Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver (2024)
Low scoregiver
Argh, I've wasted four and a quarter hours on this drabble. No comparison to the $160m wasted on a college boy's drunken scribbles, hey Zachy boy?!
It's just bad. If you haven't yet committed to watching it with the hope of it getting better and kicking in to gear...don't! Save your time and go do something else better instead. Four and a quarter hours, just think of all the funky things you could do with that time. Go. Do that instead.
There is definitely potential for rebel moon, it just has not been delivered, despite a good budget, cast, and visuals. Unfortunately, this seems to be a case of the parts not making a whole - the missing piece is the storyline.
Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
Pretty empty
Great visuals, good cast, a lot of potential... however the delivered result was way of the mark.
The story is weak, regurgitated from a thousand other sci-fi films, and thrown together with no cohesion whatsoever.
I waited, keenly, for a hook to bring me in, the point where the story clicked and and really kicked on...it never happened, unfortunately.
The potential is definitely there, with a strong cast and excellent visuals to boot. Mr Snyder just seems to have forgotten the glue to stick it all together.
Maybe the second installment will miraculously tie everything together and show my review to be a premature slight on a cult classic...spoiler, it doesn't!
Jimmy Carr: Natural Born Killer (2024)
Must do better
I'm generally a fan of Jimmy Carr but Natural Born Killer is just awful. It reeks of a desperation to be 'edgy' and puts more focus on seeking to offend than it does to be funny.
Don't get me wrong, there are funny moments, but they are too few and far between to rescue the performance.
The number of times that he seemingly had to prompt the audience to laugh was embarrassing. I really wanted to enjoy the show and I fought through the want to turn off after 15 minutes...how I now wish I'd have taken that option...
Jimmy seems to have become the offensive, out of touch, creepy uncle who only seems able to entertain himself. Sad & disappointing.
