Dark....edgy....but hopeful
7 September 2003
I watched this film in a theater that specialized in indie films. It's the first time I've seen that place packed in QUITE a long time. And there was already a line to see the next showing of it when I exited.

I thought the camera work fit the spirit of the film - even if it was a little tough getting used to at first.

Holly Hunter was awesome as "Mel" and I'm usually not a big fan of her work. But she completely aced this role. Considering the age difference, I thought she and Sisto worked as a couple and he brought a warmth and humor to the role of "Brady" that the film seriously needed.

Nikki Reed did a great job as the manipulative Evie. Evan Rachel Wood was nothing short of awesome, also, as Tracy.

I gave this film a 9 - taking the one point off for some of the grainy shots. I tend to simply prefer nice, tight, clear images.

I wasn't able to have kids...and after viewing this film, I think I'm glad.

I liked it.....(spoilers)

Warning: Spoilers
But they killed Scott off way too soon. Too bad too - he had all the best lines.

While there were a few plot inconsistencies, (WHY did they allow Dushku's character to live long enough to tie to a bed when they randomly killed everyone else first without hesitation?)I'm not sure any film of this type can be counted on to be cinematic poetry. That's not its intention.

Its intention, was to provide a few starts, a bit of gross out effect, and just plain fun. It certainly hit on those points.

All in all, I give it 8/10.

Six Feet Under (2001–2005)
Imagine my delight..

when, in S1, a new favorite show added a long time favorite actor! (that obviously being Jeremy Sisto as Brenda's brother Billy)

Why I never thought to "review" it here, I have no idea.

Anyway....obviously, I love Sisto's tortured Billy, and hope they continue to find plot devices for him.

I do think they strayed just a tad this season, with some of the arcs getting a little tiresome. Or perhaps, I was just not into what direction they took some of the characters.

But, I will be there, anxiously awaiting S4 (and the release of S2 on DVD/VHS). This series is just too good to give up on.

I found this one on the 'net today.

This is a short with a message.

To me it says that no action occurs without a reaction - somewhere.

Jeremy Sisto is good (as always) as Deke, but they under use his talent. Definitely worth watching though, for any serious Sisto fan.

A winner...

I think this is one of Chris Walken's best efforts, past or present. He was perfect in his role.

All the "guys" were great in their roles and had obviously worked into some very good chemistry with each other and Walken.

It may not be an award winner or a heavy documentary, but it's a funny thriller that will keep you guessing.

Do yourself a favor and check this one out.

Finally caught this one...

As a collector of the works of Jeremy Sisto, this one had me working to obtain it.

As usual, Sisto did not disappoint. His "Tim" was brought to life with flair, depth, and quality, especially for a guy as young as he was at the time.

An interesting plot, it left me fairly depressed and sad by the end. Not your typical "Hollywood" ending by any measure. And I may never be able to see Mortensen the same again - he brought a real essence of brutality to his character.

Good movie without that feel in the indy, but just as searching and deep as most independent films.

I don't agree

I got lucky and found this short on the net.

The sheer focus of mind that it must have taken these actors (especially Jeremy Sisto as the tortured Daniel) is amazing. It shows why, if this is what mental illness is like, that so many of these people take their own lives to end the agony.

I thought it was even more successful in the simplicity of the sets - the depressing colors made me think we saw Dr Jane and the environment as the patient was seeing them.

Definitely a must see for any fan of Jeremy Sisto. His talent shines in this one. Too bad it is, pardon the pun, so short.

Jesus (1999)

Amazing....
17 July 2003
After becoming enchanted by Jeremy Sisto in the recent TNT "Caesar" I bought this film.

Being a Christian, I have always been left flat by the way Jesus is portrayed in film and pulpit alike. For Christ to have successfully died for my sins, He had to be like me. He had to share my emotions, my temptations, and my pain as well as my happiness, joy and love of life. He had to triumph over those human weaknesses when I can not. IF it were not so, He did not complete God's plan. Sisto's portrayal did not leave me disappointed in him, OR in my Christ.

Jesus in this film is a man who loves life, loves people, and loves his God. This is not a Jesus who seems to withdraw into the knowledge that he is destined for early death, but rather embraces those for whom he will die.

The Crucifiction scene left me shaken and on my knees in praise and thanksgiving. This Jesus did not meekly or stoically have his life taken. The howls and screams of pain and rejection from his God left me in tears and weak. When crying to God asking why he had forsaken him, every muscle in Sisto's body was shaking. Truly a shattering event when you have come to see your Lord in this man's portrayal of the Christ.

When Christ says he will be with us "always" I believe him and I am thankful.

Truly a masterpiece, but without Jeremy Sisto's performance and vision, I'm not sure this film works as well. With it, it's a 10 of 10.

I'm a believer

With his performance in Caesar, Jeremy Sisto has a new fan.

He was a sexy, compassionate, yet brutal Caesar with a touch of insanity toward the end.

I wish they had made this a 6 hour series as the second half seemed rushed. There was so much more to Caesar's life. I think the audience needed to see more of what lead up to what happened on the Senate floor.

All in all though, I'm addicted to this mini-series.

Finally got the DVD

Wow. What a moving movie.

You have to feel for these guys. Growing up poor is never easy, but growing up poor and unsupervised and unloved (as Sonny was) is recipe for disaster.

I would say this is a definite "must see" but only if you are in the mood for some serious drama.
