Immaculate (2024)
Pregnant horror
Yes it's a pregnancy/body horror movie, not remotely supernatural or religious, well I guess a tad religious. I actually liked Sweeny in this movie, it's a slow burn but gets into gore swing in the final act. I'm not buying how they got the DNA however, that kinda fell flat and almost threw the movie off for me personally. I think I was hyping for an antichrist baby so I will have to wait for the new omen movie coming out soonish. The overall feel was cult like, isolating, made me think if I was pregnant with an unknown what would I actually do? This movie was like if Rosemary turned in a raging mother and chopped up the building Satan worshipping inhabitants. Nice to see an unusual turn of events regarding a pregnant victim of a cult movie. No screaming/fainting ninnies in this nunnery.
The Exorcist: Believer (2023)
Too many characters
I think the main problem with the story was there were too many characters so no real attachment or development of characters. I can see the idea of two girls being possessed comes across as exciting but unfortunately it lost the plot as there were too many view points and the girls story kind of got swept to the side. If they had of stuck with Angela and her dad it may have been a more cohesive and interesting story. Not enough scare factor, I was a little bored towards the end. The idea of people are the power of exorcisms was also a great idea but again too many in the final exorcism, a nun that never was, a preacher, a voodoo priestess and a Catholic priest (still not enough apparently).
The flashes of the demons in the end climax however were great and I would love to see some still images of them, so I will be looking for those. Also when K got taken down the flash of the demon then also caught my attention.
I think there were too many hands trying to stir the pot in this movie and the result was a bloated cast and a bloated story. See how Blumhouse goes with the next two movies as they are contracted to a trilogy.
The Pope's Exorcist (2023)
Vomits in Catholic propaganda
I have watched a lot of horror movies and this "horror" movie may well be the bottom of the barrel. Editing and sound was choppy and not well done, the story and visuals darting from scene to another. Russel must have owed a big debt to Satan this star in this atrocity, his character was likeable but as he vocalised his dismay in not seeing the abuse a girl suffered by the hands of the Vatican or that *gasp* the Spanish Inquisition was actually the devils fault due to a the main man being possessed. The movie turned into a Catholic self serving, guilt ridden confession can of worms. This movie had soooo much potential but it fell short in so many ways, production, story, script and scares. There wasn't any scares. A bit of fun but that's about it.
The Unforgivable (2021)
Trauma on film
Sandra does a fantastic job of portraying grief and trauma. It never does let go. Some parts are a little on the nose but overall a great film. Are our prices every really paid and life debts ever cleared? A moral dilemma for all involved.
Vivo (2021)
Music of the heart
I put this on for my toddler thinking it was another cutesy movie. Ah no. It was amazing. Heart felt. A story of undeclared love. Watch it.
Tabula Rasa (2017)
Slow burn mind implode
Have never written a review before but this show deserves to be watched! It's a slow burner yes, but what a pay off in the end. Worth the viewing time. If you have watched a lot of horror/thriller/mystery you will appreciate it. The pyro guy is fun to watch along with the other 'nuts' of the asylum ward. Everyone plays their part well.
