Seth Meyers: Lobby Baby (2019)
Funny, but visually hard to watch
Seth is a funny observational comic. I enjoyed seeing him out from behind a desk, but I think he could have been just as funny without resorting to the F-bombs dropped throughout the routine.
I had a hard time watching it due to the camera work.
If I could talk to the director personally, I would slap him for his choice of incredibly loose camera shots.
It seemed that two of the cameras were below stage level, and the operators had no clue how to properly frame a shot. Way too much headroom and "empty space". The "Rule of Thirds" does NOT apply in television.
Vamps (2012)
Can Hollywood Leave Politics OUT Of Comedies?
I enjoyed this movie up until it went off on a tangent about the NSA and the current administration as well as the use of technology (iPads, Facebook, etc.).
I felt that this movie was not the time or place to tackle such subjects. It was meant to be a lighthearted comedy - which it was up until that point. To me, it seemed to throw off the "funny", and just did not fit with the theme of the movie.
I have enjoyed Amy Heckerling's work since the days of Fast Times At Ridgemont High (best HS movie EVER!), and was sorely disappointed when this cutesy, feel-good comedy veered from the script to launch a not-so- thinly-veiled attack on our government. Sure, not everyone agrees with what's happening in today's world, but a comedy about two hot vampire chicks is NOT the platform to express your opinions. Keep to the subject at hand, make us laugh and forget about life for a while.
