations, etc. And why are you referring to SNL? That is a respected show, and one of the greatest shows of all time. And the Chappelle's Show is very funny. Yes, it might be full of racial slurs, etc., but he's making fun of himself, which is funny. I always watch that show, along with South Park, SNL, Crank Yankers, etc. I don't see how you want to punch Dave Chappelle, I mean, he never does anything worse than what's on BET's Comic View! They are the few great sketch comedy show's that are still out there! And see how you commented on Family Guy, which was also a great show, it was a more adult Simpsons, and there's nothing wrong with that!
