Siempre Bruja (2019)
Great Old Skool Witchy Vibes
This show caught me off guard as I was not expecting it to be so good for a new witchy show, but it has old skool witchy vibes kind of like Charmed from back in the 90's but different and in Spanish! The way the character stories intertwine is genius and the use of herbs, crystals, old skool witchy magic is what I'm here for! There is so much detail in every scene and there are so many locations, it's by an ocean at times - beautiful. There is a part about slavery but they address it further in the second season - as I would not cancel this at all if you hadn't taken everything into context - as Carmen is a witch with her own mind/friends/life - because if you do skip it you'll be missing out big time and will just be stuck watching the lesser/crappy/new wave witchy shows. I cannot wait till season 3!!! This is the perfect series to watch - especially in October.
The Clovehitch Killer (2018)
Great Twists/The Trailer Doesn't Give Everything Away
This film is definitely worth the watch - don't think that just because you've seen the trailer that you've 'seen it all'. This story was so cleverly written and keeps you wondering what new clue will be unturned or covered up. The flashback segments that explain the crazy twists in the plot will have you going "I can't believe..." I would say that similar films to this that come to mind are Summer of 84' or Disturbia.
Jedi Junkies (2010)
The Farce is Strong
This "documentary" is scary, not in a good way. It's like this, say you're a big fan of something in the high school days and that incessantly annoying kid in class starts wearing the t-shirts, asking you repetitive questions about the thing, blurting out lines randomly, etc. When things are obvious, and you know that he/she is just doing it to try to be your friend or for an even deeper/darker motivation that makes you cringe. So, yeah, this "documentary" is kind of like that. You feel like abandoning the love you have for the thing because you can't escape the weirdos ruining it for you. It is a sad thing. It's not the embodiment of "the force" but "the farce".This program also displays a few of those types of individuals who you know just buy a ton of whatever they are a "fan of" just to show it all in excess later. It's like those kids who shove everything "geek" they own under-the-sun into one corner of their rooms just to use it as a backdrop for a YouTube video. Somebody should make a parody of it, yet it already is one. Create a parody of a parody then. Jedi Junkies is lazy and weird. Plus it has Olivia M. in it saying something that does not make sense that does not help the piece backtrack out of anything that made you cringe at previously. For the folks out there who are fans of bad movies and lazy weirdness, go for it. I rated this piece a 2 out of 10 because I liked seeing some of the different retro Star Wars toys, but I dislike Ed Sanchez for various reasons.
Kimssi pyoryugi (2009)
Favorite Castaway Film EVER!
Wow, this film was such a surprise from the moment I turned it on till the end. Clever cinematography and transition scenes. I couldn't wait to see would happen at every moment. It's super quirky and a bit suspenseful at times. All of the quirkiness is definitely justified to move the storyline and moves the character relations which is what I like best because I'm picky about when films do quirky stuff but it doesn't move anything.
There's many castaway and stranded themed films out there but this one is my personal favorite. It's about humanity, hope, alienation, things one may take for granted, economy, and freedom. I really felt for the characters when things were taken away or when they have a rough time and it makes you think about how the system is setup to have a life with credit cards, bills, clothes and such.
I tell my friends about this film all the time. It's definitely a little shiny pearl waiting to be discovered in the sea of castaways.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)
Absolutely Loved This
This was an amazing adventure. While Mitty is a sort of reserved kinda guy he's delightfully quirky and boy does he have a colorful imagination! The transition fantasy scenes were jam packed with oodles of stylistic verve and oh my the nostalgic moments! You'll be reminded of old toys you used to love to play with. The acting was great. There weren't any characters I wish weren't in it and I didn't feel like any of the characters fell short. Pacing was great - Run time didn't feel too short or too long.
I can't wait to watch it all over again! My favorite film of 2013 and my now favorite Ben Stiller film. Enjoy the Mittyesque moments when you can. :)
Park Avenue: Money, Power and the American Dream (2012)
Tells it like it is. Eye opening/Mind opening
I came across the documentary on good old Netflix. A great rainy day documentary turned on the light in my mind once again to research more....about economy, the psychological effects of consumerism/class/rank on certain people, inflation, the justice system, women's rights etc. That's when you know a documentary is good--It encourages you to want to dig for the truth even more than before.
I've wondered many times: Why is our world set up like it is? What does it mean to be a human being? Where's the spiritual/soul growth in this economic cut-throat kind of game? This documentary gives you a glimpse of the kind of tactics/warfare certain political figures will pull to keep this economic war going. I wish this documentary was longer and went into further psychological realms and that's kind of what sparks you to do independent research afterward. It's a really great starter and introduction to life/economic/education problems in America.
This war on happiness/our way of life is corrupted by relentless inequality/unjust players and financial discrimination and it will never end until the embers of greed have cooled...
Remember this, "After the game, the king and the pawn go into the same box."
The Maladjusted (2013)
Wow, Genuine Hilariousness/Necessary characters and Actions (Hard to find these days.)
You know how sometimes you watch a film (Could be an Indie or Hollywood film) and they have comedy/humor that almost in a way tries to tell You (the audience) what's "funny" and what's not...Well, this film doesn't have to tell you what's humorous. I genuinely cracked up tons of times. The character development is very good. The dialog, everything each character said was necessary to the story/relevant.
The Maladjusted was way better summer comedy that I've seen this year even compared to a couple recent Hollywood "comedies" that I felt just relied on big names/cheap humor that wasn't really humorous to get seats filled. This one has genuinely great actors and a story everyone can follow.
Def check it out.
