Freaky Friday (2003)
Better than one, not as good as another
By all means, this was much better than the 1995 TV one, but I can't say I liked it quite as good as the 1975 one. Sure it was cute, and Lindsay Lohan, Jamie Lee Curtis, Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray (tee hee), and Ryan Malgrini all did a good job, but it really didn't seem to follow the plot line of the book. Oh, well. I can't be too picky, I might just switch places with the director! (Ok, you can stop laughing now ~_~)
Election (1999)
Good actors, bad script
Matthew Broderick has always been one of my favorite actors. So when I saw the movie case for Election, I thought, it can't be that bad if it's got Matthew. It wasn't THAT bad, but it wasn't good either. It was just okay. He plays a teacher who teaches about morals and ethics but has some morality problems of his own. He might say the f-word 1 too many times, and it just ain't that funny. But all in all, a pretty okay job. Now onto Reese Witherspoon. Legally Blonde. Usually what you think of when you think of Reese. There's a good reason for that. She wasn't that great in this movie. She played an annoying, snobby overachiever, and that just didn't fit her very well. F***k me, Mr. McAllister? Please! She's a student, for godsakes! Matthew and Reese are those people who do really well if they're given better material, or so it shows in this movie. They don't really make the best pair.
Godzilla (1998)
Not what I expected
This movie was good, but it wasn't exactly one of those "Aah,run for your life" movies that I thought it would be. Matthew Broderick played a good lead as Nick Tatapoulous, though. The whole more than 12 eggs thing was pretty predictable. The movie wasn't bad, though. I guess I just might be a little picky.
A Child's Wish (1997)
Tearjerker
This movie was beautiful. I remember the first time I saw this movie I was 12 and I cried so much. It's a great movie, but because it's so thematic, I really wouldn't recommend it for children.A young girl Cancer-battling her way through life shows how much you should value life in case you lose it completely.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
Brilliant
This movie was brilliant, genius, wonderful, indescribably good. Orlando Bloom was absolutely PERFECT, as well as Johnny Depp and Geoferry Rush. The movie's sci-fi/historical combination served as a wonderful targeting to people of different tastes. This movie also has it's humor and romance, and adventure, of course, plenty of adventure. Overall, a twisted, BrIlLiAnT theme of its own.
Little Shop of Horrors (1986)
Way 2 fairy-tale
This movie is pretty good. The actual broadway play or the original 1960 film was probably better, but this had its own original twist to it. But all the actors in there fit their parts and sang well. The ending was way too fairy-tale to me, where in the broadway and other movie everyone gets eaten. I guess they did well with what they got.
Never Been Kissed (1999)
A Total Cliche
This movie was okay, but it was bacsically just like all the other movies. Drew Barrymoore could have definately turned to a more appealing role, after all her previous awesome performances. In general, I really didn't get why it was made if every other movie is pretty much like this one.
Now and Then (1995)
Perfect
This is a great movie, following Young Roberta through her years of "Girls can't play softball!" Christina Ricci is perfect. There could not have been a better Roberta. Roberta reminds me of her at the age of 12, having a tough shell and a soft inside.
My Girl (1991)
Precious
Anna Chlumsky makes her debut as young Vada Sultenfuss, a precious little tomboy obsessed with death. Portraying the part of Vada perfectly is probably what most of us remember her for. Jamie Lee Curtis and Dan Akyroyd reunite after years between this and Trading Places, and once again, make a flawless pair. Everyone was so into the part, and this drama/comedy/family film is just GREAT.
Shrek (2001)
Hilarious and Cute
This movie is beyond adorable. This movie is a spoof on fairy tales, a feel-good movie, a fun movie to memorize, a movie that everyone would enjoy (though generally guided toward teen audiences)and basically just a movie you'll want to watch over and over again.
Mike Myers, famous for Austin Powers, is making a comic comeback as a lovable, hatable Ogre who's life is turned upside down when he runs into a strange and talkative donkey (Wonderfully and naturally portrayed by Eddie Murphy) Set on a quest assigned by the great Lord Farquad (Hilariously portrayed by John Lithgow) to rescue Princess Fiona (adorably portrayed by Cameron Diaz) from a tower guarded by a flirty GIRL dragon.
I would reccommened this to anyone, especially those who like to make fun of fairy tales. This is the perfect topping.
The Great Outdoors (1988)
The Excellent Outdoors
You know when you see a movie as a kid and still watch it as a 23-year old? This is one of those movies that can reach every age level as a hilarious film that should never be overlooked.
John Candy, playing the laid-back, nice-guy of the gang, with his middle class family, decides to go to a cabin in Northern Indiana to enjoy the scenery. But when Dan Akyroyd, the fun-loving rich tycoon arrives, it's all Roman, Roman, Roman! From the first water-skiing insident to the battling of the bear, John and Dan really set up the perfect comedic pair. These two guys seperate: Good. These two guys together: Amazing. See it.
Beetlejuice (1988)
Weird but in a Good Way
This movie has its own quirk and charm, different from any movie I've ever seen before. This is definately a movie to see when you just want to sit on the couch and eat popcorn. Tim Burton's genius once again glows in this unusually comedy of the confusion of the afterlife. See it. It's a guarrentee you'll have a wonderful Day-O!
Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
Danke Shon, John Hughes
Danke Shon, Merci Beaucoup, Muchoes Gracais, no matter now you say it, you gotta give John Hughes credit for this one, picking the perfect cast, screenwriter, and all-around atmosphere for the movie. Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick is a devishly-handsome young man who decides to play hookey one day to enjoy all the sights of Chicago bringing his best friend (Alan Ruck) and his girlfried (Mia Sara). Together, they go through the lessons of love and milage loss. Perfect movie.
