The Simpsons Movie (2007)
10 years too late
Unfortunately what could have been one of the best comedy films of all time just falls flat. I was not expecting much going in as I have not enjoyed the series for almost a decade now and I got exactly what I bargained for a pale imitation of the show that used to be the best thing on television.
Gone are the days of subtle satire and spot on spoofing of pop culture and we are left with crude jokes, sledge hammer political commentary and a very silly story.
I gave the film a chance, I stayed right to the end hoping for one redeeming feature and I did not find one. These characters are not the same ones I fell n love with all those years ago, homer is a crude b**tard unlike the lovable oaf from seasons past. Bart has lost his wit and identity and the less said about everyone else the better.
If like me you feel the simpsons isn't what it was don't bother watching the film you will only be disappointed.
The Simpsons (1989)
Long past its best!
The Simpson's in its prime was the funniest show on TV, in my opinion better than friends or south park or Seinfeld or any other comedy show before or since. however the Simpson's is no longer at its best, it has become very poor imitation of its former self. At its peak between seasons 4 and 8 it was verging on genius, episodes like 'deep space homer' and 'who shot Mr burns' were laugh a minute. These kind of episodes are unfortunately no more. The more recent episodes which, i think are steadily getting worse, have lost all the wit and subtlety of the early episodes and replaced it with painfully bad satire, regurgitation of previous jokes and more and more crazy episode set ups that seem to only function as a source of cheap jokes. in short this once great show is dying a slow death and i haven't seen a new episode i've enjoyed for seven or eight years, if your want my advice don't even bother with any episode after the 10th season.
