Not quite as good as the French version (shown on The Twilight Zone.)
29 May 2024
The French version, which won an Oscar, and was also shown as a half hour episode of the twilight zone, captures our attention better. In that one There is virtually no dialogue, only one folk song, sung in English.. this version has the protagonist, narrating, and talk is cheap. Somehow the brilliant ending is muted in this version.

This Hitchcock episode is very much worth watching, if only to see the differences. The great Juano Hernandez makes an appearance which adds a lot. And James Coburn is quite effective in an early role. Can't say a whole lot for hero Ronald Howard - imho he is stiff and not sympathetic.

Well done!
23 April 2024
Everything the other reviewers have said is true, good and bad! Fun to watch! I love watching these reruns! Great music, even if repetitive! Good-to-great acting, always! Needlessly complicated, but always surprises! What's the point of watching TV if it always goes the way you think it should? I loved the flashlight projection on the smoke!!! O, bother! I'm done, but I need more to be able to save this. Speaking of the music, Lalo Shifrin's theme is absolutely classic! I knew the movies would not be respectful of the source material when I heard the shared-off 4/4 of that classic 5/4 time! I'm done now, please let me save it and go! No? Epic! But inaccurate!
3 June 2023
Epic! But inaccurate! Inaccuracies are detailed in Wikipedia. I enjoyed it, but I would rather see something like the recent (early 2020's) war movies like "1918" and "All Quiet on the Western Front " for real accuracy.

Good episode, and a great score!
26 May 2023
Excellent episode with good actors, including Ray Milland and a variety of character actors. Lovely Claire Griswold is the protagonist, eventually. And, to top it all off, the unmistakable music of Bernard Herrmann, the greatest movie composer, ever!

Deliverance (1972)

ALL of the positive reviews are true,BUT:
4 February 2023
All of the good reviews of this movie are quite valid, but I have one particular problem with it. Before I get into that, I'll say that I avoided watching this movie for many years, for a couple of reasons. I heard some comedian make fun of Ned Beatty's famous rape scene, and I hated to see that. I got to meet Ned when he was at actors theater, in Louisville. I had seen him do such a beautiful performance in death of a salesman (as the salesman), that I went back and saw it a second time. And later got a chance to talk to him. So I have followed his career closely , except for this movie. I had seen just the banjo, guitar, duet scene, many years ago on TV, and I thought the banjo boy was so creepy, I didn't want to see anymore at the time. But, tonight it was on Turner and I watched the whole thing, fast forwarding through the guitar banjo duet. And I loved it! Except for one huge problem: the Southern accents by these Hollywood actors are terrible! I heard an explanation of this some years back: there's one guy who's been teaching Southern accents to movie stars, and he teaches them wrong! He teaches the Charleston, South Carolina, accent as being the right one for the whole south. That's the one where they drop the R's , like "Cone heah! Ya heah me, gull?!" They are terribly distracting for someone who has an ear out for it!

The great Jean Arthur!
4 September 2022
The great Jean Arthur! A real treat to see her here, after several years out of the acting business. She made so many great movies! And she turns in a very moving performance here, showing her trademark vulnerability. Scott Richards, playing her criminal son, is rather one dimensional. Good episode!

There is a BUG on this site that tells me I haven't reached 600 characters, so my review is too short. So, I'm just going to repeat the above and hope that it works this time!

Episode features a great score!
31 August 2022
Besides the solid story and fine acting in this episode,Composer Leon Klatzkin Should be given credit for a fine, almost avant-garde score. The percussion writing in the opening segment is truly markable! Leon Klatzkin did quite a number of gunsmoke episodes, always a craftsman producing the right mood needed for whatever's going on on the screen. Gunsmoke is notable for generally very fine scores! Now, if I could just get the robot in charge here to stop telling me that my review is too short, that I have not reached 600 characters, I could save this review and perhaps somebody could read it someday!

Entertaining and engaging film!
16 August 2022
Entertaining and engaging film! Great cast, all of Home exhibit crate acting chops. Story centers in, eventually, on a bordello in New Orleans, run by the Madam played by Barbara Stanwyck. Features some beautiful women (Jane Fonda, Anne Baxter, Joanna Moore, and Capucine) most of whom fall for the great Laurence Harvey. Very racy plot for 1972! Gritty!!! Fabulous opening and closing titles by the always great Sail Bass. Highly recommended!

Great show! Please show it somewhere !!!

Great show! Please show it somewhere !!! It's a hoot!!!

Shows a world where the women are in charge. Future WKRP manager Gary Sandy is a male bimbo, advancing through corporate rankings because of his looks (and big chest!). I loved it, and have wanted to see it ever since (now that streaming and DVRs make it possible to see every episode of a favorite show.)

I have a very different memory of the show
20 December 2021
Than do others. I was only 10, but precocious and very up on TV. I loved Jack Paar, staying up whenever possible to see it. When he left The Tonight Show there was an extended time of searching for a new host. I recall thinking that "The Jerry Lewis Show" seemed like his tryout for "Tonight" (even though on a different network). Anyway my sisters and I laughed uproariously at this show! And I recall reading that NBC wanted Jerry for "Tonight" but they could not come to terms. (I was disappointed with the choice of Carson. Grew to like it eventually, but thought he got boring when he went to LA. Was very happy when Paar got a prime time show. ). Was I this wrong about Jerry's show?

Provocative parody of Oprah's interview with Michael Jackson, And the resulting furor and extreme importance it was given. Extremely well done!
