Dear Evan Hansen (2021)
I don't get the negative reviews
Never mind the age of the main character - it's the plot that carries this.
I don't like musicals. I hate them, in fact. The plot is what drew me to this one. And there wasn't *nearly* as much singing in Dear Evan Hansen as there is in at least 90% of all other musicals.
That said, as someone who has battled suicidal ideation, depression, isolation, social anxiety, and so much more, I identified with the weight Evan carried & even Connor. Had I gone through with unaliving myself, I'm absolutely certain my family wouldn't have understood &, at times, wouldn't have known how I really felt about them. During those times, if I'd gotten even the tiniest amount of what I felt like I needed to feel okay, I might've done everything I could to hang onto it, too.
If you don't understand these feelings and can't get past the age of a couple of the actors as a result - I'm happy for you. For the rest of us, there is this movie & others like it.
Blood Fest (2018)
Completely underrated!
Classic horror tropes combined with gore, violence, a *little* suspense, and hilarity. No idea why it's gotten such bad reviews. This movie is one of my new favorites
Empire: Home Is on the Way (2020)
Nope
What about all the teasers for the last year about Lucius mourning over a coffin & saying "a father shouldn't have to bury his own child"..? There was NONE of that, no closure to anything. Just in this episode, the time jumps were hard to keep up with.
Very rushed & they obviously tried to wrap up everything in this episode. This was not the way this series should've ended, not in my opinion as someone who has watched since day 1. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is for the music.
