The Idol (2023)
Gritty business
I really liked this. It portrays the music industry as a gritty, no nonsense business which is a breeding ground for manipulative, greedy degenerates. Even the people that "care about you" are still living of off you. So are their concerns really rooted in goodness? The theme of this show is dark. This definitely can be connected, even if it is loose, to some famous pop stars. I had never seen Lily-Rose Depp in anything, and the Weekend did a great job. Lots of sex and nudity. But it was useful in the story. And the of perspective at the end...who's really the good person? This may not be for everyone but I enjoyed it.
Harry & Meghan (2022)
Educational
I felt compelled to write a review bc all the reviews I read are awful. I did not feel I was watching rich, privileged people complaining about being privileged. This offers a unique view into Harry's background and why the couple has decided to make the decisions they have. I don't love Meghan; Harry really humanizes her. But she has gone through some significant trauma related to trying to fit into the Royal family and the insane paparazzi that surrounds that institution. It's ironic what was going on in the country at the same time this couple got together and when the relationship became public. It begs the age old question: do you give up your right to privacy when you become famous. And adds another layer when, from Harry's perspective, he didn't pursue this. It was his birth right (curse). Looking forward to watching the rest of this series.
Candy (2022)
Great True Crime Series
This series was incredible. Especially if you're a true crime fan. Anything but boring. Jessica Biel is incredible, as is Melanie Lynskey. And Pornstache from OITNB is great!! Entertaining and enjoyable. Totally recommend.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
The Matrix lives!
I thought this was good! Was surprised after reading all the negative reviews on here. Loved NPH in this. And lots of little throw backs to the first movie. Also lots of symbolism re spiritual point of view. Left the door open for another episode. More will be revealed in the Matrix...
I, Tonya (2017)
Not rooting for her, but I understand her....
This movie is one of my favorites. I think it documents beautifully how an abused child continues to play that scenario out in their adult life. Tanya's story was definitely not your typical depiction of a person who harms another because they've been hurt. Primarily due to the fact that it was so public. This doesn't excuse her for her behavior, but it does offer explanation for why what happened did happen. Really great acting. Totally recommend!!
Excision (2012)
Bizarre and oh so good
This movie was bizarre and disturbing but really good. And as someone who actually has CF, let me say it was refreshing to see it portrayed in a somewhat realistic manner (breathing treatments, CF camp, coughing, losing friends at a young age). A person as healthy as the sister wouldn't end up on the transplant list. But hey, it's a movie. Traci Lords as the conservative mom was entertaining. And AnnaLynne McCord did an excellent job as the lead. Overall a great movie if you're looking for something original.
Genera+ion (2021)
So fun to watch
Yes this show is not real. At all. But it's so fun to watch. The characters are well-developed and have so much individuality to them. I love Martha Plimpton so discovering she in this was awesome. It's just a fun way to spend 30 minutes of my week! Who cares if it's not 100% realistic all the time.
