Raising Hope (2010)
If it looks like "Earl" and it sounds like "Earl" -
- then, dude, it was probably created by the guy who did "My Name is Earl"! And "Raising Hope" was! Earl was an original and daring and I was sad to see it go. This show I had strong reservations about because I don't like child endangerment as a plot line (I refuse to see "Paranormal Activity 2" because it includes an infant threatened by demons, for instance). However, I have watched enough episodes that I got beyond the anxiety that facet produces, and I enjoy this almost as much as "Earl". Only Jimmy is an easily-manipulated man-child, which is irritating. Of course, if he wasn't, Hope probably never would have been born. Cloris Leachman agreeing to play Maw Maw is extremely bizarre, but Oscar or not, comedy has been her bread and butter and at the age of 84 it's amazing what she (and her stunt double) is willing to do for a laugh!
Perfect Couples (2010)
Vance Is Axl, New Pornographers I Knew It!
This show got a little better as it went along, which isn't saying much, but it's already being pulled from the schedule (April 2011). This show is not as bad as the stinker that followed ABC's "The Middle" on Wednesday nights, titled "Better With You" (apparently canceled also). But speaking of "The Middle", I had to go do a little research to make sure the actors playing Axl on that show and Vance on this show were not related. They look eerily alike and their comedy acting is identical. Someone should team them up to play brothers in the future, or teenage and twenty-something versions of a single character. It's weird! Also, the second I heard the theme song for this show, I knew it had to be a New Pornographers tune. I was close as A. C. Newman from the New Pornographers wrote and performed this tune. Sadly, it's the best thing about the show. What is with all these shows like this and "Traffic Light" on Fox and that rotten "Better Wtih You"? Are they all just trying to be "How I Met Your Mother"? That's setting your sights low!
