Most Beautiful Island (2017)
Something different
I like films like this. Gritty, a moment in time. Jumping straight into a story which at first seems to following a traditional path before holding you glued and tense throughout an unexpected final chapter. A sufficient duration - not overblown- although I would love to know more from this story and characters. New York looks real - vibrant and grainy - the way it should be. Plus the lead actress is also the writer and producer. Quite an achievement and such a refreshing film to discover amidst so many sameness's out there. Not sure how I missed it originally but glad I found it. Hopefully whatever comes next from Ana is just as good.
Message from the King (2016)
Thoroughly enjoyed this.
I kept passing this on Netflix before realising it's the same director from Calvaire - a very unique horror film. This is no horror but it is an absolutely perfect example of a revenge thriller. Beautifully shot and with excellent performances from all concerned. Sorry I waited so long to see it!
Hollywood Banker (2014)
Loved it
I really really enjoyed this. Well made, informative, industry legend contributors and above all a fascinating story about one of the good guys of Hollywood. Wish there were more like him.
The Hunt (2020)
Enjoyable
An interesting, fun satire well worth a watch. Loved Betty Gilpin in this - her character made the film for me.
