The Last of Us: Endure and Survive (2023)
Massive pay off and masterclass in execution
Last weeks shorter episode delivers for E5. They didn't waste time in delivering a exceptionally paced hour of utter delight for the gamers with plenty of references and for the viewers more world builder. Henry and sams story was woven through and linked superbly into this treat.
The final 30min is pure perfection and adrenaline filled terror. Directing was on point, acting was superb. The visuals and CGI was beautiful. And the horror, oh my!
Worth watching this episode several times, perhaps even watching the final 20min at least 3 times to watch the carnage unfold. We knew something was under the ground, and oh boy was there something!
The Last of Us: Part II (2020)
Not a master piece. Not a bomb. But it's good
*SPOILERS*
While some are review bombing this game, other are also giving it 10/10.
It's certainly not a bad game, but it most certainly isn't a masterpiece and worthy of a 10/10.
I'm a huge fan of TLUO. I've personally played the first game over 20 times since it's release. While I'm not a hardcore gamer who plays every AAA game, I almost never play online games, I have however been playing video games since the original Nintendo and Atari. It's rare for me to get excited about a game, but for some reason the first really stuck with with. Naturally my hype for this game was beyond anything I've ever waited for.
Right out the gates we're thrown back into the world. It's beautiful and rich with detail. Then around 2-3 hours into the game we're hit with a huge death. This personally didn't bother me they made a choice to kill Joel, but just seemed like we could've had more in world time with him before this event.
The best scene are unfortunately in flash backs with Joel & Ellie. I found myself with a huge smile on my face whenever they we're together, then I remembered why I loved this world and game, but then we're thrown in Abby's shoes and I really didn't want it.
The bday scene at the museum was such a pleasure and definitely the best part of the whole game.
Although I didn't mind Ellie going on her quest, I wasn't that invested in Abby's back story or her. Abby time line definitely had the best set pieces, and I think this was an attempt by NG to make us feel for her, but in the end I really just wanted Ellie and Joel.
I didn't however find myself at one point after Abby kills Jesse and seemly kills Tommy, then runs after Ellie to kill her- I found myself in shock and not wanting to pursue Ellie. I stood there and got killed by Ellie, and I was somewhat satisfied by that. This game shouldn't make you give up like that. Luckily Tommy survives; as we find out later.
I personally didn't have a problem with the ending. It was incredibly sad, and I knew that was the point of the whole thing.
I just wish they had of made some decisions differently.
Besides all that, I did enjoy my time with this game.
Currently on my 2nd play through to soak it all in a little more.
